Witches Castle! Oh man. I practically came of age on that very spot. Had my first mushroom trip there. Man, the stories I could tell of that place. Me and that building got history, man.
The Witch's Castle was a Bathroom and storage building built when they were trying to build a Bridge up there. The Castle itself is not haunted but that area itself has some serious Paranormal Activity.I have been there in the dead of night and there is a presence there that is not friendly. It was not bad at first but as I stayed there and sat in the log I felt pressure and malevolence and had to leave.I have pictures of some Orbs in the area.
Maybe this would be a good place for Halloween parties. I have hiked past this place many times when I lived at Portland. I never experience anything like this here. It is located near the junction of Wildwood Trail and Lower Macleay Trail.
@wa4lrm It could be. I had some great parties there 20 yrs ago. It does get super spooky at night. Be careful though, it's a bit of a walk down the trail and if you need the police or emergency services so keep that in mind. Leaving the park, I like going taking the upper left trail (when you stand at the castle and face the creek) that leads to a field. You can easily get onto Thurman via some back streets that way.
We're not out to debunk the ghosts, legends and myths, but just report them, sometimes with a little humor. :)
We'll be adding stories on the Grand Lodge, Shanghai Tunnels that was filmed at midnight on Halloween, Several Graveyards and haunted areas around Portland, A haunted insane Asylum and many more. Stay tuned and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE!

Where do any of you get your "facts". Ive been there many times. I don't think it's a witch house but I don't see anything that would make a bathroom in the middle of the woods.
@RotorDemon All up around old parts of Portland and up and down the Columbia River there are old stone public toilets and camp sites. It's just part of the coolness of Oregon. Trust me, this is not haunted and not a witches house. :)
ya i live in portland and been there a hundred times this guys is soooooo wrong. there is no ghost or witches and this place was actually an old restroom lmao get ur facts right!
this was only a bathroom, it was closed down after the colombus day storm. the creek that it's on is Baltch creek, who was the first man to be tried and executed in the state of Oregon
there was never a hanging ther and nobody lived there it was a bathroom in the 1930 and it flooded so they juss took off the roof and people started making up stories about it
This place used to be a public restroom that teenagers now use as a place to get drunk/high. It's not exactly as "mysterious" as some people like to think it is. It IS rather pretty though, with all the trees around it and the river nearby and the moss growing over it... regardless of it's, erm, past use.
i love these stories, whats sad is they are true, dont mock the ghosts,
Clifton Hall Manor Nottingham, crew film footage for scary dance track, only to find ghost footage, and an entity that has followed crew members home, dj poverello poltergeist........real hauntings
"i liv in that city. witch road is it on?" Witch's Castle is in Forest Park, Portland OR. Big place for drunken teenage parties. Take what's said in this video with a pinch of salt.
Guess what?! I'm pretty sure it is a bathroom, because I got drunk there once and peed. Several times! Including one time in my pants! Guess what?! I'm an alcoholic!
I'm just kidding. I just wanted to write something funny...but what I wrote wasn't very funny. Sorry. I'm lame. I hate myself. Sorry.
Was a hitching post in 19th Century before it became a rest area in 30s. There are two distinctly different periods of construction--poured concrete behind a wood mould and original stone. Its what was sealed in the basement that causes the hauntings. In 60s-70s a popular spot for HS/college kids to play black magic. In 1967 some HS seniors from (closed) conjured more than they were ready for, using the Necronomicon. Go there today and find lots of melted wax. Still an evil shrine. Woooooo
um as ive said before, the stone work was done in the 30's you want to believe this so much that you are making up a mythois for it. the stone work was common for public works projects at the time, also there is no basement for that building the only thing underneath that are some rotten pipes, it is not nor ever has been a hitching post, when it was built people were driving cars. jesus h christ people its just a toilet! And its stupid teenagers that perpetuate this bullshit mythos!
Also If you think this is ancient then i guess the multonomah falls lodge is ancient or timberline is ancient or the vista house is ancient because they are made of stones and logs... unless you have a degree in local history or architecture of the 1930's you cant really talk :)
@TatooVampire Wrong. It was an old public toilet. The damage was done to it during The Columbus Day Storm in 1962. If you go east of Portland along the Columbia river you will see lots of things made out of that same stone. If you go to Eagle Creek Park up there you will find other public toilets just like this building but they are still in good shape. People are so gullible.
I have no clue why people mistake this place for being older than it is and haunted maybe its just because its creepy looking so people feel the need to attach a mythos about it.. god I hate tourists....
Hey there!! Guess what? not a tourist actually lives in Oregon and has watched the documentary on the place and the land. And besides that it actually says that as you enter the park that the dude was hung there.. It is also located in Washington park.
Um guess what! your'e wrong! guess what! im an architecture major! guess what! I did research into the site! guess what! it was built in the 1930's as a BATHROOM! guess what! it was destroyed in the columbus day storm! Guess what! no europeans lived anywhere near the site during the witch trials! guess what! it was constructed in the neo gothic style which was popular for public works projects in the 1930's by FDR like..guess what! the Yaquina bridge in Newport! guess what your'e stupid!
it was in service for about 30 years until the columbus day storm destroyed most of it. It looks old because that was the style that the public works projects had you can go to the old gorge highway and see the same architecture from the 30's... this is the least haunted spot on earth I hike here almost everyday from the autobahn society house up the canyon.
Um no this is tourist bullshit.. let me fill you in on this structure... This is a public RESTROOM.. yes it is not a castle it has no significance it was not the site of the first hanging it was commissioned in the 1930's as a rest stop for the new Forest Park.
yes it was an outhouse for an old trading post...and if you knew your history about it like you fake to act you would know that Danford Balch, the original owner of the land in the Macleay Park area, was the first man legally hanged in Oregon. He shot his son in law for eloping with his young daughter without his consent don't believe me? there is some sort of monument that even states so before you enter
The monument stated that the building was a bathroom, and it was destroyed in the columbus day storm, the only trading post was up on cornell Rd on the top of the canyon where the autobahn society building and bird sanctuary are today, it was a collection of small farms in the late 19th century. the so called "witches castle" is a BATHROOM... im so sorry to invoke the dreaded cognitive dissonance but its the truth.
