This made me smile. My grandpa used to take me and my brother to school in the early mornings before my mom came home from work because she worked midnights, and my grandpa always listened to this and "The battle of New Orleans" and it just made me think about him and brought back some great memories, he passed away almost 3 years ago. Thanks for the Memories!
I remember standing on the "hump" in the back seat of my daddy's 56 ford and singing this song with him. I was five years old and we really worked it out. :)
My dad ran a coffee shop in Palatka, Florida in the early 60's. I used to run around and play there as a little squirt and this song played on the juke box alot. Imprinted in my young brain for sure. I think of my dad and that little diner every time I hear this song. Memories.........
loved this music i was learning how to swim at the crest motel in seattle....doris and delores wow...deep memories here...thx shannon burns born in seattle
I was always a big fan of Johnny Horton's. I was only ten when this song first came out but within time it grew on me & so did all his other songs. Johnny left us way too soon in that fatal car crash in 1960 at the prime of his youth, 35 years old. I could only imagine how many more songs he could have made. He was known for movie theme songs & his first venture out of the block, "The Battle Of New Orleans" which was a chart topper in 1959. It's true "the good they do die young" amen to that!!
I first heard this song in the movie of the same name, starring John Wayne several years before Sarah Palin was born. It is sung by Johnny Horton, who died before Sarah Palin was born.
Now, would you say something like this about somone you actually knew? What a dippy comment about a real person, regardless of one's politics. Silly woman.
What about the goofy song by Bob and Doug McKensie ... "Take off eh, to the great what north ... take off you hosers" that cracks me up everytime I hear this song!!!!!!
Great song, great lyrics, great singer, great video.
Governor Sarah -- stay as unspoiled as that wonderful state of yours...I am glad that you will not become a Washington insider, which turns honest people into dishonest sleaze-bags! Congrats on becoming a grandparent!
Canada lost its claim to being a decent country when they gave up their rights individual firearms ownership. OPNly cops and crooks now own guns. Where does that leave honest citizens when their lives are threatened? Any gov't that takes away decent citizen's rights to self-defense is not a just gov't. and any citizens that don't topple such a gov't. are not just citizens.
I kind of wondered about life there, maybe southern Canada like Toronto for me someday but I don't think Alaska. You never know though! I sailed once in the Navy there, loved seeing the cute puffin birds! Looked and felt like a really cold foggy depressing place when I was there otherwise, but that can bring out some cool crazy behavior so I bet I may like it there on land! Hey thanks for the video post!

Just wondering who is Mitchell davis reply and tell me please. But about the song I love it and I like it because off of the movie North To Alaska with John Wayne.
i will say alaska is amazing. Ive taken alot of carribean and alot of alaskan cruises as well. Ive traveled the world for many years. It depends what your looking for. if your looking to sip a mai tai and relax on a white sand beach, then carribean. If your looking to sightsee and adventure, fish, and be in the outdoors alaska is a must. Beautiful land there.
Oh Lord, I have never lived where steeples grow. I loved your creation as you finished it so long ago. And you looked on your work and called it good. I know that others find you in the light thats filtered down through tinted window panes. And yet I seem too feel you near tonight. In this dim,quiet starlight on the plains.{By George Badger Clark written for his mother. }
My mum regularly went crazy when we heard this song on the radio in the early eighties: It often was on 'Evergreens a Go-Go'; a famous radio oldie show in Berlin those days, which HAD to be on during sunday morning breakfast. So now, another bunch of years later, this track has become a sweet little memory from my as well as from my mum's young years - kind of funny that...
Anyway, Peter, thanks a lot towards Down Under for the really beautiful pictures you added to this nice melody!
