  • I followed your instruction perfectly but I cannot transfer my mp4 videos to my PC. Any ideas? I can see the files on my mac, and all the folders but it will not allow me to transfer the files.

  • THANKS BRO!! I connected my Macbook Pro to my Windows 7 comp at work!! Works like a bloody charm!

  • I got a mac, its so ridiculous that it wont install software unless I make and create an admin account. It wont play my MP3's and wont get on my network. PC is easy, Mac is weird, hard, hard hard to make work.

  • thanx a bunch. everyone else's tutorials sucked and got me no were. this was perferct :D

  • Great! Worked exactly as you described, other tutorials got me close, but this was perfect. Thank you so much!

  • Thnxx mate!! dat worked for me, after 5 hours of unproductive hardwork!! :) :)

  • hmmm, i tried it your way first, didn't work. then i tried using the IPv4 address ipconfig gave me in the command prompt, but that doesn't seem to be working either. any ideas?

  • thanks!

  • Thank you so much! spent bloody ages try to figure out how to do this thru Microsoft and Apple websites

  • thanks for the help, works like a charm. Two questions 1. how secure is it? are other computers within my network that dont belong to me are able to connect without my knowing?. 2. how would u go about disconnecting the two computers from each other?

im not a tech savvy person, so this all knida new to me.

  • Thanks alot, I was struggeling with this till I found your vid. So thanks!!

  • That was great, worked perfectly for me! Only hiccup was that I had to use the IP address of my PC. Thanks for posting.

  • AMAZING !!!! WEEKS OF TRYING AND FINALLY I SEE THIS VIDEO . PERFCECT. you are the best

  • you are amazing! been trying to figure this out for a while. bar far the best video! thanks

  • thanksssssssssssssss

  • how do i use the PC to connect to the MAC ... opposite of what you did in the video

  • man thank u so muchhhhh :D

  • how to do view files from the mac on the pc because i can only view the files from the pc on the mac

  • Thanks. Worked perfectly!!!

  • THANK YOU!!!!! OMGGGGKJGFJAGJFGAJWGFD! Yes.

  • WORKED FOR ME! THANKS!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you so much! First time mac user here and I was easily able to move everything. Great video! :D

  • What a huge help! THANK YOU! My home network only allows connection by computers with known MAC addresses, so I'm unconcerned about the Guest login, as described. Perfectly safe. If your network isn't that buttoned down, suggest that officialtrash is right and using username/password is the better setup.

  • Brilliant video!

  • Thank you so much!

  • Whoa! Share with "guest," no password...? Only do this if your Win machine is on a trusted LAN. Otherwise, forgo adding Guest and just login with your name and password. That is much more secure. Ack!

  • great stuff mate, thanks a bunch very clear

  • thank u

  • thanks!

  • Thank you so much! :D

  • Thanks dude! I'm in like Flynn! (Tron reference haha)

  • Thanks a ton! I spent hours trying to figure this out on my own. Very helpful how-to

  • Thank you very much, this video helped me out!

  • Helped me get rid of worthless mac my mom was using YAY!

  • Good job! Thanks!

  • Very clear guide, thank you!

  • Two questions: 1) Can the Windows pc see Mac files and vice versa? This is what I need. Like a common directory. 2) How secure is this? I need a way to do this securely so a friend and I can share just a certain file folder and ONLY see each other's files when they are in that folder.

  • @PhotographyByTina Yes it can. since its over the network its only dealing with the files. not the file system so it will read and write both ways.

  • @PhotographyByTina its secure enough. only people that know your server address can use it and unless you tell them they wont know it so yeah. its as secure as you make it.

  • @MrGizmo757. Thanks buddy. Clear and easy to follow.

  • It's not working for me!!

I've tried everything twice and it keeps telling me Connection Failed - Server may not exist or is not operational at this time.

    Please help!

  • @vaagec try using the computers i.p. address instead of the username. type ipconfig into the windows command prompt to find out what your ip is.

  • @MrGizmo757 hi there. ive tried both the user name and ip and i get the same error. any suggestions?

  • @BillyWHU15 try close your firewall both from windows and security software.

  • Thanks a lot!

  • I love you, have my children you fucking sexy computer man. I love you, for reals I can now move all my music! Thank you I love you you're the best. Ever. I love you.

    Send me email vik.vikki@gmail.com

    Best Regards,

  • That rocked so much! Thank you! I accidentally logged onto my user, instead of the "guest" that we created in the home group. How can I correct this?

    Thanks,

  • @abbazaba35 just log out and enter your user name as guest and that should do it. but if its still working the way you have it then i wouldn't bother with it.

