I’ve never seen a Finger Picker guitarist I thought could surpass the late Chet Atkins and the legendary Tommy Emmanuel, but that was before I’d seen a nineteen year old Aussie kid called Joe Robinson belting out a tune he’d composed called ‘Daddy Longlicks’.
@syncopater999 Come on man, I beg to diff, you only need to look this arrangement of Daddy Longlicks on a sheet to see how complex and clever it is. An accomplished pianist would struggle to play it with two hands, never mind a guitarist.
@GoodbarUK This tune is a tribute to the late Jerry Reed's playing and it shows. Joe would be the first to recognise that, even though he is technically a very good guitarist , he still has a way to go if he is to surpass his idols like Jerry Reed whose compositions are revered by acoustic guitarist the world over. I love Joe's original tunes myself and in time he may become even better than he already is.
@syncopater999 Well at Nineteen of course he's going to get better than he already is, but you could still benchmark him now as one of the finest. BUT! tek yer point :o)
I think you were a bit stressed at the beginning, weren't you ? :) I know- playing live is harder than recording. But what with this audience? Why were they so stiff !
i really like him and his playing

Someone give him an electric guitar and get him into a metal band - STAT!

I will probably never pick up a guitar again as long as I live. ;-) He still has a few rough edges, but what a headstart he's got.

This kid lends new meaning to the term "complete disbelief".

This not the "Daddy Longlicks" that Joe plays when he appears on
Lee Ritenours Six String Theory - that's because they got the name wrong. The tune on that CD is actually "Its Not Easy". Strange that.
