  • This is the BEST thing to come out of Canada besides the Winnipeg full solar eclipse, and mildly William Shatner.

  • you know, ther are only 2 live albums that i prefer, i usually don't care for live unless at concert..this is one of them..every song on exit staqe left is awesome..the other pink floyd the wall....awesome as well...but i wish someone could tell me what geddy lee says to alex in this video that make alex laugh when they were playing...and i love the way alex gives geddy the eye to see if he is going to follow the song and change when he does,,,i fucking love this video!!!

  • An absolutely amazing live performance. No drop-off from the studio version which is why Rush is so great IMO.

  • i saw this tour.....It was awesome....

  • bands today suk

  • @weekofhorror some of them that is...

  • BAD AS$ $HIT boy.. woo yee

  • Has to be one of the top 3 BEST ALL TIME 3 man bands ...

  • @Skybluheaven Who the hell is ahead?!?

  • @priamyvate True...True...NO ONE...I just didnt want to come off all shitty...But i would put them up against anyone...

  • The first few seconds sounded like Alan Parsons Project, are there any cross over people in these two groups?

  • If you can make love to a guitar, Lexst is John Holmes

  • i wish geddy still played his Rick. How awesome would that be if he went back to playing it?!

  • Hello! You there! You're missing the fantastic video clip because you look at the commentaries! Scroll up and enjoy one of Rush's best songs performed live :)

  • @1994HAKON Haha. Had to hit replay a few times so I could watch the awesomeness and read some of the comments :)

  • "To seek the sacred river Ralph ... "

  • Any time anyone ever ever gives crap to a Canadian because of Justin Beiber, they can just show them this

  • rush rocks!!! who cares about the rest of the fools out there think..Its their loss the way i see it

  • "To be eligible for induction as an artist (as a performer, composer, or musician) into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the artist must have released a record, in the generally accepted sense of that phrase, at least 25 years prior to the year of induction; and have demonstrated unquestionable musical excellence" That is quoted directly from the rock and roll hall of fame page. So now let the people choose if The Rock and Roll Hall of fame is worthy to have Rush.

  • @shed412 It infuriates me so much that fuckin' MADONNA is in the RnRHoF but Rush ISN'T.

  • The only crime here is that the dreamy little sequence between The Trees and Xanadu is completely neutered away.

  • Scientology.

  • love them! 11 concerts, never a bad one. three of the nices guys makin the greatest music. cant wait for the new album in 2012.

  • Indeed, aside from this being the greatest band in history, this is the most fantastic song of all time.

  • Why they are not yet in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is baffling, one of the finest art rock bands ever, I challenge any so called modern musician to produce stuff of this caliber especially this number. I was fortunate to see them in the early 90's, unforgettable show.

  • @fairylake50

Rush is my favorite band of all time, but theres Tons of Musicians today producing really amazing music.

  • @turydragon people are still watching this after 30 years, do you think there is an artist out right now that people will be listening to 30 years from now?

  • @dec0y8 yeah probably...and if there isn't it's b/c the game has changed, the world moves much faster and a 10 yr career now is worth a 20 yr career in the time this video was being made, maybe longer...stop with the good old days bullshit that's ur point. the 1960's 70's and 80's had a lot of GARBAGE for every Rush...a LOT

  • @sixsixxsixxxx go back an listen to your coldplay grasshopper

  • @dec0y8

Theres Tons of memorable Artists coming out, Producing Works that Go along With Yes' "Close to the edge" and Rush's "Hemispheres" and so. Its good to reminisce and recognize the good stuff from the past but its retarded not to acknowledge the good stuff we have today, which is mostly inspired by past bands.

  • @turydragon Nothing today even scratches the surface of yesteryear. Its was done and can never be matched. Just like the days of mozart, beethoven ect... Rush has hit the ceiling, can't get higher then that.

  • @blake30615

I was only comparing them not saying its the same. Theres a lot of great talent today as there was before. Even Rush has recognized it many times. Its part of being a musician.

