From a purely technical point of view. This would've been so much better if they made use of the 1960's style of dramatic close-up of Archer's face or eyes during this scene.

No kidding. They used to do that quite a bit, on the old TOS, and even during the first season of TNG.

Season 1 and 4 are the only good seasons of this show. In season 2 they tried to "retool" it by adding gratuitous sex/nudity scenes and damaged the interesting stories. Then in season 3 they told a 28-part story that was incredibly boring due to extreme stretching of the plot (it would have been good as a 10-part story)

Then in season 4 they dismissed the show-runner (Braga) and gave it to a new guy who actually UNDERSTOOD Star Trek. The best stories of the show came from that last year
