4 thumbs up for the remake of this song...XD VIVA RATM!!! XD
When I was 12 this was my first concert form this tour. Zack broke his ankle earlier in the day but limped out on stage an hour or so late, thanked the crowd for their patience and then went into People of the Sun. I broke my nose about 8 seconds later and couldn't have cared less.
Their whole point was their message. It's a Goddamn shame it was completely lost on the crowds of over privileged 16 year olds, and dumb frat boys they played for. Bruce Springsteen wrote this song, and his version is MUCH better.
@ExUSSailor You say that as if all people who like Rage are stupid and only listened to them for their sound. There are plenty of us who loved them (and still do) for their message as well as their sound. And I think this version sounds better because, well, it sounds RAGING which is kind of the point of the song. It supposed to sound serious.
@ExUSSailor Wow. No. Tom Morello is a great metal/funk experimental guitarist. The bass is beautifully horrific. The drums are perfect for the song. The vocalist isn't that great but is creative lyrically, and is good with Dynamics. I am a musician myself. I come from the lowerish middle class people of my city. I'm foyrteen, and listen to Classical music, experimental like... everything, jazz, something called trip-hop. I listen to Rage against the machine about 37% for their message. 0% rep. .
@Kwaadvlieg Sorry I didn't comment the right way massa. I'll just stfu and wait for you to tell me what to do and how I can do it? And how the are you supporting Rage? Did you hit the "Donate" button? Hey, do you want a thumbs up for being on Rage's sack? Get off it. I think that making a reasonably funny comment that applied an interesting meme that's native to (as far as I know) Youtube commenting, was a valid comment and a contribution to this page. More so than your hating-ass comment.
@disestablishme rage is definitely for freedom. I hope it wasn't misunderstood that I was saying they are for either facism or anarchism, because this would be a lie. And in regards to communism, I meant that rage fights for equality, and when looked at from an economic stand point, this would include some communistic views, the fact that theres such a negative connotation to the word is a shame. Your political views are also very interesting, I would be hard pressed to say I entirely disagree.
@BulldogsRule12 fascism and anarchism are in essence completely opposite political views. Would ratm preach completely contradicting things? No. And so what if they preach communism? Communism implies no political affiliation, its an economic system, the perfect one in theory, just as free market capitalism should be. Yes, one that fails, but look around and try and tell me capitalism is a huge success. Have some form of rudimentary understanding of concepts before talking about them, please.
@Seankr67 the only thing rage is for is freedom. REAL freedom. which makes them against corrupt politicians, secret government, and in fact one world government, one world banking, fascism, bush, clinton... theyre not left wing or right wing, because u have to understand the game, both sides are going for the same agenda, the left side wants a gradual transformation into a totalaterian government. the right wing wants to smash middle class into the lower class and plunge us into early graves NOW
@vampyrhart what is it that you dont believe? what are they trying to sell? records obviously, but truely you are a person of nobelity. you MUST be a person who genuinely hears the messege in the music and are turned off because of your dependence on unfair tax cuts... unless of course youre one of those people who cant hear shit over the sound of yourself, allowing other people to sculpt your opinion for you. or you could be one of those twilight whores. LOL!!!
cause speaking out against an obviously corrupt and broken system designed to enslave the poor makes you a communist. better to have another generic corporate cut and paste pop star billionaire.
seriously, kill yourself. you are part of the problem.
You're telling other people to kill themselves and you think I'm part of the problem? No doubt the band has some rockin sounds but the lyrics are preaching everything from anarchy to fascism to communism. It's a cluster fuck of shit. I can't help you're ignorant. Maybe with time you will see.
I actually don't listen to any modern popular music. Most of the music I listen to now is at least a decade old.
@BulldogsRule12 sorry but in my opinion (don't misunderstand me, I'm not insulting you), the last part of your comment is really regressive. At least in the way you have written it down.
@BulldogsRule12 They speak out against communism and fascism ...they're just anarchist. Either way, I love their music, but I don't believe in that sort of thing.
yes, ya know the original song, the lyrics are written by Bruce Springsteen. first song on "the ghost of tom joad" album, witch is such an intelligent and perfectly well told story-album.
rage against the machine is the best fucking band that ever walked this planet bottom line they are cold, raw and bone chilling they dont fuck around on stage
@SEVFEST Sorry, but thats not true. This song is written by Bruce Springsteen. He was inspired by Woodie Guthries song (the ballad of Tom Joad), but it's not a cover.
Springsteens Tom Joad is the original, this is the cover.

