@TheLTXCamaro He's right, auto's are almost exclusively faster than manual TRANSMISSIONS. This only means that the transmission is faster, not the car. If the 6L80 had been coupled to the LS3 instead of the L99 we all would've bought autos, because the 0-60 and 1/4 times would've been noticeably faster.

@Ar3YouGam3 there is no such thing as a 5.0 shelby. the 5.0 is simply the GT version of the 2011+ mustangs, just like a SS for camaro. And GT is usually less money than a SS.. depending on the packages of course.. the Shelby mustangs are supercharged 5.4l v8's. Until 2013 that is... Shelby is stepping up to supercharged 5.8l v8 supposedly rated at 650 hp. That vs the Zl1 should be THE race of 2013! can't wait!

@cozzey05 Perhaps that is because normal autos are inherently slower than normal manuals...plus an auto SS utilizes a less powerful engine than a manual SS, which is a pretty stupid move on GM's part.

So the 7.41 @ nurburgring should get even faster if they make it but 7.41 is less then a second slower then 911 Turbo s.

The mustang has better gears for a launch even the transmissions 1st gear is shorter, it has a smaller rim size, it is 250lbs lighter which equates to about a 25hp loss.

If u are drag racing I don't think it's a mater of mpg but the best is a automatic with a manual shifter kit best of both worlds had one in my 87 Monte Carlo ss best car ever had
@Trouble44698 You go to the drag strip the fastest cars are using automatics a person can not shift as fast as an automatic. And I was referring to stock manual vs stock automatic. Manual is still more fun but its not faster at shifting. 6 speed being faster at your local track may be due to the rpm's they are shifting at. And when you do a little research youll see autos are faster and now have better gas mileage.

@Texarmageddon On the old setups yes. The new auto trans is faster then the 6 speed when it comes to shifting. Granted its not by a whole lot, but the new auto still beats the 6 speed in terms of how fast it shifts.
@Blue24U It's consistency that you are seeing. Autos do shift better yes... but they are going to miss their powerbands in certain gears... just have to find that certain person.... IN any case... autos should be banned for people under 50.
@Texarmageddon An auto properly setup with a good shift kit that takes into account the difference in gears and their power bands can do just as well if not better then a 6 speed. I was refering to stock auto vs stock stick though. And Ford themselves have said their NEW automatic 6 speed shifts faster then a good driver with a stick. And due to the 6th gear in the new autos its better on fuel consumption as well.
@Blue24U I'd have to drive one of these or at least tear one apart....or better yet.. getter a better concept of the pcm.... mind boggling how the computer can differentiate between i just want to pass a car... from I'm racing. Has always shifted right before where i wanted.

@debarvj Did you consider that both cars have many differences? 2011 Mustang 412hp.2011 Camaro 426hp. Both cars reach 60mph in 4.8 seconds and 110mph in 13 seconds. Camaro has 1.2 liters more displacement. Better gears in the Camaro, better 1-4 shift in the Mustang, better final drive gear in the Mustang. Mustang also wins on fuel economy. Camaro's irs is grippier then the solid rear axle on the Mustang. Standard breaks are better on Camaro. Mustang upgraded breaks are better then both.
@Blue24U Mustang is 0-60 in 4.4 seconds and 12.7 1/4 @ 111mph mile bone stock, camode 0-60 is 4.8 sec, 13.1 1/4 at 106mph. Also the mustangs figure eight numbers and lateral g's are better than the camodes. Look up the numbers even motortrend confirmed it an motortrend tends to side with chevy's more than any other brand.
@amfmopar I dont recall which site I pulled those numbers off of, I prefer a Mustang myself. They look better, they sound better and dollar for dollar they're cheaper and have a wider after market for upgrading. I think the Camaro could have been a decent car but they didnt try hard enough with the look of the car. Mustang's look is pretty close, and Challenger has hit the nail on the head. Though Challenger is in a different size class.
@Blue24U Yea the Challenger has the best look, my intent was to buy a SRT8 Challenger back in 2009 but when It came down to the horsepower and all the numbers including price, I picked up a 2008 GT500 for under $40k. The hp to dollar ratio is not in favor of the challenger. Another thing Chevy and Dodge need to look at is the name. You dont get Carrol Shelby name on either one of those. I know it might take 20 years for it to be worth money, but when it is that time it will be a big number.
@amfmopar I say you cant find a cooler sounding engine then Fords modular V8's. The newest GT500 looks absolutely perfect. Even the 2008 was an amazing design when it launched.I guess Chevy people can always get the Lingenfelter and Mopar will always have Hennesey. Though I dont think those names are nearly as synonymo

