  • Thank you, you have restored my faith in myself. I thought I was weird carrying a multitool.

  • Thought at the beginning you were going to show us a tool-fannypack :) LOL JK

picked up the Skeletool the other day and of course had to see if it had been reviewed by TNP.

didn't see one :( had to look ...(gasp) elsewhere!!! on youtube

  • iv made a response video to this and ill putting on youtube prety soon.

hope you view it and i would like to haer you comments.

  • nice multi tools but my mt is a real crazy design its handle is a mi pry bar ive never herd of any multi tool with a handle capable of being used as a pry bare. I think its made by ruko knives and its got a fixed handle could you do a review of it?

  • Love the tower of MTs at the end. Especially when it almost falls over. :)

  • My brother and I still carry the original leatherman as well as the wave for him and the supertool 300 for me

  • Excellent analysis.

  • I used the bottle opener on my S2 juice to open brews with the bros last week. People laughed at me for having a MT on me, but they pretty quickly started coming up to me asking "hey can I borrow your leatherman to open my beer?" lol. feels good to be the prepared one!

  • it would be awesome when ordering an mt is if you could have it put together according to what you need, like ordering a cheeseburger with bacon and no onions.

  • @prometheus19799791

Yeah seriously. That'd be awesome if Leatherman or Victorinox had a custom "multi-tool builder".

It always seems like certain multi-tools are always missing that 1 tool that you need, and if you want that 1 tool that's missing, you have to buy a different multi-tool, which of course has a completely different set of tools that you don't necessarily need.

  • the one thing that would be even more useful would be an outside accesible spring assisted bottle opener so everybody knows not to even bother reaching for one in my presence.

  • lol if you're drinking brews with the bros...that might be your most important tool. On a more serious note, nice video. It would have been greatly aided if you included some bad MT's and point out the difference. I received a MT as a gift ($10 heavy MT) and I can only use it as a glorified screwdriver since its bad at everything else. Damaged the wire cutters, dulled the saw, nothing locks on it, and the tools have a tendency to open up when using the pliers.

  • i have the longest shaft if u no wat i mean thumbs up if you like my comment

  • I use the caplifter the most, for drinking brews with the bros as Mr. Nutnfancy says. :)

  • long but good vid man

  • I tried myself to understand what kind of "POU" of a MT. That failed. So I turned to this video clip for the right information.

  • I carry every day knife or a mt,,24hours acess!

  • well done video!

  • @39:00 a leaning tower of multi-tools! ha ha

  • so where do we carry our tools? Just my personal way fyi: :)

got a LM squirt on my keychain.......always on the person. Got a Charge TTI on my messenger bag......often on me...and I wear a LM sideclip (retired) in my motorbike jacket. Hardly a moment without a MT, and that is because somehow I feel, I don't ever want to be in a situation where I regret not having one on me,

  • On a different topic......I love leathermans...own a few; and planning on owning more :) but....what makes your videos interesting ...... is the absolute lack of "ehhh's.... "... awkward silences, stutters and "sorry, I meant..." ..

Just effective speach.....hardly anny errors or hickups, just a smooth presentation, and I don't think many people can match that... "off the top of their heads". so respect for that.

  • one thing i can think to mention: surge has more tools than the supertool, one of which is an interchangable bit driver... course, you can also get a bit extension if you really need to reach something far away...

  • To answer your question I don't leave the house without my leatherman surge on my belt. Its saved my bacon a number of times when I did not have a particular tool.

  • you should do a review on your charge al

  • @rusdoc88 veri is nutn's sister/ secretary

  • jenga!!!

  • stop that annoying muuuusic !!!!!

  • sog powerassist? yes or no? good or bad? get or dont get? ( i can get it for about 60. dont ask where. because most of you dont have access to it)

  • why the little strip of what looks like black tape on some of your mt's?

  • why do you have a piece of black tape on all your MTs?

