I went to a party and 4 boys challenged my cousin to a fight in the jumper and I had to help him (that was a long time ago) and yesterday I saw them and they didn't recognize me until it was half way through the day LOL and I don't want to fight with them cause they're my cousins. what should I do?
@tkzubaran true but over simplification lets you connect subjects on a more broad scale and some times the most obvious ideas are the best ideas because their obvious to anyone. Think of all the time you waste being annoyed by simple things, imagine if you didnt let it sadden you but inspire you to fix it. Simple thoughts come from deep understanding.
@NIBIRUXXX2012 God and Christianity isn't a matter of believing all the right stuff, it's a matter of making others feel important. Why would you enable friend lock? If your sole aim is help people feel better about themselves, to praise and inspire them to achieve happiness you'd welcome all.
You've inspired me to unblock every atheist. Let freedom reign. It's easy loving those who love us, what skill is there in that? It takes courage to help people who hate, to love them.
Agreed, societal changes influence the way people respond to certain behaviour. In certain cultures it is viewed as rude to look directly in the eyes of your opposite. This is quite understandable. People who look down are often regarded as shy and weak while a person who keeps eye contact is probably a person with high self esteem. The reaction to this behaviour may vary but i hold the opinion that some underlying basics remain the same in almost every culture in the world.
I don't think so, but I think he wrote for a generation that is long dead. His philosophy of enthusiastic interest in others was well composed for the society in which he lived, but does it work for the more cynical and self-centered people of today, who do not have such a positive vision of society and their own futures? Does Dale's enthusiam strike modern Americans as naive? Is a certain amount of indifference needed to influence the egotistical modern American?

@NonDramaZone: When I first read Carnegie's book i didnt realize that it has been written some decades ago because the lessons it teaches are timeless. Genuine interest in another person is important today as it was in Carnegie's days. The author does not create a formula on how to manipulate a special person but gives advise on how to influence any kind of man or woman by revealing a nature to you which is common to all human beings.
@MercutioEllings "When I first read Carnegie's book i didnt realize that it has been written some decades ago because the lessons it teaches are timeless. Genuine interest in another person is important today as it was in Carnegie's days." His devotees all say that, but this is a very different world, and I don't think the cynics of modern America are really capable of showing a genuine interest in others the way Carnegie says they should, and phony smiles, as he points out, get you no place.
@NonDramaZone: I would gladly discuss the part of the smiling with you because it seems you have put some thought into the topic. For now i want to concentrate on something more important: You pointed out twice that Carnegies advice could be obsolete due to the cynical character of modern Americans. But what changed since then? Did humanity evolve or did God change some of our genes (if you are Creationist)? Only society changed. To the better, just look at racism then and today.
@MercutioEllings "But what changed since then? Did humanity evolve or did God change some of our genes (if you are Creationist)? Only society changed. To the better, just look at racism then and today." Granted, but is societal change any less important? There was a time when Jews had no particular fear of swastikas, and when 'Hitler' was just an ordinary German surname. Societal changes made those things sinister. Why shouldn't other societal changes also be capable of far reaching effects?
@NonDramaZone For example: Carnegie stresses that every human being has the (often unsatified) need to feel important. Appealing to this feeling is a key element to win friends and influence people. A way to achieve this goal is showing genuine interest and positive reaction (like a smile) to him or her. So you feel that somebody who smiles at you wants something you have. Well, that may be the case: maybe this person wants you! Why should somebody have what i want just because he doesnt smile?
@MercutioEllings Don't misunderstand me, I am not saying that his philosophy should be junked. Aristotle believed that the stars were sentient beings that revolved perfectly to honor the creator, and that the brain was a cooling system for the head. Does this mean we should throw out all of the genuine advances that he gave us?
Same with Carnegie. He made some great advances in the field of communication, but not everything he gave us is timeless truth, and some revision may be needed.
@NonDramaZone You're one up on Steven Hawking and his opinion on philosophy, but Dale Carnegie is in a class by himself, always will be. Do you know how impossible it is to be that objective? It's like stigmata, your hands and feet develop little blood marks, your forehead and side also from a crown of thorns and spear, and then your soul lifts out of your body, and then one day you're body is found but you're not there anymore.
@MercutioEllings "...a certain event which fostered your repudiating view?" Nothing catastrophic, but people do seem very suspicious of a broad smile, even if it is meant in genuine friendliness (or maybe my smile just isn't very compelling), and they do seem less threatened by a slightly (note, I said SLIGHTLY) more aloof and cooler treatment.
There seems to be a feeling in the modern world that someone who smiles at me wants something I have, while someone who doesn't might have what I want?
Your personal philosophy is not not the greatest determining factor in how your life works out. CHANCE trumps all. Boy born with AIDS in war torn, plague and famine ravaged African country = F.U.C.T.
In relation to the topic of the video " How to win friends...", either isaac newton or albert einstein didn't have friends. Maybe because they made other people around them feel stupid. That could be the meaning of the words
Remember never gossip about others what they say ? Before, you say something negative always talk kind to others who treated each other in a social way ? It gets overwhelming