  • @turydragon agreed...but very little of it is popular...that's the difference...

  • @Toolshed76

Popular or not, Theres a lot of talent today as there was yesterday. The media and music industry are constantly changing and they don't focus on it. Its up to people to go to local shows, word of mouth etc. They're making a living so its all good.

  • best trio ever! PERIOD!

  • OMFG!

  • total pure brilliance, absolute genius.

  • Yes, I'd like a double, double please.

  • This song takes you on such a journey. I love it!

  • 30 UFO fans.

  • double neck madness!

  • Geddy playing the six string,,kool!

  • They are the best band in the world... This is my first album either...

  • @aviana007 ...

  • agreed jcast, my all time favourite Rush recording, this live version is quality!

  • BEST. SONG. EVER. nuff said

  • @jcast112358 Actually all Rush songs are the best songs ever

  • Impressive from start to finish. Prodigious skills.

  • Magnificent. Pure Awesomeness. Man it doesn't get any better than Rush.

  • The first Rush album i bought. My parents hated it and i loved it

  • 3 guys who could move next door to you and you could be certain that no squad cars, ambulances or pushers would invade your neighborhood. most great bands have at least a couple of certified wasted egomaniacs involved. these guys are common schmoes who happen to be God-gifted musically.

  • and once again there seem to be around 30 people who need a high colonic. i recommend ice water.

  • 30 plus years after first hearing this i still close my eyes and feel the power when this song plays.i listen to a lot of music on youtube but my computer seems to always wanna head back to this live performance, which i consider one of the greatest ever captured by any band.

  • @ThePass1967 I disagree no one could ever beat Lynyrd Skynyrd or even come close their music will live on forever. R.I.P. Ronnie, Steve & Cassie

  • <3

  • This is the greatest song that has ever been made by mankind!

  • The kings of any music!

  • never heard of a double neck base.

  • @mrgamerman59 its a bass and guitar and Rickenbacker is famous for it and also inventing the humbucker

  • @JorgeFuller wat about QUEEN

  • @dman3145 they're ok freddie mercury's fantastic but i got over my phase with them i've been die hard zeppelin for 4+ years

  • @ThePass1967 I Didnt get one... But i get over it Likezzzzz ;)

  • The next time any country sends out a Voyager type spacecraft into deep space they must be sure to include this recording,on the crrent form of a "golden record" like the first two Voyagers have. This way any et life who finds it will be able to hear some of the very best of what humankind has been able to achieve.

  • Dee maissss !!!! amooo !!!

  • SENSATIONAL!!!!!!!!....just mind-blowing rendition.....

  • three of the nicest guys in rock not to mention talented, awesome, great shall i go on they are the most interesting song writers and performers i have ever heard or have ever seen and i have seen alot of bands these guys are the real deal!!!!

  • (God)dy =Lee Amazing. I wish I had seen RUSH!!!

  • (God)dy Lee

  • Rolling Stone Magazine just named their top 100 guitarists of all time and named Alex Lifeson at #98.

Bullshit. That rag is for cocksuckers.

  • @SenorSpode Kurt Cobain and Jack White made the top ten!! David Gilmour was only 86th!! But he's the guitarist Magazine's no.1, so take the RS list with a pinch of the proverbial!

  • @SenorSpode he wasn't even on it last time. douchebags

  • @SenorSpode and yet the edge is ranked number 38

how did he get that high and lifeson so low?

  • @JunkAndMusic Considering that Rolling Stone Magazine controls who does and does not get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and overlooks lifetime groups like Rush and yet accept one-hit-wonders like Toni Basil, would we expect any objectivity from them? It's all about the dollah...

