Hey man, just a quick question. I'm up to the part where you select the Direct Selection button, click on the black and then delete. But as soon as I press delete the whole image goes.. What am I doing wrong? Is there a smart key?
If you could get back to me asap that would be great :) need to get this t shirt printed straight away!!
@JessWoess When you clicked expand, do you get all your archer points? ...after that, make sure you deselect everything before using the direct selection and choosing black. That should select only the background colour before deleting. :) ...still having trouble, DM me! thanks
Great tutorial. I have a Quick question for you, when going from Photoshop to Illustrator can I open the image from my desk top to Illustrator, if so what format should my image be? It's a three color image at 300dpi. but for some reason I can't just copy and paste it to Illustrator. Thanks!
@jamezcua333 You may be able to. I've actually never tried! Is Illustrator giving you a reason why it won't copy over? Something it won't copy because the image is too large, if so, try dropping your resolution down a bit before you copy over. Still having issues, DM me :)
I have a question how do u make a design, like what tools in this sofware do u use nd stuff because ive been trying to design something but dont noe how Thank you.
@Why5o5eriouz Many brushes and type tool (for text of couse!).. Google "Brusheezy" for hundreds of great free brushes. Make sure the brushes you use are full opacity brushes, no gradients as they will not trace well in Illustrator :)
@Why5o5eriouz Depends what program you prefer. Printing on T-shirts required vector image so Illustrator is technically better but if you're like me and prefer to design in photoshop.. this technique works great :)
Just wondering - what's a good size to use in the image? I know it's better to make it bigger because images manipulate better when shrinking than growing. I just don't know what size is big enough.
@InfamousSI The larger the better of course! Because the most pixels are in you Photoshop image, the more information Illustrator has to trace. I usually trace at about 7inch x 9inch at 150dpi... if I want a higher degree of detail in the trace, I will up that to 300dpi
@PhotoMatrix1 That's odd :S did you click "expand" to create the anchor points on your design, separating the colours? ...if you're still having trouble, DM me and I'd be happy to help you further :)
@TheWildernessCry I have had some trouble with tracing in the past where it deletes 1 colour... if it persists to trace incorrectly, make your background colour a bright colour that is different from your other colours. for example.. if your design is black and green on a white background, make the background colour RED before tracing :)
@TheWildernessCry Hi.. make sure you have click "expand" in the previous step to activate your anchor points so that your colors will be seperate. Then make sure you select ONLY your background color (in the video's case, that was black) before selecting same fill color and delete :)
hope this helps! DM me if you need further assistance.. I'd be glad to help :)
@SenseiKrush I'm noticing the same thing. But what I've noticed is that when I select my background (which also happens to be black) it is not selecting at all... which means when I go through to the process to delete... it deletes what's within my vector points. :( help please. I guess I could select the inverse... but I'd rather know how it's done here.
dude, saved my life with this. had to get some prom shirts done and FAST. Thanks!

@JessWoess Don't worry man! I just got it!
But what do I save it as? Meaning do I save it as a "Adobe FXG (*.FXG)" "Adobe Illustrator (*.AI)" Illustrator EPS (*.EPS).. Etc. ??
Thanks.
JessWoess 6 months ago
@JessWoess Save as EPS :) AI always has compatibility issues if the printers don't have the same version of illustrator

Why won't my direct selection tool select the background color... it still has a "?" mark when I click on my background.

My background is white but I am missing the green that goes along with the design.