@DJP444 yeah well I guess we have a right to say wait for the zl1 because when the ss came out and the stang still had the boat anchor 4.6 and got smoked by the ss all the Ford guys cried. So motor trend raced the gt 500 vs ss and the ss lost by a tenth. The camaro is too heavy, but they have a concept zl1 with the 1le option that sheds a lot of weight. So the 7.41 @ nurburgring should get even faster if they make it but 7.41 is less then a second slower then 911 Turbo s.

I own a '94 lincoln mark VIII, 4.10 gears, full exhaust system with headers( straight pipes), fuel pressure regulator and a cold air intake ( that I bought on e bay for 60 dlls).. I paid 2500 for the car with chrome 17" rims and 80k miles, great shape..(it was a stealing). and my car kick both of these cars ass any day..!!! and I spent 4 grand.

@Trouble44698 You go to the drag strip the fastest cars are using automatics a person can not shift as fast as an automatic. And I was referring to stock manual vs stock automatic. Manual is still more fun but its not faster at shifting. 6 speed being faster at your local track may be due to the rpm's they are shifting at. And when you do a little research youll see autos are faster and now have better gas mileage.

@Texarmageddon On the old setups yes. The new auto trans is faster then the 6 speed when it comes to shifting. Granted its not by a whole lot, but the new auto still beats the 6 speed in terms of how fast it shifts.

@Texarmageddon An auto properly setup with a good shift kit that takes into account the difference in gears and their power bands can do just as well if not better then a 6 speed. I was refering to stock auto vs stock stick though. And Ford themselves have said their NEW automatic 6 speed shifts faster then a good driver with a stick. And due to the 6th gear in the new autos its better on fuel consumption as well.

Its 2011, do you really think they would down grade? Get with the program, chevy will have a new line soon enough, thus leaving mopar in the dust as usual. @debarvj Did you consider that both cars have many differences? 2011 Mustang 412hp.2011 Camaro 426hp. Both cars reach 60mph in 4.8 seconds and 110mph in 13 seconds. Camaro has 1.2 liters more displacement. Better gears in the Camaro, better 1-4 shift in the Mustang, better final drive gear in the Mustang. Mustang also wins on fuel economy. Camaro's irs is grippier then the solid rear axle on the Mustang. Standard breaks are better on Camaro. Mustang upgraded breaks are better then both.

@Blue24U Mustang is 0-60 in 4.4 seconds and 12.7 1/4 @ 111mph mile bone stock, camode 0-60 is 4.8 sec, 13.1 1/4 at 106mph. Also the mustangs figure eight numbers and lateral g's are better than the camodes. Look up the numbers even motortrend confirmed it an motortrend tends to side with chevy's more than any other brand.

They look better, they sound better and dollar for dollar they're cheaper and have a wider after market for upgrading. I think the Camaro could have been a decent car but they didnt try hard enough with the look of the car. Mustang's look is pretty close, and Challenger has hit the nail on the head. Though Challenger is in a different size class.

@Blue24U Yea the Challenger has the best look, my intent was to buy a SRT8 Challenger back in 2009 but when It came down to the horsepower and all the numbers including price, I picked up a 2008 GT500 for under $40k. The hp to dollar ratio is not in favor of the challenger. Another thing Chevy and Dodge need to look at is the name. You dont get Carrol Shelby name on either one of those. I know it might take 20 years for it to be worth money, but when it is that time it will be a big number.

Even the 2008 was an amazing design when it launched.I guess Chevy people can always get the Lingenfelter and Mopar will always have Hennesey. Though I dont think those names are nearly as synonymo
