i had an arabian/mustang mix and last time I did that emergancy dismount, I was riding with a bareback pad and a bridle! I was a beginner rider and the people we got the horse from used to rider her all the time, well she freaked and took off at a fast canter and I went to throw myself off like you did, but my foot got caught under the pad! I then was able to throw myself off, but little did I know that i sprang my ankle i was ok tho

@TheHarryPotter4eva haha!! it's not that hard! the idea is to do that before you would fall off to prevent injury, even though we all know falls happen much too fast to be like "OH LET ME GET OFF NOW...." lol

BUT it's a great thing to know how to do. Ohh and you could also do this maybe if your horse was spooking. Idk just a thought!:)

nah it just takes practice to see them coming well ahead of time. We do this sort of thing all the time in vaulting form all kinds of positions. That and real dismounts that are part of our routeins :)

If i'm in the sddle i take stirrup out and jump off to whatever side is outside of the rail, if i'm barebak (usually) i just say 'im screwed' and sometimes ride it out, sometimes, do wat u did xD great
