While the plants have higher carbon footprints than conventional wells, they have consistant numbers that compare equally to any system processing heavy oil such as they do. Conventional wells are typically not a heavy oil producer...though some are, therefore, they do not have the same requirements for processing that bitumen does.

The littering the ground with poison water comment is interesting, the water is mostly contained in ponds that collect it for recycling. As for animals drinking and swimming in it, yes, some do live in it. But the vast majority of animals are kept away from the ponds, so they aren't any more affected than those living away from the plants and ponds.

The reclaimed land they create is usually more productive, and a better fit for the wildlife that inhabits the region in which they mine. You have yet to show any of the "facts" you have thrown out there to be true. Golf courses displace animals through development.

You do realize that all wildlife incidents are reported and recorded right? In total, on all of the oilsands sites combined, an average of three bears per year are killed. The majority of those are from nuisance bears becoming dependant on garbage for sustenance or becoming a hazard to humans. That's far less than most small towns by the way.
