This is underrated imo, does really nice almost classic cinema mock documentary what people call "slow paced" often in movies is just more room for smaller details, then you've got these ridiculous CG action sections and then the ending just kinda goes "ok fuck it, what do you want from us?" thought it was great.

I saw this movie a few years back at an asian film festival. It's ok, I felt the trailer was misleading. I thought the movie would have been a 4/5 star for me, but it ended up being maybe a 2.8 out of 5.

Its available on Netflix Streaming so there's nothing to lose. Go check it out, it is definitely on the slower side, with a lot of talking.

Also, there appears to be some kind of religious analogy because everytime a monster is killed his soul is seen assending up to heaven. Samarai flicks are the best. Disagreed. Sure the Japanese elements can be very awkward, but there's something about it that really gives you a subtle message about the culture and lifestyles there. Hmm... can't say I enjoyed it, and I usually enjoy random, awkward comedies and weird Japanese films :S

The whole "documentary joke" stopped being funny in the first 10 minutes and yet it was milked for almost 2 hours. It's not like the performances were bad either, the whole thing just didn't work for me.

Plus I found the Cg kinda meh, the human faces were very well-crafted but the animation was stiff and the creatures didn't look like they belonged in the real-life backgrounds at all.