  • I have been trying to do this for about 3 months. Thank you SO MUCH!!!! It worked fantastically!! I don't suppose you know how to make all the .MOD files from my old computer work on my mac do you? :D :D :D Thanks again!!:D

  • MAN u dont know how many times I tried to connect my macbook pro and my desktop and get it to work as a server. finally i copied all the documents over to my laptop more than 30GB.. this helped me a lot man, made EVERYTHING real easy. really appreciate ur work buddy :)))) if i see you i would give u $100 just for this.

  • Thanks for the tutorial. I was able to access my Windows files to our Mac. But how can I transfer my Mac files to my Windows?

  • Without the use of "homegroup", to accessing windows 7 with my iMac, simply click the start button, type in "credentials", select "credentials manager". You then click "Add Windows Credentials". In the domain box, enter the computer's name to which you wish to allow access. As far as the username and password, the do not have to be specific to the account, any will do. On this Win 7 laptop, I added credentials for a Win 7 AIO and my iMac (Lion). Both machine can access this one.

  • Thank you so much, this was a great help

  • Thank you so much for this helpful tutorial! It helped me get my wife's PC and my Mac connected in less than 5 minutes! Now we can toss files back and forth on the fly when we're working on projects or want to share music & photos. Awesome!

  • Amazing tutorial. Thank you so much for posting!

  • I truly appreciate you taking the time to do this for us. I've been using a Mac for about 5 years because my PC went out and I needed a Mac for school, but I've currently built a PC for hardcore BF3 (; so I needed to transfer some files over that were pretty big and I wasn't going to waste CDs. I doubt I'll look back, this PC is too amazing. Thank you again my friend.

  • thanks so much! but how can i transfer the pictures permanently to my new imac? just copy and paste one by one? or any easier way?

  • thanks!

  • I love your video instruction. I made it. Very helpful. Thank you very much!

    -First time connector

  • thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

  • Thank you for making this so straight forward and easy to follow. Thanks again!

  • YOU´RE THE BEST!

  • Got Lion, and just connecting to previously created homegroup via Finder doesn't work. I tried your solution, which is working, however now my files are completly unprotected and i'm afraid of this. Any way to enable sharing without turning "sharing with password" off..?

  • This was such a beast tutorial. You should do an update as now we're in Lion 10.7.1 and an updated W7 build. Either way, thank you very much!

  • @SpawnTrapPodcast Lion is to simple to need a video. you created a Homegroup in windows 7. it will automatically show up in the Finder in Lion. it cant get any simpler then that. :-)

  • Thanks so much for this! I was scrolling through pages of help files on windows help site and this short video sorted me out in less than 10 minutes - fantastic!

  • friggin genius. thanks

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH. I was trying to follow some different instructions from apple's website and this was the only way I could actually make it work. thank you!!!

  • i f just sine in over the network

  • Thank you... Thank you... THANK YOU!

Your tutorial provided details that many other webpages omitted.

  • worked great just like you said thanks

  • Finally!! someone with a brain explains the correct way to share mac and win7... well done!

  • your youtube tutorial >>> google search tutorials

    thanks!

  • Thanks! Super helpful!!! The fact that you sound identical to Woody Harrelson when he played Larry Flynt (People vs Larry Flynt) was very hard to ignore as I followed along! Hilarious! =)

  • Great video tutorial! but is there any other way of getting to the window at 3:34 without right clicking on My Documents. it won't give me the option to "share with specific people". that step seems to be the only step in my way.

  • Thankyou very much - nice and easy to follow - all connected up!

    Kindest regards

  • I was trying this but it didn't work... I checked my Firewall (PC TOOLS FIREWALL PLUS) and I turned it off. That was helping me:) So maybe you can type that in your red balloon; 'If it fails... Try to turn off your firewall or type in your ip adres'.

    Thnx a lot!

  • Thank you!! Exactly what I was looking for.

  • Thank you !! Hassle-free, all worked well. I appreciate it, keep uploading

    Kind regards

  • Thank you!!!! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for.

  • Thanks man! This helped!

  • So you can see the windows files in mac but how do you see mac files in windows?

  • Hey MR. Gizmo sometimes I cannot connect to my pc. most of the time it goes through but sometimes it doesn't. Would you know why that may be?

    Thanks so much

  • Alright, got it to work~ Thanks dude!

  • Yea! it works , thank you Amigo !

  • Thanks a lot. Forgot the part about individually sharing the folders. Works great. 10/10

  • Great video! Worked perfectly! Thanks!

