  • Great accent...Good information especially explaining sampling rate and memory depth. The guy is always pushing certain brands. I had a RIGOL and it was a mess & I returned it. Supposedly it was missing the latest firmware update but I don't need the grief. Plus it was more expensive than other Chinese brands. I have an ATTEN and HANTEK & have found both to be terrific and they were less cost than the RIGOL I returned.

  • @JRogue250 if he was biased he wouldn't point out the flaws in these things. you really need to watch more of his videos to realize that a. he knows what he's talking about and b. if something is crap he will say it's crap and I really doubt that a paid biased advertiser would point out the fact you can buy the cheaper one and hack it to get the more expensive one for no extra cost.

  • What is your opinion on the Tektronix 2246?

    Thanks.

  • @jewishcrimenetwork An excellent basic readout analog scope.

  • @EEVblog Hi. thanks for the answer. The question is would you buy a new rigol DS1052E or a 2nd hnad Tektronix 2246? Thanks.

  • @jewishcrimenetwork They are different beasts. The Rigol is a more versatile instrument for general use, as it offers (poor compared to the 2246) analog performance, and single shot digital sampling the 2246 doesn't have.

  • @EEVblog Thanks. I will buy the rigol.

  • Hi dave i want to know is it really necessary to spend 10,000 U.S.A dollars on a oscilloscope for a regular person in computer engineering. Also, I'm still in High School and i'm learning small things about of computer engineering. So, do you think an oscilloscope is necessary for me right now?

  • @carnews333 Yes, you need an oscilloscope if you are into electronics. No, you don't need to spend $10,000. A $350 Rigol will do you just fine. $50 ebay 20MHz dual channel analog will also do you just fine.

  • or instead of worring about sampling rate, just buy an analog scope.

  • @thewii552 lol

  • Oh come on man. "Cheap scopes like Tektronix"? They cost 10 times more because they are 10x better. Rigol is a knock off they ripped from the contract work they do for Agilent. Perhaps the Rigol is not that bad for the price and you're trying to convey that message. But it's coming across as a biased Rigol infomercial. You then post: "There is an ad on my eevblog dot com website for the Rigol from an Australian supplier, only $399. Tell'em I sent you.". No biased, eh?

  • @JRoque250 Yes, I am completely unbiased, and am famous for it in fact. I shot this video WAY before I got supplier ads on my website.

  • i can has your brain plox?

  • You should do a more in-depth tutorial about oscilloscopes in general. Now I know about trigger hold-off but what else? Afrotechmods has a tutorial but it's very basic and I have figured all of that out already.

  • I THINK DAVE HAS SOME AFFILIATES WITH FLUKE and RIGOL and use his reputation for cheap marketing..

Too shame dave. We always respect unbiased reviews from you.

  • @gotaimabara Have you even seen my video that totally slag off these companies (and others) ?? You are massively wrong.

  • I found that DAVE is so biased on certain brands. When it comes to Multimeter he rejects cheap china multimeters. but when it comes to oscilloscope HE FINDS RIGOL IS BETTER THAN TEKTRONIX.

    Dats bullshit..

@ 7.02 Cheap TEKTRONIX..........DAMN TEKTRONIX AINT NOOO CHEAP THEY ARE STANDARD OSCILLOSCOPES OF LOTS OF GOVERNMENT FACILITIES.

  • @gotaimabara You're forgetting that RIGOL makes some of the oscilloscopes for Agilent, whereas most of these no-name Chinese multimeters are just that: cheap no-name Chinese multimeters. If we could verify that some brand of Chinese multimeter were equivalent to a high-quality brand, then by all means we would go for it.

  • @gotaimabara The oscilloscope equivalent to a cheap chinese meter is this: 2 Channel PC Computer Digital mini USB Oscilloscop Operating systems used: W2K, XP ,Windows 7(32bit) Signal input: BMC connection with universal oscillograph probe Max sampling: 8kHz x 1/ (4kHz x 2) Measurable frequency: 0Hz -----3kHz DIV array: horizontal 16DIV x vertical 10DIV Max voltage: 0---5V Error of voltage measurement: ±30mV Adjustable range of time domain: 10 mS/DIV----10800 S/DIV Go search Ebay for it.
  • @gotaimabara You are taking my comment out of context. I was talking about the small sample memory in the lowest cost "cheap" Tektronix scopes. I did not mean "cheap" as in quality.

Yes, the Rigol is better value for money than the equivalent Tektronix scope for most beginners.

  • I paused the video on the close up of the Rigol, is that model number on there DS1052E ?. I am looking into buying an Oscilloscope really soon EEVblog, where could i get one of those in Melbourne (presuming that is where you are from).

Thank you for such a great channel also, you are so damn informative and it is greatly appreciated :)

  • @blade004 There is an ad on my eevblog dot com website for the Rigol from an Australian supplier, only $399. Tell'em I sent you.

  • HI. Does anybody here have any experiences or opinions on the ATTEN ADS1102 models which are sold on eBay? The prices are attractive, but I'm worried about the quality. Thanks.

  • 'Won' an HP54201A digitizing scope for $83 to my door on ebay. Specs say- 'Dual 200 mega sample/ second allowing 50MHz single shot wave form capture.'

I am repairing electronic (musical) organs for recirculation into the community. With the advent of Craigslist the market is flooding with low dollar organs that were once high dollar. Most are analog transistor oscillator card ( personal favorite ala' Ray Manzarek), opamp based. Save for tone wheel Hammonds, tubes are rare. Is this scope OK?

  • this is more a lecture than a tutorial, I thought it was about how to use a scope; but very good stuff nonetheless, thanks!

  • hey i was looking at upgrading from my old analog scope what would be a good one

i seen this would this even work?

  • What do you think about the ATTEN ADS1062?

  • is rigol the same as uni-T?

  • Hi David, I've following all your blogs and I really enjoy it! I have one suggestion for you, it would be possible if you post step by step how to use an oscilloscope? For beginners like me!

I finally bought the Hantek DSO 1060 and hope works for small electronic projects.

    Regards,

    Gustavo

  • You have so much testing equipment--it must total hundreds of thousands of dollars! How did you afford so many? Any suggestions for us who would love to get our hands on many of the ones you own for experimenting and fun, but have very limited funds?

  • Nothing like that, anyone can set up a excellent lab on under $1000.

  • @EEVblog in US only =T

  • @EEVblog not in Brazil =T

  • I am going to buy the Rigol DS1052E based on YOUR recommendation! Good show mate!