WOW I just listened to bruce springsteen sing this with Tom and i have to say it is 100 times better then this crap. This has to be one of the worst songs ive ever heard so much better with Bruce Springsteen.
Man, I was at this show. So solid. September of 1997 I think in Irvine. The Foo Fighters opened for them. Trying to pause it on the crowd shots but it's complete chaos!
@futureshocker The band and the crowd were completely going off. Probably because the gig was in Rage territory (Southern Cal). Crowd jammed from the stage all the way to the lawn area in the back. I still have the backstage pass sticker from this show somewhere now that I think about it. @litlemadguitarist yea i think so, i think its the renagades album, they get a lot of song and make their own vers. im not sure though youll have to look it up
@litlemadguitarist Yep, it is on the "Renegades" album, and also " The Ghost of Tom Joad" Single, if you like this, you might want to check out "Maggie's Farm", which is also on the "Renegades" album.
He suffers from "PURE MENTAL REALNESS" FN beautiful .......This comes from the movement ........you know who we are .....the one s you think about before you sleep and the first one's you THINK about when you wake up. Don't be a slave.
how the fuck is this live. i looked away and just thought it was the song. so much power. so much feeling. but fucking flawlessly presented in such a concise package. perfection.
This band, and especially this song, opened my eyes wide open during my teen years on many deep social and humanitarian issues, on the real power structure of our fucked up world. RATM's energy is very powerfull! Gives me chills every time...
@destroysubgenres Tell me, my friend, what is it you want to hear...? The official story, or the real story...? Please think about thoroughly as well. Just wondering why you're asking this question. I can tell you however that power lies not in a parliement, nor in any visible political structure.
@kinora98 Thank you, I was hoping you would say that. We have the power, the millions have the power. Not the democratic power we would like however. I thought your comment implied that the power was held by politicians and billionaires. Sorry man.
@destroysubgenres No worries! :o) Although I must make a distinction between the power imposed and the potential power in our societies. I do believe that power nowadays is held by a handful individuals on the globe that we dont get to hear of. They are responsible for imposing the matrix of power we live in, because people dont realise yet, or are starting to awaken slowly, to the potential power of the masses, much greater than theirs! Cheers! :o)

@litlemadguitarist Yep, it is on the "Renegades" album, and also " The Ghost of Tom Joad" Single, if you like this, you might want to check out "Maggie's Farm", which is also on the "Renegades" album.

Rage Against The Machine should really make a song with Immortal Technique.

This band, and especially this song, opened my eyes wide open during my teen years on many deep social and humanitarian issues, on the real power structure of our fucked up world. RATM's energy is very powerfull! Gives me chills every time...

@kinora98 Tell me, who ha the power in our society? Think about it. Please reply.
destroysubgenres 1 year ago
@destroysubgenres Tell me, my friend, what is it you want to hear...? The official story, or the real story...? Please think about thoroughly as well. Just wondering why you're asking this question. I can tell you however that power lies not in a parliement, nor in any visible political structure.
kinora98 1 year ago
@kinora98 Thank you, I was hoping you would say that. We have the power, the millions have the power. Not the democratic power we would like however. I thought your comment implied that the power was held by politicians and billionaires. Sorry man.
destroysubgenres 1 year ago
@destroysubgenres No worries! :o) Although I must make a distinction between the power imposed and the potential power in our societies. I do believe that power nowadays is held by a handful individuals on the globe that we dont get to hear of. They are responsible for imposing the matrix of power we live in, because people dont realise yet, or are starting to awaken slowly, to the potential power of the masses, much greater than theirs! Cheers! :o)
