im not insulting your way of doing things. but the movements seem very choppy like hesitant is it cuz your on a diffrent level then your partner or have not figured out your breathing with movement yet Energy flows more free with the right wind
most definitely members of the same family .. I was training with Master Shum this weekend. A few of us are testing for our teaching certification so lots of work to do! Please stop by the school if you are ever in New York. Take care!
I got into a fight in a night-club a few months ago and if I hadn't taken kung fu for the past year, I might not have done so well. People don't understand that learning kung fu is not for you can try to perform the techniques meticulously in real situations, but for you to train up a fighting sense that will come to you naturally when the moment arises. Also, grappling happens almost immediately after the first few punches are thrown, if both parties are still standing.
It's really hard to use Chin Na techniques in real fighting situations.
That's one of the reasons why kungfu students beginn to learn these techniques at advance level.
It depends on the level of martial arts you've reached and the time you've invested in practicing Chin Na, whether you can use them effectively or not.
Have it ever occurred to you kung fu might be designed for staged fights? Throughout the Chinese history, opera (and some street performance) had been very popular in all social classes, these flowery moves might have been what the actors trained to perform.
Regardless, it's nice to see westerners make these cultural assets available to the world, chinese people won't do that, the always treat their knowledge very secretively and reluctant to leak out anything.
never try and catch a punch. but if you step out of the punch and let ur hand get in the way to deflect, from there all it takes is moving your fingers a bit and youve got his wrist grabbed.
trying to catch the punch out of mid air impossible....unless ur like a fighting god vs a retard. but stepping out and deflecting is just basic defensive shit, and once ur there its easy to control the arm, and a wrist grab can turn into an armlock in a second...i dont do kungfu tho i do kobudo...
Cool Chin-Na techniques in that two partner Eagle claw sparring form, Good vid.

@JarredD798HungMan1
Thanks a lot!!!
It´s a small part of the whole form.
Qin Na is really a specialty of Eagle Claw;
don´t know something like this from other traditional styles.

Yeeees, students have to learn many things before: fundamental strikes, kicks, footwork, feeling for distance, throws, defense, anticipation andandand
All this is the fundament.
Qin Na is only one of this parts for the advanced students.
The Hop Jin Kuen (Harmonic War) contains many dangerous techniques, some of the techniques to the cervical spine are lethal.
So (as the name of the form already indicates) students can only practice this set in a very harmonic way.

Nice but can you really use that in a fight?
If you've even been in a real fight, you'd know it's almost impossible to grab your opponent's punch throwing at you.

Using Chin Na is in fact really difficult in real fight situation.
That's the reason why these techniques are practiced after many years of training, when the student became advanced.
You would not use Chin Na in any fighting situation, but the answer of your question is, YES, at least I can, in a real fight.

1. In Kung Fu history there have been many famous fighters, soldiers, generals;
but only very few opera dancers.
2. I´m not sure where you get your image
of real, original Chinese masters.
Especially in Eagle Claw there are some sifus publishing dozens of instructional videos revealing nearly everything (not very reluctantly).
What I published here from Hop Jin Kuen, is not much less than 5 % (and I won´t sell any single technique more!).

Mantis and Eagle claw Kung Fu have many techniques, that are trying to get contact with the opponent and the consecutive use of this contact.
Despite of that we have no illusions!
We can´t catch/trap every attack; that´s not possible.
Qin Na is one small part of a more differentiated system of fight principles.

That´s exactly our way of practicing.
Although we practice Eagle Claw and Mantis (both styles try to get contact),
we are fully aware, that noone can catch
a punch directly!!!
Catching, grabbing. locking... only possible after the first contact.