  • for key chain carry wath do you think about an leatherman micra combined with an spyderco ladybug and an fenix e01 then I would be prepared for every TNP gear check

  • Swiss Tool just looks so... awkward, to me. No second kind of cool, I guess -- I think it's the full stainless and blockyness, same for the ST300, but not as bad.

  • Another home run!!!! Very informative and entertaining. Keepum coming.

  • Hey when are you gonna do a review on the MUT

  • Hey nutn. Do you think you could do a reveiw of the Leatherman Skeletool?

  • @9azzao I second!

  • A lot of great points!

    Awesome video dude!

  • you purchased that leatherman in 92, some time around that time, I was born.....

  • This is easily one of nutn's best table-top style vids.

  • the best multie tool is the one you carry

  • i think every guy should have a multitool in his vehicle and/or vehicle at the least, i am trying to decide if im going to get the juice s2 for pocket carry and then buy a full sized or to go in between and get the new sidekick and blend them.

  • @Troop66Guide i got an s2 about 2 months ago and it fits right in my little 5th (change) pocket and its great i use it for a ton of little things. but you do feel it flex a bit when using the pliers hard. if you plan on using it hard ide go for something more heavy duty. but if you getting 2 you should be fine. i plan on getting a wave to go with my s2

  • @bstjames1611 yeh i have a geber suspension for a hdmt right now and im tryin to figure out which one i want now, the small pocket multitool or the medium pocket or belt multitool

  • I ALWAYS carry my SwissTool (a very old one) and I (personally) do not find it too heavy or bulky. BUT: I live in Germany, so I don't carry a gun with me. If I was I propably would opt for something smaller and lighter.

The Gerber Flik defenetly loocks "second kind of cool" to me but... one hand blade :( not legal to CARRY in Germany.

  • Why the black tape? My favourite LDMT is a skeletool

  • Ha ha ha, named me out as an electrician I was about to say I have most of all that on me daily.

  • my leatherman wave is my edc knife it is great

  • Cool... I didn't realize you could replace the wire cutter blades on the Wave. Hmm... I might seriously have to consider getting one now.

  • Hank Hill from king of the hill busted out a multi tool and saved a mans life with it. Ask yourself what would Hank hill do?

  • I like the bubble on the scissors. You anticipated that one right on queue.... I used to be totally anti multitool because this seem so clunky. I was die hard swiss army. I am thinking the Wave and CS4. I need a saw and scissors with all the standard stuff. CS4 seems the best for EDC. I did see a Coast at REI that looked good BUT it was way too thick in my opinion.

  • I like the bubble on the scissors. You anticipated that one right on queue.

  • I got a leatherman skeletool cx becuz its an amazing survival tool. i doesent have like a 100 tools, it got 7 uses but in a survival situation or when ur camping u dont need that many screwdrivers and other tools like that. so i recomand that tool to anybody that likes multi tools

  • we can tell you have many multi-tools just off camera lol. Great vid though.

How about laying all your MTs on a table by categories, then telling us your opinions of them. a sort of multi tool showdown...

  • Squirt ES4, every day.

  • Squirt ES4 - every day.

  • thats what she said at 31:21

  • Am I the only one who thinks that current MTs somehow are built too much around their pliers? I mean, pliers are a very important tool, but i often come to realize that pliers are about the last thing I could need. There are no MTs I know of that are able to replace a hammer, a drill or other basic tools. Isn't it time for something really new and innovative?

  • Nice video, you're the only guy I know that can get this in depth of philosophy for anything! I have the Leatherman PST II, as well as the Leatherman Charge ALX tool, which I just sent in for repair as I snapped off the eyeglass screwdriver (Bogus!). Awesome tools though.

  • hey, great vid, great info, keep it up, but i have a random question, why is there black tape on a lot of your tools?

  • Two Leatherman sheaths sit on my belt on my left hip.

The first one holds my Leatherman Charge TTi, Leatherman S2 flashlight and a 200 mW green laser.

The second one holds the 40 bit driver set from Leatherman. EDC man. Always, always, always.

And weight is not an issue. I hardly notice them.