  • @SenorSpode One hit wonders like Toni Basil. It's clearly not about the money. Rush has a bajillion hits and have sold many many records. It's shitting on "intellectual" music is what it is. Not to mention shitting on Canada because we may have the most technical proficient rock band of the 70s

  • @eleventhsun well yeah thats all well and good about the selling things but that doesn't make them a good band their integrity makes them a good band

  • @SenorSpode I know. It's only an opinion though and opinions dont mean shit!!! The only opinion that should matter is your own... And that's a FACT ...

  • @SenorSpode should be #1

  • @SenorSpode should be #1

  • @SenorSpode Rolling stone is a magazine for faggy posers

  • 30 people must be Brittany Spears fans.

  • Peart is to the drums as Tom Hanks is to acting

  • Hi Adam. Its true. Some of the most intense moments of my life were at Rush concerts and maybe it's just me, but this song especially rocks me. I never missed a Rush concert between 1977 and 1984 and they came every year. I would spend an entire school year waiting to see Rush play Xanadu. Imagine how great it was to be there in that moment. One of the best bands playing one of their best songs in maybe the best recorded tour ever. I sometimes hitchhiked for days to see them play in Vancouver.

  • I saw this live maybe 4 times. This was probably the best one. I was in the 4th row at Vancouver coloseum 1981. You may worship me.

  • Everytime I see Rush I can't speak for a week afterwards.

  • Besides the fact that Rush are excellent musicians, they are, on top of this, excellent people.May distant future generation excavate Rush and believe that our civilization was worthy.

  • awsome

  • @ThePass1967

    pink floyd

    black sabbath

    Queen

    U2

  • BTW,"nockuout1," the CORRECT SPELLING of the first word in your user ID name is "Knock" Like in "Knock" out.. or "knock u out." Your dumb as*s can't even spell a simple word that my 3rd grader can spell. It's "knock!" Not "nock." Go back to primary school anD pay attention the next time around.

  • Hey, "nockuout1", since your pea brain is too small to make a simple logical inference, I'll tell U what I was talking bout. It's this: That the sheer "guitar playing" skills or abilities of Geddy Lee are far superior to Eric Claptons. The last time I checked, a bass GUITAR IS STILL A FREAKIN GUITAR! Get it now, retard?

  • Greatest music track of all time. The guitar switch at 1:47 has no equal. Simply brilliant.

30 dislikes from Justin Beiber &his 29 fans...realising that Rush is in a league far far up & away.

  • 10 people don't have the latest adobe flash that's required to watch videos. the other 20 dislikes were by justin beiber because he thinks he's better, but he knows he's not. 3,045 people here heard rush, got hooked, and followed them throughout their career by buying albums and seeing concerts. those 3,045 people are awesome.

  • We should all thank Neil for joining rush, because geddy & alex wanted to play more complicated songs, and neil allowed them to do that, because he wanted to also. he also wrote the most amazing lyrics ever. thank you neil

  • I would say their best effort, but one has a hard time going against the gold standard, 2112. Still, i rank it between one and three all time for a Rush studio release. A great time to actually hear a band in the midst of transition. A great listen from start to finish .... which is the way music listening used to be .... an actual experience. Well under-rated, as far as Rush studio albums are concerned, .. in my opinion, of course.

  • Amazing, Just 3 guys creating that wall of sound.

  • musical orgasm at 1:47

  • 30 are Justin Beiber fans

  • 3,040 awesome people watched this video. 30 noobs decided to be a retard and click the dislike button :/

  • @13maxmom wow, a rush fan dropping the R bomb, I thought we had more class that that.

  • the first time i saw this, like 3 years ago, i thought it was filmed in the 90's at madison square garden. weird. then, i read the description...

  • Classic Concert. I was fortunate to see this tour live. I have seen over 40 Rush concerts over the years. This was the day when general admission seating was allowed. Smoke filled the arenas giving it a mystic aura. Concerts have changed and so has the sound systems. I still remember the growl of the Oberheim and Taurus pedals. It literally shook the seats. I still remember this concert and the early Moving Pictures Tour to this day.

  • @MrTank2112 You make me wish I was born 20 years earlier.

