We hear mainly about Degas and pastel painting when she is largely responsible for bringing pastels as a medium to the level of painting rather than simply a sketching chalk. And it is a wonderous medium..nearly pure pigment with the smallest binder of anything. Those paintings look as vibrant today as they did 250 years ago. She was so productive and yet no one knows of her.