  • Thanks for giving us a framework for comparing and discussing multi-tools. You're truly the Mendeleev of multi-tools.

  • The original Multi-Tool was a hybrid, Taken from the Swiss penknife idea, People traveling by car etc.. wanted their pack of motoring useful tools combined like the Swiss penknife, That`s why the tool selection is based for roadside motoring, But I think now in the modern world, The Multi-Tool has started to take over from the Swiss Army knife.

  • I blame nutnfancy for the MT continuum

  • Awesome videos and commentary!

Of course you know this and it is additional carry but there is the bit extension for the Leatherman Charge MT (and others).

  • I wonder what he talks about for the other 35 min...

  • do you have a leatherman kick? if so, will you please do a reveiw on it?

  • Hello Nutnfancy! I like your channel very much, good job :)

I have something in mind which troubles me for quite a long time which I like to ask for your comment. I wonder if the blade on a MT, say the 154CM blade on the Leatherman Charge, double its role as an EDC knife

  • I have a buddy who's birthday is this weekend and is a backpacking nut like me... who's got a $3 MT (drop it and it would break into a million pieces). So I say to myself "Self, your friend needs a decent middle of the road MT to really start out..where should you go for advice?" NUTNFANCY OF COURSE! So after watching this and taking things into consideration, I got him a middle of the road Leatherman Fuse. Not too shabby for $39 and it's heads above what he has now.

    Thanks again Nutn. You rock!

  • BTW, when are you going to review the Leatherman MUT??

  • Dude, a MASSIVE thanks to your video here! helped me a lot choosing between them!

  • Kudos to you Sir on producing what has the be the MOST informative video on Youtube regarding the subject of Multitools! I have viewed a number of your videos in the past but just came upon this one today, and I congratulate you on your ability to relay information in a direct yet entertaining way, all the while keeping the viewer's interest, seemingly knowing ahead of time what each viewer may be questioning in his/her mind. So Thank You again and please keep up the excellent work you are doing

  • i carry a subcompact gerber shortcut great mt

  • I carry those things EVERYWHERE.

  • what do u categorize the victorinox swiss champion as? thats my edc multitool

  • I watched this vid like 7 times, such a great video

  • @KalConduitman

I totally agree, has to be one of Youtube's BEST!

  • Thanks a lot for this review. I've been considering of adding a multitool to my EDC, and this was a very good introduction to learn what to consider. I'm able to make a more informed choice after watching this!

  • why do you put tape on your knives?

  • Comment removed

  • aww i was looking for tool the band!!

  • Dude, thank you. Your reviews and information led to my purchase of my first multi tool, the awesome Leatherman Surge. Keep em comin.

  • My ultimate multitool would be a LM Charge with the SOG Compound Leverage gearing. That would be SOOOOO cool!

  • I carry the Leatherman Micra. It may be small but the scissors for me are the most important tool in my daily life. My philosophy is that the best tool for the job is the one that suits your needs. And the Micra is the tool that suits my needs.

  • @chipmunksoi I Funny because last christmas I asked my wife for a nice "Leatherman", and that's all that I said, thinking I was going to open a Wave or Core, but there in my stocking was a Micra. I said, "What the hell is this"? I have it on my keychain and I use it all the time. I love it.

  • I think you were right to weigh only the sheath; especially since many multi tools have several pouch options, and some people may intergrate their MT into another system; i.e a pistol mag pouch or whatever. By the way, I am still alive :)

  • oh Great Multi-tool Guru where is your holy multi-tool temple..so us commoners, can visit and give offerings of multi-tool praise......lol

  • dude u kno thos pliars u use for fishing and the one u said u woulden't carry well i do =) lol thumb up if u do to.

  • you should make just a quick video showing just how many guns, knives, tools and gear you actually own. I'd love to see it.

  • @bigchocol8te Security issue... It would be cool though. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy Just wondering but what do you mean it is a security issue?

