  • ok soo last night we got a some bad weather and i hit some black ice and i slammed sideways into a curb... my rim is not bend but is cracked on the side... im getting a grinding noise when stopping... and my wheel alignment is messed.. heavy pull to the right... any suggestions...

  • I fix ball joint end my wheel doin the shit now uuff

  • looks like you need new inner tie rods aswell

  • One of the dislikes is from the cat.

  • Just had that prob it was the outer tierod

  • I had one on my poor old saturn that was at least that bad. I should have checked earlier when it started making some noise, but eh, I'm lazy. :P

  • oh ya, there the problem right thar

  • shit...that is fuckin dangerous

  • Shit me that's bad

  • To test wheel bearings, get the car up to about 70kmph (I think about 45 mph) or when ever the wheel starts making noise. Do a sharp lane change in the direction of the suspected bearing(make sure to do it safely) to unload the bearing. If the noise stops you have found the Source of the problem and what side it's on. i.e. A sharp lane change left and the noise disappears mean you have a bad front left wheel bearing.

  • shit my wheel fell off. 75 bucks to get towed home then 512 bucks to get a new wheel assembly put in.

  • that dont mean its wheel bearings, either tie rods or upper and lower balljoints depending on tha car

  • could be ball joints to

  • @LoganTheRedneck What I think it is, myself, is the uh bypass line.

  • Several seconds after this clip ended. The poor pussy cat was squished by the full weight of the car due to a faulty jack. May it forever rest in peace.

  • is that a squirl??

  • is that Eagle Talon turboed? and i thought moving it like that means you have a bad tie rod

  • Thank you fknochgoon24 or your short but very helpful video. Also thanks to the expert comment by rasnake123456789 that the side by side shake test is for checking the tie rods, and the the up & down shake test is for the wheel bearings.

  • check your tire rod

  • Thank you for posting this

  • fake! the cat was working with you making the noise...

  • is that bad to have wheel bearing?

  • does anyone know what a slight vibration at about 55-60mph in the steering wheel could be? this is no weights on any of the wheels for some reason? could that cause it to be out of balance without there being weights on the wheels.

  • @chevyblows2001 Well yea... Get your tires balanced.

  • @popwarhomie well it had weights on the inside of the wheels but its one small one. usually cars with the lip wheel like mine have weights on the front of the wheels too.

  • When I make a left turn in my 2001 Cavalier, I get a grinding noise under acceleration. I replaced the CV axel and it still makes the noise. Could it be the wheel bearing?

  • yea thats a wheel bearing

  • @Arcticcatfan1892

Nah I found it was a busted motor mount.

  • Bettagrow21 What type of car are you driving? 1200 for cv boots and wheel bearings, thats alot. Cv boots replacement should cost around 75-95 each to replace and wheel bearings around 180 each side plus 75-150 in labour. Pay cash too, don't use credit cards or debit, most of these mechanics love cash. Work out a deal with them..

  • @Ihateyoucritic666 it does depend on the car your driving, and he also said ball joints....that job alone on a mercedes around 400-450$ if your lucky

  • mondo82111, I had replace the cv boots, front brakes and wheel bearings. The Cv boots were broken and front brakes (new rotors and brake pads) were screwed and wheel bearings. Total bill to fix all this crap at Mechanic shop 550.00, nice dent in my wallet..

  • @Ihateyoucritic666 Wow. I went to a shop and just had to have ONE CV boot replaced a ball joint and my rear wheel bearings were bad. He gave me a quote for about $1200!

  • @Bettagrow21

    find another shop

  • @Ihateyoucritic666 why are u complaining bcuz you got off EASYYYYYYY

  • What are you talking about? Who is complaining, I just stated what I had to pay to repair the damage and it was well worth the investment. Whether or not I got off easy, like you state, is unknown to me.

  • how much does it cost to replace a front wheel bearing (in pairs) plus the rubber part is split open on both sides, I was quoted 180 each side is this right or am I being scammed.. Thanks in advance..

  • @Ihateyoucritic666 man you can get to perfectly new wheel bearing from ebay for 40 buck i replaced both of mine on my trailblazer

  • Yep thats Def. how you know..

  • My vic. makes a rubbing noise when i turn the wheel and shakes when i hit about 65mph. Is this the bearings???

  • wow i will be scared if i drive that in the freaway

  • Thanks!

  • its dangerous to leave it that long, your whole wheel and bearing Assembly could break off

  • hi - i have a 1991 trans am, and i am hearing a grinding noise when i turn and there is a humming sound from the wheel - is this all to do with my steering pump? it has enough fluid in there, trapped air maybe?

  • The grinding sound when you turn is the tale-tell sign of a bad wheel bearing. If may also grind/hum even when driving straight. Are you sure the hum is not just from the tire tread?

  • @knochgoon24 could also be a ball joint...

  • You do realize that this video is 2 and a half years old? The car has been fixed has has about 30,000 miles on it since then.

  • @knochgoon24 thats fine, if people do read that it could save them trouble, only trying to help :P

  • @knochgoon24 yeah and what's your point? was it really just the bearing or was it also a ball joint?? my car's wheel does NOT jiggle around like that and it needs new bearings.

  • @knochgoon24 never mind, read a previous reply saying both were bad. but a jiggling wheel is not a tell all sign that bearings are bad. usually it's a tale tell sign the ball joint is bad. glad it's fixed!!!

  • @knochgoon24 lmfao..

  • @knochgoon24 was it actually wheel bearing or cv joint?

