yeah these guys were the lucky ones. The bad crashes are when the bike flips 10 ft in the air and crashes down on the poor rider. Thankfully thats a rare event.

Its not that it can't be ripped, its that it can withstand the high amount of heat caused by friction that causes most gear to deteriorate.

Cyclists certainly do not wear leather, and they never have or will.

Also ever = even, and has = have I think you'll find.

Its not sliding that injures you if you are wearing the gear (and they obviously are), its coming to a sudden stop. That's why they have sand traps and lots of space from the track to the barriers - so they can slide to a stop over a long distance. Of course if your own bike hits you, thats when, as the above poster said, it gets bad.

highsiding in itself can cause pretty serious injury even if the bike misses you. consussions and shoulder injuries are probably the most common but smackin your ankles down and stuff is not rare. hell even tumbling the wrong way after a high speed lowside could give you some serious injury. its not a safe sport. dont get me wrong, the runoffs help and stuff, but the bike hitting you is most certainly not the only way to get injured without hitting a wall.

The rubber on the outer wheel gets warm and tacky so when you lean it rides right on the edge. As long as you don't go past the edge your fine. You see what happens when you dip to much. Notice their knee has a pad as well for when it touchs the pavement. The leather suit and different pads keeps your body from geeting serious road rash.
