Cheerleaders typically do dance more like robots than dance and drill teams but they are not making that statement with their dance, it's just what they chose. It's not "robotic" it's called Precision. That's their forte apparently. The best precision team I've seen in person are from The Woodlands. And like I said, do what makes you happy.

But Pom doesn't have to have cheer girls shaking their skirts and pom to be "fun" though, perhaps these girls take pride is seeing their routine hit every motion in sync to perfection? to much practice makes everything look perfect. if it is perfect it's boring. if it's boring: people don't want to watch and the performers don't want to perform. it's no longer fun and obviously the girls weren't smiling. are they not allowed to smile or something? i didn't like it. this is just my opinion though.
In Washington, sometimes some teams will choreograph sections where they stop smiling or the other way around to sort of add variety I think or go with their music.
i really didnt think it was perfect... yes it was FANTASTIC, but there were flaws here and there. i could watch this routine ten thousand times. and you obviouslyonly watched to beginning, because they weren't supposed to smile in the beginning, they all have great facials once it reaches a certain point, they even do a close up at a certain point. i thought this was great. thats MY opinion.
1:40 and 2:20 they do smile - its kinda hard to see but they deffinetly do - besides its not that appropriate to smile the whole time considering the music
wow this is really interesting to watch. i've never seen a pom routein so robotic. it was really good, and super sharp, but i'm not sure if i would have picked that song, and i probably would have had them take off the jackets and the high knee socks. overall good job though (:

it's usually the end. some teams go to national competitions, but i believe they qualify for those at camp, and they tend to happen before or during our state competition.
sorry i blew that gasket above, it looks doubly asinine next to your levelheaded response. michiganian/mid-american pom also has a very unique aesthetic as compared to what goes on at UDA/USA nationals. maybe you guys have gotten some flak for it too?

as a spectator, i've noticed that dance teamers can make up for timing fudges by being super enthusiastic and going all out in the parts that they DO know well. if your team is already quite enthusiastic and all out, well, just go easy on yourself. if you don't know what parts you need to work on now, you sure will after the competition! just try your best.
This is tight and everything but lets be real, you are a DRILL team....I can tell. You should be wearing gloves...its just a precision routine with poms in hand.

No one can say these girls aren't sharp, but I would love to see some personality here. The choreography wasn't very entertaining. Also, I don't understand why they walked the way they did... it was hysterical!
Their personality is 'we're disciplined and not conforming to the bouncy-bouncy-fun-fun cheerleader image that society expects us to just because we're women and holding poms.'
from what i've seen in all the clashes over which region of our country has the best 'style' when it comes to HS dance/drill teams, the bottom line is this: people like and are entertained by what they're used to. believe me, if the crowd there hadn't been entertained, they would just be giving tepid applause (i go to these things). i don't like most dance pom, but when i do its because it has interesting formations and the choreography features a lot of precision/drill elements like SW. Go fig.

jesus. this was really long. and really boring. pom should be really cutesy with upbeat music. i mean, ya there's a lot of girls so the visuals were really good and formations were amazing. where are the turns and jumps? i honestly don't think i could have fun dancing this routine, but good job on 3rd place.

it's not technically pom unless they do kick line cause that's a major part of pom.

This is how pom is defined at the nationally competitive level:
"Pom poms must be used at least 80% of the routine. Important characteristics
of a pom routine include synchronization and visual effect,
clean and precise motions, strong pom technique, and incorporate dance
technical elements. Visual effect includes level changes, group work, formation
changes, the use of different color poms, etc."
No mention of kicks or needing them in the routine ANYWHERE.

i understand there's different versions of pom around the country.
where i'm at there's a privately owned business called "Mid American Pom Pon" that has it's own version of pom where you do a kickline.
i still thought that this type of pom was really cool and very visual.