  • @knochgoon24 I hope you mean you put an additional 30,000 on it. Because there isn't any way that eagle talon has only 30,000 on it.

  • @The18Jake it says in his comment 30,000 SINCE THEN just saying

  • @thetakeoverCA ball joint usually pop or click.

  • @knochgoon24 You'll also hear a dudding noise as well

  • the grinding noise is a tapered roller bearing in one of the wheel just chang the all they are not expensive. that humming noise is probly cause you are low on power steering fluid.

Ive got a 1992 Camaro mechanicaly the same car as yours

  • did you ever fix the problem a bad ball joint can sound squeky look to see if any of the ruber seals are broken check the pws fluid if you can change and use good quality fluid it maters in the long run

  • side to side test is mainly for tie rods and up and down for wheel bearings.

  • Yes it is.

On my car, both were bad.

  • Wheel bearing play can be felt side to side or up and down. Steering play can only be felt by shaking it side to side.

  • on some new cars its hard to tell... movement like that could be a bad tie rod end or even loose nuts. My car had a bad lower control arm bushing that caused that on my drivers side... but my passenger side wheel bearing IS toast and that wheel doesnt move any different than when it was good. new cars can be tricky.

  • i got problem here.. can i ask some... my problem is wen i shake up and down normal left and right a bit loosen so izit ball join or wheel bearing ??? anyone know...

  • If it's loose left-right, then it's probably a ball joint.

  • so now i need 2 buy new ball join..thanks 2 u....

  • What's truly sad from an engineering standpoint is some vehicles come with greaseless ball joints, so when they develop a slight leak, they're defunct. Although mine is a 2wd Ranger, so it was relatively simple. And I was able to acquire aftermarket joints equipped with grease zerks. :)

  • if theirs a bit of freeplay with up and down movement inspect wheel bearings they may just need to be preloaded again.

  • need 2 buy new ball join... thanks 2 u....

  • holy crap, I have never seen that. lol

  • oo= is that a dodge avenger x] jus curious

  • 97 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD

  • The wobble test is only good for confirming that your bearings are completely shot.

In my experience when the bearings starts to go you first notice it when you're driving at high speed and it starts vibrating. But when you jack the wheel up there's no noticeable wobble..no matter how much you rock it. Conversely, I've had garages tell me that there was too much play in the hub and it needed changing only to find out that it was just a wheel balancing problem.

  • to test wheel bearing you go uyp and down to elminate the tie rod bad issue. if it wobbles left right only , then tie rod likely

if it goes up and down only ... maybe a ball joint

if it goes up and down and left and right and the soudns and feel is the same, then wheel bearing, like in this vid

  • if it was a tie rod it wouldnt do it up and down also just left to right

  • yea he totally just made a video telling u it was his bearing, so U could comment and tell everyone it was a tie-rod. it's obviously a bad bearing or he wouldnt have titled the video that. DUUUUUUMMMMM ASSSSS

  • Seems like a tie rod

  • you seem like an idiot

  • yeah it's both.

  • Classic test that never fails. My room mate's wheel bearing on the driver side was just about gone cause when he wiggled the wheel/tire it literally turned as if he was taking the whole thing off right there!

Wish I had my camera at that time haha

  • thanks for that.. i guess my bearing is bad

  • I done mines with a heavey hammer, so your wrong. Or don't have the brains to improvise.

  • Good example of "The wiggle test".

  • I concur.

  • get a better car, sooner or later main bearing's gonna go and then cam loops knocking and then piston ring loose valosity than burn oil than real main seal than engine sease.

  • Piston rings - Will go on with the new pistons

Rear main seal - Changed it when I had the engine out.

Cams - Soon to be changed BC 272s

...All in preparation for a Holset WH1C.

The wheel bearing and tie rod went because I slid it into a hillside at 40mph. What can you expect. Nothing bent.

Engine will cease? You can't take car of a car can you? You're just jealous b/c the only videos you've uploaded are of Runescape. (True fact.)

  • hey can i ask you something , i have an all wheel drive and when i go over bumps on the road,it sounds like somethings loose or something in my read wheel , it sounds like christmas bell, do you have and ideas on what it could be?

  • Sorry, but nope. I've never had that problem.

  • shock??

  • well my truck used to squeak every bump i hit sometimes when i go into it and i could jump up and down on the rear bumper and it would make the noise found out(after bying 4 new shocks cuz there were gone and i thought it was them ) that bolt on the bracket for my emergeny brake wires was loose so it was rubbing against my leaf springs making a squak noise basically what caused it was metal rubbing against metal

  • This is happening on my Saturn right now. But only moves side to side not up and down. It's definitely the bearing because my car sounds like a tank when rolling. Also the tie rod moves when I pull on it. Time to hit the junkyard since a don't have a bearing press.

  • So it is not the cv joint?

Let us know what you find.

  • No, the cv joint would make a clicking noise then turning. Also the cv boot would have to be ripped for the grease to leak out.

  • A press is not a necessity for handling wheel bearings. Message me if you need help.

  • On my car, you have to press the wheel bearing out of the hub. I couldn't get the bearing out of the hub even with a press (rust) so I was stuck replacing the hub.

  • If you tire only moves side to side it's not your bearings. Bearings will have play in all directions. You're most likely looking at tie rods, either inner or outer or both, or possibly ball joints.

  • this hapens to mine but oly moves to the sides not up and down, but i still don't know if its my wheel bearing

  • It's probably a tie rod.

  • It was the wheel bearing. The tie rod also needed replaced, but most of the play was from the bearing.

  • Could also be a ball joint.

    What was it?