  • @Bassman018 Kinda like when you have a pocketful of money, you don't want to take it out and count it in front of a large group of people. ;)

  • @Verilioness Ohhh I gotcha, just curious about what you meant.

  • @nutnfancy why is it a security issue if we don't even know where you live? Just curious; I'm probably missing something.

  • Comment removed

  • @bigchocol8te even if he did make that video , i dout it would b quick , way to much stuff

  • @bigchocol8te And it seems that anyone who tries to see, will die of lead poisoning and dog bites...

  • @bigchocol8te the video would be too long.. but nice

  • Right tool for the job. Good advice.

What i would like to see is a skeletool with a flip out saw (same setup as the knife blade), as well as a pair of scissors.

Lastly i would like to see the wire cutters & strippers part of the multitools to be made of hardened carbon steel instead of stainless or as with leatherman the replaceable carbide teeth.

  • Being an 18 year old kid, I generally don't carry an MT on me unless I know there's a good chance I'll need it. I just don't use it on day to day tasks, so I usually carry just a knife. The reason is, well my days usually consist of hanging out with friends, going to the mall etc and those places aren't really an MT's calling lol. However, I do use mine at work all the time (army reserves).

  • I can't believe I watched a 40 minute video on youtube about multitools. Keep it up, 'Fancy.

  • Nutn, check out the leatherman Wave! 30 bucks with Tax included at Home Depot!

  • i cant decide between the leatherman charge or wave. i compared the 2 and see many similarities, but still....

  • i know i am an anomaly (and i know i cant spell) however i almost alway have a full size multi tool on my belt

once i was paintballing and someone was teasing me about it.

Then his gun broke and i fixed it with the tool

i will always carry a full size mt its just one more slot on the belt and you cant beat the convience

  • wat do u need a file for?

  • @bulldogsfan5953 you need a file to file things.

  • excelente video, i am an electrician and i carry a gerber legend all day long, for the last 3 years... Carry a MT is really awsome... is independence in your belt/pocket..

  • if i have blade play on my charge tti can i send it to leatherman to get fixed and is the charge al good

  • Great mt basics the weight is key i'm finding out the leatherman 300 rides in the clip pocket in my 5-11 pants and i notice its weight so i may downsize to a smaller tool for my edc option and find another spot for the 300 tool..I.E dirt bike etc. Thanks for the education it saves people money if they pay attention to use and weight...Be Safe

  • I know you dig sissors and thats why you recommend the Juice S2.... However, i also carry a Leatherman Juice, however mine is the Juice KF4.. It was discontinued by leatherman for god only knows what reason... It lacks the sissor, however im a mechanic and for me, i traded that for getting a diamond file, saw, phillips, three flats,an awl,and two knife blades.... IMO it was the best Juice model ever made and i wish Leatherman would bring it back.

  • I'm 15 I live in Canada and I carry the Gerber Suspension around with me and it continually comes in handy.

  • @pugzlie18 carried that EDC for over a year, untill it fell out of the poorly velcroed sheath hiking. Its remarkably heavy for the capabilities it has, i just bought the Leatherman Surge in Black Oxide. Its a decent strong tool. I'v found leathermans with much more capabilities with same or even less weight. Anyhow, enjoy! and make sure to be careful about that sheath!

  • @Golemzzz yeah its heavy but I break a lot of things so for me having a heavy multitool gives me reassurance that I can be rough with it and not break it. and also the sheath hans really given me problems but the velcro is wearing a bit, and the capabilities the suspension has are perfect for me because I do landscaping for my moms businesses and almost all of the tools get used at some time or another

  • cant you get the extension for the screwdriver for the charge

  • i carry a leatherman wave every day and love it i use it every day as a citizen

  • SwissTool is PRO ;)

  • Hank Hill of King of the Hill broke out a multi-tool and saved a mans life with it. Ask yourself "what would Hank do?" and carry a multi-tool.

