This seagull is a natural preditor, and would really prefer not to make a kill like this. Humans present food to both pigeon and gull. When the gull sees a small bird, it will make a kill because it knows there are so many pigeon. Gulls see pigeons present when thesy feed, and don't want to compete with them.

Listen folks, I've been at this for about 15yrs now. I've come to see A LOT, in the avian field, in that period of time. This is not "shocking footage" to me, i've seen far worse, in what Gulls are capable of doing. They have extremely strong beaks, and are very predatory, by nature. They simply just don't feed, soley on refuse. I've seen them eat Piping Plovers whole, here on Cape Cod...!!! I have a lot of respect for Gulls, there nature's "clean-up" crew, along with; Raven's Crow's, & Vultures

I believe it is when a female gull is super hungry it will make a kill like this. It's hard to tell in this video if it is a male or female gull. When I see a female gull fly here in Seattle, I notice their wings are more sharper than a males wings. Perhaps this allows them to dive down really fast. Gulls always grab my attention because of their action and sounds they make. When gulls land on my ledge with the window closed, it sounds like brass knuckes hitting the glass.
