pretty cool video - but I'd be careful being out along the road pointing what looks like a "gun" at vehicles even though it's painted orange... Police officers are in a marked car, civilians are along the roadside pointing what appears to be handgun type of device at cars driving by - might not be the safest thing to do.
I'm not sure your trick about using the 1:64 mode then dividing by 64 works. Sure you get more numbers after the decimal, but thats just because the number doesn't divide 64 evenly. I don't know if those extra numbers after the decimal are correct, any more than the zeros after the decimal in the other mode are correct.
Cool to see the Police actually assisiting the test. Where i come from the Police would probably confiscate your radar-gun and take it home.
Just bought one of these guns with the intention of measuring the speed of radio-controlled vehicles. RC speedos aren't cheap, are a pain to install and do not account for the expansion of the tyres at speed, making them innacurate. Using this gun on 1/8th and 1/10 scale cars. How close should i be to the cars to get the best reading? Any advice? Cheers.
I have been testing one of these out on real life cars like you did here in this excellent review that convinced me to buy the gun and found it to work very well in a low speed area with cars going up to 37mph but when I tried it in an area where cars are allowed to go up to 62mph I had no luck getting any sensible readings, I got 0 or 11km/hr. In theory this gun can do speeds of up to 100mph but at least in my experience the practical limit seems to be very much lower than that.
@kiwitube2000 By the way I am in a country that use kilometers not miles when measuring speed hence the funny speed limit numbers and me giving a reading in km/hr at one point. Thanks for the review, nothing beats a real life demonstration.
he said "in conclusion the hot wheels radar gun is pretty accurate.. It was One miles per hour different than the police radar gun, but to make it more accurate you can use the hot wheels setting. "
not very smart for a science teacher! try to do some research - speed radar guns do NOT use time of flight to calculate distance. These guns use DOPPLER frequency difference between transmitted and received signals. The gun is continuous waved while operating, not pulsed.
We did science experiments about what affects the speed of different objets. I also used them to teach electromagnetic waves. The PE department will also use them.
I was looking to pick up a radar gun and thought about the Hot wheels radar gun. Your video review convinced me it was good enough for my needs. Thanks!!

you're wrong. the hot wheels velocity gun has a waveguide that uses Doppler radar.

how accurate is it if u used it for baseball?
tatsuya420 3 years ago
It is accurate as far as MPH, but it does not always detect the ball and it sometimes will not give you a reading.

This will work for baseball, but you must stand directly behind the catcher or pitcher.

@missionphoto does it give you the fastest reading?

do u think it could work well with tracking 60+ mph baseballs?

No I'm not a police officer, just a teacher, but I do stop crime everyday.