  • NutnFancy how about a review of the "Leatherman Knife Accessories Universal Tool Adapter". I mentioned this because you had pointed out how you like the interchangeable bit system, but liked the swiss longer driver bits over the leatherman's

  • hey im going camping what multi tool do you recomend

  • ecam200, can you do reviews on the Leatherman MUT Utility and EOD when they come out? Great vids as always.

  • After watching Nutinfancy - I did not know I needed a gun so I bought a SW,I did not know I needed an MT now I have a Leatherman.....Whats next MrNutinfancy?

  • Great video Nutnfancy. Have you checked out the new Gerber Strata and Octane yet. If so I would like to know your opinion on them. They seem to be an improvement on Gerber's usual design.

  • the correction was unnessesary, 154cm is steel and steel is iron carbide or iron and carbon. Good vid btw!

  • i named my hampster dudette. strange

  • i just wish the s2 juice had a serrated blade

  • as viticulturists, multi-tools are our most sought-after tools at any time outside. Grafting, cutting, weeding, sawing, clamping...they do it all. Thanks for doing them justice with this great vid!

  • you should do a review on a buck knives multi tool

  • got my leatherman wave, love it

  • Cool vid with lots of helpful informantion. I always have a multi-tool on me no matter where I am. Just a good multi purpose tool. I like to carry the bigger ones myself.

  • my grandpa carrys the squrit p4

  • Thats alot of MT you have there nut its great i love them all man. I need to invest in one i need to use them almost everyday. getting one soon man! Thanks for the video nut it helps!

  • i kept laughing when he said longer shaft

  • My favorite nutn video by far. Great job sir.

  • First multitool i ever owned i found on the ground, on a cf base, it was a black gerber issue tool that was all seized up because it had been sitting there all winter, i found it but another guy tried to take it but i got it in the end. It served me well.

  • 1992 I was born then.

  • Nutnfancy do you have the letherman charge alx? If not it is an amazing tool that you should buy

  • @jblucchi2 What video were you watching? Leatherman Charge al was a feature thoughout the vid.

  • Yes I do, and as groarty mentioned it was in the vid. Thanks.

  • grat

  • Great video! This helped a lot when deciding on a multitool.

  • I bought a juice s2 and love it. One problem. When i use my fingernail to open one of the flat head screw drivers; It digs/jabs into the top of my thumb (its like an annoying hurt) You just have to watch how you open the flat heads. Other than that. I use it at work to torch off melted plastic from parts such as washers, screws etc. It distributes heat very nicely. You can sit there and torch the needle nose and the metal in your hand won't even get hot. Fantastic!!!!

  • why would you need a file

  • Lots of reasons...

File a burr, a hook, shave down some metal, plastic or wood for some reason.

    You name it.

  • Sir, You forgot knife/axe/saw sharpening option (not all files can but some can do that)

  • True, but where I said "You name it" was meant to cover anything that the file could work on, including knife/axe/saw. Shaving metal covers sharpening, anyway. I wouldn't buy or not buy a multi-tool based on if it had a file, but in an emergency...... might not be bad to have that option.

  • Better to have as much different tools as possible.

  • Amalgamating - To combine into a unified or integrated whole.

  • hay nutnfancy why do you disable ratings on all of your older vids

  • I have one of the original Gerber multi-tools. It is over 10 years old. I've used it as a hammer and beaten the crap out of it, and it is still not broken and fully functional. It has never been replaced because I don't need a replacement. I'm not sure if the new ones are built so well, but I love the one I have!

  • ha ha i am a bad guy and i just saw your gear review mu-ha-ha

  • respect fot that video men, many thanks

  • u are the best!!! i cant stop watchin your vids brotha!!!! merry christmas to u are yours!! hope u have a killa christmas!!!

  • Great video. Very informative and clear-thinking!

  • I will get one of those Victorinox in my next trip to Switzerland,or maybe two!!Since i will use them on my off-road enduro motorbikes the smaller/lighter the better!!Thanks for your reviews from Portugal.Nuno.

