I do something similar with budgeting. I use Quicken. I love it and it was only 30 bucks at Best Buy. We are a one income family too. Since I'm the one is who is home, I handle the finances too. It probably helps that I used to work for a credit card company so yeah I've seen some scary numbers. I love this series!
with our store credit card (i have a fashion bug one) we pay it off every single month. if not we get 24% interest! that is CRAZY! oi! but i use them for the benefit and pay it off every month. but what i heard was a good tip was to write it into the check book with a note that it is cc (credit card) and subtract it from your account right then. then it is there at the end of the month. i know you dont have credit cards but it was a good tip that i had gotten
@InAWomansWorld i hope u dont think that i was giving you tips! lol u do an awesome job :) but just didnt know if u had heard of that and since everyone is holding your video up as the model to work off off i bet you will get lots of questions...
We are a family that lives on a written budget! We have our budget meetings before every month starts and we spend every dollar on paper beforehand. Got rid of credit cards and stated an emergency fund. We stick to the cash envelope system because it is WAY more emotional than swiping a debit card. Once we are out of debt, we will work on a fully funded emergency fund of 3-6mos of expenses. Living on a written budget is SO important and we want to say thx for sharing this great info!
@LivLikeNo1Else Hello! I've been a huge fan of your YT channel & have enjoyed watching your families journey to become debt free:D You have some amazing input here! Thank you for sharing :D
Thank you for this video. I think that is a cool idea to have an account for your husband's lunches, etc, I could even put money in their for my husband's hunting license fees, birthday, or christmas shopping, etc. Lots of great ideas.
@raemomma2 Yes, ma'am! Thats exactly what "his" account is for. Anything and everything "he" needs & he never has to worry if it will affects "bills" and such. Now, he does have to keep an eye on the "bottom" line and make sure he doesn't over draft his account though..lol
@alandamandamama Thank you, Amanda! It keeps things very clear. Like I say, "If I were to die today Wes would be able to pick-up the pieces by tomorrow"..lol. Wow, that sounds morbid doesn't it? :D
very good ideas :) josh and i just started to write down our budget and how much we spend on what, we also plan ahead and always say we owe more then we actually do so that way if we do go over on something we're not strapped for cash. we also pay a little extra on each bill if we can so we build a credit up - that way when we have a time where money is tight we don't have to pay as much on bills :). We actually just got no fee bank accounts AND they give us points towards groceries.
Also I think we budget the same the way your explaining it. I use a Excel Spreadsheet and I look online often at my bank account to make sure there are no 'fishy' charges :) We started budgeting like this when my husband started getting paid only once a month. If I didn't budget the way I do we'd be broke haha
@misskrystle12 You know its funny you mentioned a monthly pay b/c when we were a military family we were paid twice monthly & it forced us to become more "money aware". Great job!
I'm 26 now with two kids and my hubby and I finally saved up enough money for our first house! We get the keys this friday. We are so happy, though it did take alot of patience.
