I also want to send my condolences to the group. I saw them at Tangiers in Akron, Ohio just a few days after Gary passed..... I can only imagine how difficult it was to perform that night for them. Will be seeing them again in April at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland.
I went to the one in Laredo Tx it was cool they were siginging stuff at the end and sellin some records but this time it actually sounded like them like exactley same notes and everything!
the amount of time and practice it takes to get to this level. I'm not a music major but I thought they where awesome.
Could you please elaborate on your comment regarding George's guitar. Being an intermediate guitar player I am always willing to pick up any additional info. Thanks.
Many thanks to the kind words everyone! I apologize for being unable to perform these songs for you on the correct guitar, but it's simply too expensice and cumbersome to travel with that many guitars, especially when flying. Not enough crunch? My sounds are not my own, but are developed by another band member. And Terry hits the drums harder thatn any "Ringo" I've worked with...and I've worked with ten that I can remember. Maybe it just doesn't translate to video?
I've seen these guys many times, and I will be seeing them again Oct. 23rd at Severence Hall in Cleveland - they are fantastic! I do agree with the comments about George's guitar. This group doesn't really deviate from the Beatles touring years as far as the songs they sing, but that's no excuse for them not to carry a couple extra guitars for the heavier sounds from Revolver and Rubber Soul. Paperback Writer/Rain NEEDS that Gibson SG crunch. Or at very minimum an overdrive pedal.
@1olrocker -It was actually Paul playing his Epiphone Casino. P90 crunch! When Tom played in our little band (for the 8 years between 1964 stints) we used a Vox Valvetronix amp with a preset for Paperback and Taxman... but Tom HATED it! He's a naturalist! He's even playing through a Vox tonelab now... but only uses the clean channel. That's just tommy!
Totally wrong instrumentation for these two number. The Country Gent and 325 don't do it for these two songs. A crunchier tone is needed. I agree that some overdrive is in order. There should also be some fuzz. I believe the Beatles used a Tonebender fuzz on both numbers.
i think they do the accent for them a little too strong....when The Beatles sing it you can barely hear the accent, but when 1964 says "writer" and "job" you can hear the accent. these guys are really good though.
Gary Grimes, who plays Paul, is naturally right-handed and actually taught himself to play bass left-handed some years back. Not easy to do. These guys are great to see live, especially in an older hall. They really capture the early-period Beatles. Though it's a shame what they did to their original drummer. Ah well. It's the music biz.
I'm fixing to see the guys this weekend on Saturday in my town. Hopefully, I will get to go to sound check. I went last year to sound check and it was fun and something different.
The Beatles never performed "Rain" live. Just saw 1964 The Tribute tonight at Meadowbrook and it was another amazing show and nice to hear a few different songs like "Things We Said Today" and "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party".
This one is done extremely well considering it's one of the more difficult ones. At the Pgh show, I was amazed for 1, that Paperback Writer and Rain was played back to back but the thing that impressed me most, was the backwards ending in Rain. Does anyone know if the Beatles did that live?
Yep. The real Beatles never played Rain live. Their shows even up to their very last one at Candlestick Park were usually no longer than a half hour - maybe 45 minutes tops. Each tour they only performed their most current songs. So, their first '64 tour they played stuff like I Saw Her Standing There and Please Please Me, but in '66 never did, instead playing stuff from Revolver and Rubber Soul.
Saw them tonight but they didn't play this....my fave Beatles song :(

One of the best Beatles tribute bands I've heard. I would like to see "George" using the Rickenbacker 360/12 on a coupld of the songs.

Why is "ringo" playing so softly? It may be the recording, but he should be beating the shit outta that snare.

The dude playing George should change guitars and use an overdrive for these songs. A hollowbodied Gretsch just cut the heavier stuff.

ya john and george should pick up some epi. casinos for this and the later songs they preform

the Epi Casino's would do the job but they aren't reliable instruments for extended use

Great version of Rain, actually both were pretty damn good but Rain has a special place in my heart. I'll have to check these guys out.

Worth the price of admission ..... sound is great and even they don't grow hair and beards ..... enough "Hits" to go around in the early years ......

They never played Rain live. That was right as they made the transition from a performing act to a studio band.