  • The above video was for file sharing but there's a point I wanted to ask. I haven't been able to run my internet data card on MacBook Pro because of incompatibility of drivers.

The data card connects via USB to Windows machine. After this, if I connect MacBook and PC via Lan, then can I share the internet between these two to use internet on Mac?

The above method applies to that too?

  • @gamingventure No only file sharing. to share an internet connection you have to set up an internet share port in windows. i never had the need to do that so i do not know how. check a Google search you might find something.

  • I tried to connect my MacBook Pro 10.6.7 with my Windows 7 machine. On typing this, "smb://Home@Home-PC/Users" and clikcing on Connect, I get a prompt saying Connection failed. The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check you network connection and then try again.

I checked and the Lan cable between two is connected fine. About the rest, I really do not know. How do I go by this now?

  • @gamingventure Replace the name of the PC with the local IP address of the PC. just type ipconfig in windows command prompt to find out that the ip is. and make sure its coorect. smb://user@name of pc/users or smb://user@ ipaddress/users

  • Thank you!

  • Thanks! Very helpful! straight to the point!

  • Interesting. For me, after turning off Password-Protected Sharing, I was able to connect.

  • Thanks for making this tutorial. That was very helpful. (Thumbs up)

  • Great video! Thank you!

  • thank you

  • Excellent instructions! Very easy to follow.

  • worked like a charm at first. Moments later, the Mac computers disappeared from my network "neighborhood" in Windows 7 and I haven't been able to get them back in. Any ideas?

  • @ragnarocking

btw, I can still see the Win7 machine on the sidebar of any Finder window on the Mac. It's just the reverse that isn't happening.

  • I have been searching for a way to do this for months. Your video helped me to set up the connection in a very short time. Thanks !!

  • Thanks bro, much easier than using my external hard disc, way too lazy lol :D

  • Fantastic and got me there and having read all the articles your solution was a God send!!!!!!

  • Brilliant! When I first got my Win7 machine, I struggled for an answer, then gave up trying to network with my Mac. Then, I stumbled on your video and PRESTO! Thank you!

  • Thank you SOOO much! Your guide was the only one that would work for me. Great work :)

  • Thanks for the vid! Its sad that there's ~67k viewers, meaning its not intuitive AT ALL. Fucking windows FTL as usual.

  • This was really helpful, but how do I view Mac properties on my Windows 7 PC?

  • THANKS SO MUCH!!!!

Curious how safe this is? Can my neighbors see my files?

  • This worked for me after much frustration via other avenues of information! Thank you for this clear, easily followed tutorial. I am a Mac-using graphic artist who can kick your ass in Photoshop, but I have ZERO skills in configuring! Thanks again.

  • Really nice man! I'm trying to connect Ubuntu and windows 7 over LAN, I can't afford a MacBook haha I'm 14

  • @wachuneed Sweet! for ubuntu use Samba incase you didn't already know that. if you Like KDE i just switched to Pardus2011. Best KDE distro out there. Limited repositories though. :-( Ubutnu 11.04 with unity is Nice on Netbooks i don't particularly like it on A desktop Machine though. i am doing a video now on how to install Linux including ubuntu from a usb flash drive. good to know if you own a netbook. :-) it should be uploaded sometime tomorrow so stay tuned :-)

  • @MrGizmo757 Thanks,i had samba on my wireless network BAD IDEA haha my network is really slow..i run 10.10 at the time.. i can use samba for a wired connection?

  • @MrGizmo757 What do you develop? i actually develop for android in Ubuntu:)

  • Can't create a home group with Win7 starter -.-

  • TY!

  • Brilliant video, best guide I've seen on the internet on how to do this, However, followed it exactly and got the following message:

'There was an error connecting to the server “win7-hp”. Check the server name or IP address, and then try again.

If you are unable to resolve the problem contact your system administrator."

Not sure if I'm missing something obvious but I've been unable to resolve it. XP computers have all connected without issue.

  • Well sir... you're actually a genius =) Thank you very much for explaining so nicely how to do this, was struggling a bit since upgrading from XP. *high 5*

  • @shadowoftheredrose Thanx! Luckily in OS X Lion that is coming out in a few months This is all handled automatically so that's something to look forward to if you choose to upgrade. :-) I have a prereleased copy of Lion it already works in the Beta. They still haven't got Printer sharing quite right yet. but you can refer to Part 2 of this video for that if they don't get that right by release Time. But i think they will. it was a simple SMB: protocol config. error. Very easy to correct.

  • grandioso, great help.