  • Dosen't get much better than that

  • So much freaking talent crammed into this tall thin man. What a musical genius, this Geddy Lee.

  • Xanadu... What a great epic story, masterfully narrated and played! Took me back to freshman year in college, 1978; gloriously blitzed out of my mind, listening to Rush, Pink Floyd, Iggy, Eno, Roxy Music. Xanadu's my favorite Rush song. NO ONE, in all of rock n roll history, had or, has more musical talent than Geddy Lee. He can show Eric Clapton places on the guitar that Clapton's still has never been to. And yes, Rush should reject/decline being insulted into the R n R Hall of SHAME.

  • @Don1352 ummm, eric clapton is a guitar player and geddy plays bass + keys. so WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ?

  • shit that is a long song but i love it : <3

  • F%*k Neil Peart ! you geeky drummers. What about the awesome bassplaying whilst singing and playin the odd bit of moog ! Go Geddy :)

  • @SlimyToad add to that ...bass pedals! (give or take an octave)

  • 29 ppl couldnt get tickets (:

  • 6:22 Neil drops his stick. classic!

  • Neil = Percussion Genius Extraordinaire. Or, maybe there are no words to describe him. I will love him forever.

  • Listen to how they leave it all on the stage, all for the audience to hear - awesome.

  • I'll always enjoy Rush, but there's something about seeing them up on stage in their youth like this, kickin' ass and takin' names, that almost brings a tear to my eye.

  • When was the last time they played this on tour?

  • @bacnline 2004 I think, the R30 tour

  • been going to concerts since 74 and no one has been this good everytime one big regret getting to high at fairwell to kings tour i think 78 dont remember anything but the start of the show and then leaveing . but as we grow older we learn

  • absolutly going in my play list

  • They always sound as good live as in the studio.

  • @cnsarge they sound better live than in the studio!

  • 29 viewers will NOT dine on honeydew or drink the milk of Paradise! Mad, mortal men!

And Neil rules the drums! Pope Neilus Solus!

  • Best Group EVER

  • those basslines are so creative

  • saw these guys twice, and both times was like a religious experience....Rush kicks ass live!

  • i worship these guys.they to me are the best rock band ever.

  • I'm just thinking how AMAZING it would be to see RUSH live!

  • couple of beers and i have a massive grin on my face. talent...

  • At 7:00, Neil is like, "Screw all these intellectual licks. I'm just going down the toms as fast as humanly possible."

  • i lijke how rush seems to be the only band that survived the 90's

  • dat synth solo...

  • 3:12-3:38 - Geddy is singing, playing bass and picking out the the synth melody on Moog pedals WITH HIS FOOT...I think the camera doesn't show this because the director wasn't aware such things were possible. awestruck.

  • I'm wondering where the film masters are for this concert. I wish they'd find them and re-edit the whole thing (add ALL of the songs that were filmed) and lose all of the early 80s video effects, and put it on Blu Ray.

  • sorry eric....jack...ginger. this is my favorite 3 piece band.ever.

  • @jr55ful Yeah, Cream was okay, but when Rush came out, Cream was like, "Dang. Our power trio crowns have just been yanked off our heads."

  • best band ever!

  • @stigb56 ...and 1 person (yes, you) DONT KNOW ANY DARN ENGLISSHHH

  • In my opinion, this is the best version of this epic piece of music. The sound is just perfect. The slightly slower tempo, as compared to the studio version, gives it such a majestic feel. Still gives me goosebumps.

  • And to think the AZZHOLES at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame continue to Leave out RUSH and KISS for that Matter. 2 Totally different spectrums of Music I will attest to....but My Goodness...How stupid do you have to be to keep picking IGNORANT bands that have done nothing more that sit back and watch these 2 bands literally kick the asses of countless millions of people for 30+ years? Seems as if something is wrong. I hope theydecline to accept when they get in. hall of fame is a complete joke

  • @killerchassis Don't forget the mighty Queensryche Just these 3 bands being inducted would make an amazing thing to watch.

