  • CUANDO LARGUEN EL ESCUPITAJO, DEL PUBLICO NO SE SALVA NADIE!!!!!

  • I trained several months in Shôdôkan dôjô. Really happy to see most of the sensei who taaught to me.

About the name "shôdôkan" 尚道館 尚 is the okinawan Shô dynasty's kanji, 道 "dô" is the "way" and 館 is the"place". So the name means "the place of the way of Shô" or in other words "the place of Okinawa".

  • This is Sanchin Tencho. Traditionally Speaking, Sanchin and Tencho are Preformed separately from each other. Sanchin is preformed at the beginning of each class after warm up to bring in energy from the universe, like wise, tencho is at the end of the class to give that energy back to use it next class when ever that may be.

  • What is the purpose of this exercise? As someone who doesn't know anything about this it made me laugh a few times and ask what the hell the noises are all about.

  • unpleasantcitizen, you're right to the point(though your point might be unpleasant to some, hahaha). In traditional Karate there are some Kata meant to improve breathing and raw physical strenght by slowly contracting all muscles involved in a technique and at the same time breathing in and out in a proper sequence. At some point in time some retarded losers came along who started "teaching" that your breathing "must be heard" to be proper, and hence these sick noises :(

  • Now that you say this I presume maybe teachers enforced the noises so the they would know they are doing the breathing.

  • Unpleasant...

In actual self practice, your breath is not loud as in the video. This is done so your Teacher can hear if you are breathing in the correct patterns.

In demonstrations, I guess it adds to the sensationalism.

  • why is it I see this kata performed so many different ways?

  • well its cause this isnt tensho, this is Kata Sanchin Tensho, plus it also depends on the Sensei, if he or she decides to modify it, thats how the students will learn.

  • Kata Sanchin Tensho (ST) doesn't exist. ST is only pure bullshit created by WKF for tournaments, not by the masters.

  • lol agree, theres only tensho and sanchin, not two comebined unless u wanna save time. hate it when people modify things, its like saying fuck u funokoshi, ur wrong. funokoshi and kanazawa r the only true masters

  • Tensho IS a Sanchin Kata. So you can't really combine it with Sanchin.

  • There is only ONE Tensho. The term "Sanchin Tensho" is a western creation. Please note that I said "TERM".

  • Excellent. I see Ishiki sensei, Gushiken sensei, Gushi sensei and Oshiro sensei. Great teachers.

School: Shodokan Goju ryu, Okinawa. Lineage from Higa Seiko. Current Headmaster is Choyu Kyuna sensei (student of Higa Seikichi). Charakteristic signs for this school are differencies in some kata (kururunfa, sanseru, suparinpei)

  • shodokan? not shotokan?

  • Shodo can be Japanese calligraphy. Kan is likely "house of". Way of respect would be "rei do".

  • Yep, it was. What does kanji for shodokan mean?

  • shodokan in kanji 昭道館 it's a branch of aikido places alot of emphasis on sporting side

  • Apparently not, sir. The commentator plainly says it is a Goju organization.

  • Fatdoi003 -

This Shodokan is a Branch of Okinawan Goju Ryu from the Seiko Higa Lineage. He was a fellow student of Miyagi Sensei under Higaonna Kanryo and became student of Miyagi Sensei when Higaonna, their Sensei, passed on. I'm not sure if the Kanji is the same... probably not.