  • these videos are so awesome... i really never thought of buying a gun, knife, or multitool before, but every since I saw the glock mod featured videos, I've been using these videos as awesome references. Now I'm addicted in collecting the stuff nutnfancy reviews!

  • "these videos are so awesome... I've been using these videos as awesome references. Now I'm addicted in collecting the stuff nutnfancy reviews!" Thanks dude for saying so and truly one of my main purposes is to be a buyers' advocate and hopefully good information source on all this cool stuff. It's fun discussing and collecting too! Very grateful to all the good dudes who chime in here, peace.

  • I got one of those back in '92 as well!! Ha! I keep mine in my safe. It is still a great tool! And it may be a collectable one day. Hold on to that tool. I have an expensive SOG that is good, but I have mixed feelings about.. Good review.

  • this was posted 4 days before my b-day i saw your comment od ipodtouchmaster06's channel that you posted 6 hrs ago

like it ima have a big come back

  • what do u think of the leatherman core

  • "what do u think of the leatherman core" Good HD MT and strong. Watch my just-posted LM SuperTool 300 vid for some info on it. The Core isn't any lighter than the ST 300 and has an inferior plier head, rest is the same. I'd prefer the ST 300.

  • You really have to understand the concept of "duty cycle". It means the amount of use you can get from a tool in it's lifetime before it wears out of breaks.

From my personal experience, you really want the models with the locking blades.

My personal preference is for the Leatherman Super tool. The blades lock open and you've got a stronger frame and jaws...

  • Excellent vid as always feller!

Had my eye on the Vic Swisstool for a whille now, but my general MT's tend to be the ultralights - Squirt P4, Gerber Artifact (Does that count?), Swiss Army Knives, Utilikey etc. I also have the Gerber Suspension, but I'm not too impressed with weight / performance ratio. Wish I'd done more research before falling for the lattice work handles.

I think I might need to have a little word with Santa about one of those Big Vic's!!

Keep up the good work Nutn

  • "... my general MT's tend to be the ultralights - Squirt P4, Gerber Artifact (Does that count?), Swiss Army Knives, Utilikey etc...but I'm not too impressed with weight / performance ratio.,,Keep up the good work Nutn" Yes the Ultralights and Light Duty MTs are our most used b. we most often have them with us. Utility suffers as you note however. My fav is still the Juice S2. Thanks for the good comment (so many on this video!).

  • Could you do a video on ALL of your multi tools? That would be cool.

  • wtf im as old as the first multi-tool

  • Dude...all your tools are clean!!

  • Leatherman sells a 3.25" Bit Driver Extender. It's 12 dollars on Leathermans site.

  • Thanks for a great foundational video Nutn!

  • I came across a SOG Powerlock for a steal in my local classifieds. Paid $20 for it in brand new condition. Thought it was a bit heavy for me at the time, but for the price I couldn't pass it up. Have carried it everyday since, and even those around me have come to expect it to be available when they need it. Once you start carrying a MT, you'll never go without one.

  • loving the vid nutn. being a multitool freak like yourself, i know how useful they are. recently acquired the swiss tool spirit and i have to say ( although i am a religious leatherman user) i love it but i wont carry it because of the "over complexity" of the main blade. it sucks. why cant victorinox just put those regularkick ass pen blades on em....they are trying to fix what isn't broken. shame. keep up the good work nutn!

  • The X model of the Swisstool Spirit comes with the pen blade rather than the funky blade of the regular model.

  • In my truck I always keep my toolbox handy thru out the years.... I cannot tell you how many people I have helped with those tools on the road or just simply going to a friends house. I do however always carry a multi tool also :)

  • I'm only 14, but I carry an MT and keep a toolbox in my truck, too! In your years of experience, what have you found are some of the more important tools to keep in your truck? Thanks!

  • Don't mean to butt in here, but a friend here on YouTube has a great video of gear he keeps in his truck for winter months. Just a GREAT video and although its not "tools" per se, it has the potential to save lives. Look up "USNERDOC Winter Box" here on Youtube. Outstanding, informative and educational. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)