  • BASS GUITAR/ GUITAR HYBRID? WTF!

  • Poderosos ,muito poderosos !

  • 1:27

Geddy: Did you hear that riff?

    Alex: Yeah

Geddy: 29 people are now pregnant

    Alex: TROLOLOLOLO

  • and they did ROCK!!!.......

  • Rush has been looked over for way to long by the R&R Hall of fame. They should have been inducted a long time ago

  • I am glad that Rush in not in the R&R HoF....it is

polluted with Run DMC, Madonna, and now Donna Sumer.

  • @superbulldog81: Who is Donna Sumer?

  • Amazing...just three guys

  • @Chalutz65: more, unless the synthesizers played themselves while Geddy was on bass. Check the 3:30 mark. maybe they dubbed it in later. but you can hear a Moog-sounding lead.

  • @fooloof Geddy is playing that synth line with his feet on the Moog Taurus pedals. Watch his legs. This is not untypical. Both he and Alex constantly trigger sounds as well play things on them.

  • @histhao: you do realize, don't you, that the Taurus is a bass synth?

  • @fooloof Histhao is correct. While the Taurus is a bass synth, it can also trigger many other things, via midi. This can be seen both with Geddy and Alex in La Villa...at Pinkpop 1979, as well as on R30.

  • @fooloof He was playing them with his feet.

  • Is this the most awesome performance ever or what?

  • Rush F*cking Rocks !! |m| just count how much instruments did they use to play this song....f*cking Epic.

  • EPIC !!!!!

  • nope 2112 is the best

  • Farewell to kings is the best album of all time!Rock on Rush fans!

  • @johnnyt521 no m8 exit stage left

  • I remember borrowing all the orchestra percussion in high school just so I could play this song. Great times!

  • Amazing how they can pull off such an elaborate arrangement live and for those who missed it Geddy Lee is playing the six string(on his doubleneck)during the keyboard passages when he's not playing the keyboards that is!

    Robert Nix Rock/Pop Artist

  • We love Geddy LEE!

  • Intense!

  • fuckin' 29 persons!!

  • 27 dislikes???? Its Rush.

Where you looking for the movie??

To dislike this is to dislike music.

  • The best band in the whole world ever !!!....here in Lima, Perú, we are waiting so long for them. I´ll wait for them until I die. RUSH Is like listening a SYMPHONIC. So powerfull and also relaxed that makes music so fantastic !!! RUSH COME TO PERÚ. VIVA EL PERÚ, CARAJO !!!

  • This is an absolutely amazing song!!! I was never into Rush growing up, I was more into Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, the old classic rock. And when I watched the movie I was kicking myself in the ass...wondering why I didn't like them, and as a bass player I learned the true potential of the bass thanks to these 3 guys.Geddy Lee is an amazing musician and I have him to thank for opening my eyes!!! Rock On!!!

  • First rush album I ever heard. Still my favorite. I didn't know this was on DVD. I need to get this right now.

  • Rush is the greatest Canadian import ever

  • the only good things that canada brought us are the following

    1. Canadian Bacon

    2. Hocky

    3.Blackberrys

    4. RUSH

  • This video has been added to your Favorites.

  • the double neck guitars are sickkkkk

  • @jamspooge86 double neck guitars 'sickkkk'? Just how are you supposed to play this without them?

Grow up or continue listening to Lady Gaga.............

  • @detheridge1951 yeah i meant they are cool idiot... have a good evening.

  • @detheridge1951 sick means friggin awesome.... man you RUSHed into dissing him on that one..

  • @gurubhai01

  • i shat myself at 2:12 and 4:19

  • wow they almost completely rocked that damn ringing in my ears and the weird thing is that id I leave my room the ringing stops help me please.

  • God damn, the talant in these 3 guys. The "rock 'n roll hall of f
