Seriously, The Dark Tower series, Insomnia, The Stand...I think it's safe to say that almost all of his stories are connected, and I spent a huge amount of time reading a lot of his books to FIND the connections, seeing how interwoven everything is when you look at the details. I can't believe that when my sister asked for Twilight, i made a fool of myself and bought the hard cover because when she read it, she didn;t even finish it because she found it so stupid. I have read some of Stephen KIng's work and as an aspiring newengland writer, i idolize him. I remember reading Twilight when it VERY first came out- before it was even huge or anything. I read it, it killed time, but I wasn't impressed by it. But, upon being pressured by a friend to read it again, I read it critically. I ended up reading that the main protagonist is a suicidal putz and her boyfriend is a controlling psychopath. The whole vampirism thing was an allegory for premarital sex, no less. Stephenie Meyer's Mormon values seeped into her writing, and it suffered for it.

Dolores Claiborne had to be one of my favorite Stephen King books turned into a movie. I would definitely all the women in the story were very strong as well. Kathy Bates betrayal of the character was fantastic too bad she didn't get a Oscar for that one like she did with Misery.

I've seen many book and movie reviews by stephen king. He knows exactly what he's talking about. He has praised many people throughout the years for their work in mystery, horror, sci-fi and fantasy. I'm reminded years ago when King directed his first (and last) film 'Maximum Overdrive' which was based on his short story, 'Trucks'. The absolute worst review of this film came from SK himself, and he has not returned to the director's chair since. He definitely knows good work from bad.

Theres a depth to the characters emotions that can make the stoy complex. Through vampires werewolves "shapeshifters" humans colliding together. Imprinting. Their past, and history that makes everything come together as to why they are the way they are. And the plot is good. And its original.

But its how you make the story that makes it original. And the page count means that there alot to tell in this book. Including history/drama/romance. Every story is original

But other than that the story is nothing original, other than the imprinting, which again has done more bad than good. Every story can be original, but not every story is good. Seriously, The Dark Tower series, Insomnia, The Stand...I think it's safe to say that almost all of his stories are connected, and I spent a huge amount of time reading a lot of his books to FIND the connections, seeing how interwoven everything is when you look at the details. I can't believe that when my sister asked for Twilight, i made a fool of myself and bought the hard cover because when she read it, she didn;t even finish it because she found it so stupid. I have read some of Stephen KIng's work and as an aspiring newengland writer, i idolize him. Hell he could say that writing is for shit and all i'll be thinking is "holly crap, stephen king hates my writing!" with a smile. I quite frankly find the series a nusince. In reference to the Columbine shootings, King had a short story, (originally posted in the earlier versions of The Bachman Books) called Rage, which he requested to be taken out of print after the incident. Now that's the sign of a great writer with social awareness.

I remember reading Twilight when it VERY first came out- before it was even huge or anything. I read it, it killed time, but I wasn't impressed by it. But, upon being pressured by a friend to read it again, I read it critically. I ended up reading that the main protagonist is a suicidal putz and her boyfriend is a controlling psychopath. The whole vampirism thing was an allegory for premarital sex, no less. Stephenie Meyer's Mormon values seeped into her writing, and it suffered for it.

I've seen many book and movie reviews by stephen king. He knows exactly what he's talking about. He has praised many people throughout the years for their work in mystery, horror, sci-fi and fantasy. I'm reminded years ago when King directed his first (and last) film 'Maximum Overdrive' which was based on his short story, 'Trucks'. The absolute worst review of this film came from SK himself, and he has not returned to the director's chair since. He definitely knows good work from bad.

Its sad that our youth is reduced to reading and admiring such poor work as Twilight, I fear for the youth of today. Even books are becoming mindless crap.

@MrRoygbiv24 There's loads you do not see because you haven't learned enough to understand them. You need a college level of literature understanding first, and then you need to expand WAY deeper than that into specific areas, like specific people throughout history. I recommend learning what the 3 great epics of all time are and then learn why they are actual epics and why today's books will not produce an epic because everything is fast "page turners" now. LoTR was the last possible epic.

And yes, Sm is truly shit, when you read adult books you will see the difference. The wording and language is on an entirely different level. I gtg, but I'll tap more into this later. You can like Twilight if you want, but to make certain claims of "complete" originality or speak of vampire lore or praise writing skill alone, you need facts and examples.
I mean there such a thing as bad art, which most ppl think there isn't, same goes with writing. There's different caliburs here.To praise her as an even b+ writer in WRITING SKILL then offer some techniques or character developments etc etc to support this claim,else its just opinion

I happen to like one of his books-to-movies, "The Green Mile", with my favourite actor, Tom Hanks.

MelinaPendulum, I really like the way how you try to explain to young people why Stephen King is a genius. "Twisted"? Because some of them don't understand his novels, because: "too hard" to understand. The "Twilight" movies is for teenagers, everyone know that. Look at them on Youtube, they are all teens. Almost every teen girls love this movies because of sexy actors etc. That's why this kind of people don't understand Stephen King's novels. They need more time, grow up and be an adult :)

Stephen King is a genius! He doesn't know what he's talking about? He's read more books than just horror. My Dad knew people who knew him like this old dude who said he never stopped reading even when he was a kid. Everyone says he's all ways reading. He even got hit by a car because he was walking across the street reading as well has having written about a hundred best sellers and you guys don't think he knows good writing? Unbelievable.

@MelinaPendulum Well for startersits a romance/love triangle/drama/history. That alone has a story to tell. And She made a total of 6 book in the series. And all of them are more than like 300 pages. Theres a depth to the characters emotions that can make the stoy complex. Through vampires werewolves "shapeshifters" humans colliding together. Imprinting. Their past, and history that makes everything come together as to why they are the way they are. And the plot is good. And its original.

@MrRoygbiv24 It's not original. The plot is similar to The Vampire Diaries books and Sookie Stackhouse Books. All those books have romance/love triangles/drama and history.
Also what does total amount of books and word count have to do with anything. A Clockwork Orange is only one book and about 200 pages?

@MelinaPendulum Every book is original in their own right. Twilight came before VD and the vamps in TB and others are completely diffrent. They hav fangs. Twilight doesn't. VD vamps burn without rings. Twilight vamps gleem. Maybe the love of a human is similar but nothing else. And yea you could hav triangles/drama/history. But its how you make the story that makes it original. And the page count means that there alot to tell in this book. Including history/drama/romance. Every story is original

@MrRoygbiv24 No the VD books came out in the 90s. The story is original in its treatment of vampire and that is debated about if it was a good or bad change. But other than that the story is nothing original, other than the imprinting, which again has done more bad than good. Every story can be original, but not every story is good. You can tell a good story with history without over a thousand pages, especially since that history is hardly brought up in-book

She made her own plot, her own characters building her own franchise. And as a writer yourself you should know about staying to you and your own thoughts on how you want your story to go. Harry Potter to me is fair writing.But I don't go around bashing JK Rowlings work. Would you like that to yours?

@MrRoygbiv24 If you had legitimate reasons not to like it or bash it I wouldn't mind. The only way for a writer to grow is to be criticized. i have been told my story needed work before and I worked at it.
SM said she didn't want to be compared to anything else, yet her story's plot is similar to two vampire books that came out before her. (VD in the 90s and TB Books in 2001)
Even if you were bashing JK Rowlings work if I saw a title that said :Why I Hate JK Rowling I wouldn't watch it.

If thats the case why isn't anyone saing TB is similar to other vampire movies/books. If your so worried about being original then only one book or movies should be about vampire. Because the books that follow will be compared to the first. So technically no ones original. Hey while were at it. Why not say love isn't original!?
