Gay Marriage will eventually be a reality and sooner than most people think. The governments will realize that there is a financial gain by emitting marriage licenses to gay couples, and ultimately all dogs dance to the sound of "caching caching".
There are some kinks to work out, like how is this going to affect the educational system, immigration policies, military policy, health and life insurance policies, its easier to say no, so they wont have to actually work in the legislation.
People should have the same rights and privilages regardless of their sexuality and be treated the same under the law. If they don't enjoy this, then it is clearly wrong.
If it's just a piece of paper then why should it be such a problem for us to have it? That piece of paper legitimizes the relationship in the public forum. It also protects any couple to have the ability to make medical and financial decisions for one another. It's an important issue and thank you for bringing up.
@tamayn thanks Tamayn I had a big think about what I wanted to debate about and this is one that I want to talk about more in other videos so I though I should start now :o)
Marraige was a civil contract long before it ever became a religious one (it predates all of the modern religions). It should not matter what any religions have to say on the matter, since even today marraige is still a civil contract to confer property rights with a family. Atheists are not prevented from marrying, & obviously their marraige contracts have nothing to do with any religious sanctions. Gays deserve equality under the law. Churches can do as they please; they're immateral.
I like all the comments so far. Obviously, this subject touches nearly all of us quite closely. Instead of adding to the echo chamber, might I suggest the book "Same-Sex Unions in Premodern Europe" by John Boswell. Many times the people against gay marraige like to use a so-called lack of precedent as a reason to deny gay marraige, but this book details how the medieval church did in fact marry & sanctify the union of same-sex couples.
Equality for all dammit, it makes my head explode to consider that I could marry in a conservative city like Boston, but not in San Francisco where every 3rd person is gay... Oh well, one day the world will get its head out of its ass.
So, Larry King is getting his 8th divorce and Elizabeth Taylor is possibly getting married for a 9th time. Jesse James and Tiger Woods will screw anything with a hole. Yet the idea of same-sex marriage is what is going to destroy the institution of marriage? REALLY?!? Really?!?!?!?!?
@goldkear This is my thoughts as well, I can't understand what they mean by destroy the institution of marriage when so many who are Married don't set a great example for it in the first place. Great comment xoxo
The right wing scream machine over here claim us getting married infringes on the "sanctity" of marriage. I like the movement here to outlaw divorce, since of course that also infringes on the "sanctity" of marriage. I think these religious nuts should get really close to their god and put a bullet in their head, since they are a pain in the neck down here.
@throwspinecones A lot of the arguments are bull shit and they use the words sanctity and institution of marriage for a base for denying us this right when it is never what they preach in the first place. Love, being with someone and spending a whole life together is different for everyone. I still think divorce is cool thou lol, it let's you return what you no longer love :o)
I want to be treated equally. Will my dream ever come true? :( Will I ever get to marry my same-sex partner? I keep waiting.... :(
