  • It always looks like Paul Schaeffer is choking his chicken under the piano.

  • Banjos, the reason I feel proud to live in Kentucky

  • 0:30 is that the guy who used to be in Brookside ? and is that really Steve Martin playing... wow

  • So good! Only if it wasn't out of sync. T-T

  • Did Steve Martin and Paul Shaffer miss the recording day of this video? They're not in any of the group shots and the video is edited to look like they're playing with the rest of the band, but they're quite clearly playing on their own.

  • @clincharoo I thought it looked off too. It's clearly edited in.

  • how did i get in this part of youtube again??

  • заебись!респект!я обосрался от кайфа!видос нереально суперский!

  • I had to watch that 3 times!! Damn energy!

  • I punched my best friend right in the mouth when he said he hated this music. Stupid buttwipe..

  • Thumbs up for the best get-away music in history

  • Must. Stop. Pressing. REPLAY!!!

  • I told my kids the piano player is Santa and thats what he does after christmas

  • Does it appear to everyone else that Paul Schaffer and Steve Martin are not even there (with the group)--that their bits were recorded somewhere else??

  • ricky skaggs kentucky thunder watseka theatre watseka illinois friday august 26, 2011

  • wow

  • pause at 0:39 at the pianist... COUSIN ITT rocks!

  • @wrigglingaround - the guy at the piano is bald. Did Cousin Itt shave?

  • How do you wreck a great song? With a video like this, that's how! Give me the original any day...

  • @surfdude2000 - You've got a half-empty glass there, buddy. The hallmark of a truly great song is that everyone wants to play it, so it gets handed down for generations!

  • I guess 5 deaf people were on here

  • Who ever don't like this can suck one choke and die. I love this so damn much. Also while I am at it seeing as how its in the list of videos to the right of the screen I feel it's my right to say FUCK!!! Deliverance that ain't the true South that's just some backwoods shit hole in cali. Cali folk don't want to admit but they are raciest scum just look at rodney king, watts and all the other shit related to there raciest hate. They don't want to take blame so they blame the south, Fuck cali...

  • VERY GOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD !!!

  • when was this recorded?

  • At 1:18, is that William Lee Golden in the background?

  • @TVRM610 No, that's Leon Russell playing the organ.

  • Ok im sorry if I'm ignorant here.. But holy crap is that Steve Martin on the banjo?????

    It sure looks like him..

  • @FriedRiceGalore

Its none other. He does good huh? You'd never know he was into bluegrass by watching his movies. Ha

  • @FriedRiceGalore Yes, that most certainly is Steve Martin on the banjo.

  • Excellentissimo !

  • outstanding

  • one word....Wikid!!

  • My only complaint about this is how Leon isn't showcased when he plays. Each of these musicians gets some camera time at their solo, but he doesn't. Aside from that, this is fun to listen to and to watch.

  • The person who disliked this is the worst person ever.

  • They! All! Are! AWESOME!!!

  • I want to get this put on an alarm clock. WAKE UP EVERYBODY! I'm new to appreciating the banjo. In my crazed youth I was ignorant and did NOT understand the beauty of the banjo. I now understand - there is NO unhappiness in the sound of the Banjo. ONLY JOY - as this clip reveals. Than you very much Mr. Charlie Jazz! My pulse is now nearing 200!

  • Can't get much better than this!

  • lol the guy on the piano looks like the 6 flags geezer

  • @tubularniggaz - may I introduce you to the one and only Leon Russell? But I must agree - he now is looking a bit like father -time. Believe it or not tube, back in the day - Leon was HOT! All the girls wanted to sit next to him on the piano stool!!!

  • Wow! Just, wow!

  • You can tell by the expressions on their faces that this wonderful group of musicians are having a blast. How could anyone hear this song and not have a smile on their face?

  • Steve Martin is one of those famous people out there who just really deserves to be well known. He is an actor, a director, a screen writer, and talented banjo player, gotta hand it to him.

BTW, thanks for the upload, great, great song. Notice everyone is having a great time playing and really enjoying themselves, you just dont see that anymore.

  • how could they get all that talent in one room, WOW

  • i think i saw robin williams playing the banjo holy crap!!!!!!

  • This is first class - kick ass. I am a former musician of 27 years and I love this.

  • This is my ALL-TIME favorite video! 'nuff said!

  • 3:42 LOOOOOL im laughing for 20 minutes D: that's too lol

lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

  • That's pretty much perfect, kids.

  • the piano guys make me laugh

  • Fantastic !

  • This song make me want to learn how to play the banjo.

  • good thing steve martin was there to save the day!!!

  • STILL AN AWESOME SONG AND AWESOME PICKERS!

  • why is that bald guy from David Letterman on stage???????

  • @frmertd Paul Schaffer..he's great friends with Steve Martin and Earl scruggs, but he seriously is not needed with his piano version even though he's a good musician. He looks like he needs a large dose of immodium because he acts like he's trying to avoid a seriously heavy launch of liquid shit in 100 directions.

  • Acutally the 1st part of the video is OK but the sync goes wrong for some reason-as for the criticisms-Paul Shaeffer was ASKED by Earl as I recall if he would record this with the group....he has done some Nashville stuff in the past.

Grawfiddler- the guys are credited above so why are you saying Glen Duncan is Harry Stinson.

  • It's great to see so many people taking pleasure from actually playing instruments

  • Not a mic or a DI in sight - say no more!!!.

  • Why did they have the clown P. Shaffer on piano when Leon Russell is there?

  • i remember watchin this on tnn ! and GAC ! HAHAHA it real but it is off

  • the world is full of critics - just enjoy it, man - and fuck the criticism

  • Earl Scruggs sure knows how to choose his friends. I didn't know you could get so much talent on one stage.

  • lol at paul shaffer

  • too the ppl below me thats how it was recorded, i know because about 5 years ago i saw this, it inspired me too learn banjo now i play every instrument in this video im an accomplished banjo player and i teach lessons. it made me smile that i found this video :)

  • this is the best ive ever seen great music

  • For Steve Martin it was a chance to pay back.

  • yea...these guys they really can play...huh...

  • Where's Bela?!

  • if i am not mistaken that is leon Russell on the Elec. keyboard

  • @modoehunter Good eye. You read the description.

  • Greetings

    Awesome Video And Tune 5/5

    Patricia.

  • Hi Ove, thanks for sharing!super performance!5*

  • Yiiihhhaaaa....love it...

    Ove

  • quick dam thats fast ! nice one !

  • simply the greatest song ever wrote...

It doesnt get any better than that.

  • Absolutely amazing. Great performances from everyone!

  • absolutely brilliant, please don't knock it, you don't know what you're talking about

  • The Greatest is in the background - Love ya Leon

  • Albert Lee rules!!!

  • you would think paul shaffer was the star of the show with all his ridiculous movements. he's got some balls even touching a piano in the same room as leon russell.

  • the video is not a fake

but i dunno why youtube can't match it with the sound

  • @charliejazz Thats how they do all music videos like that, because theres no way to mic the instruments effectively in a setting like that and get the sound quality they have. and when most bluegrass musicians play a song, they dont play the same notes every time.

  • @flatpikinguitar I assure to you that the video I have is not out of sync like this.

but when I've uploaded it in youtube... it went crazy!

  • @flatpikinguitar I would like to acquire a copy of the original (uncommercialized) video and audio recording of this session along with private use license. Is there an option for me to get it?

  • I would like to acquire a non-commercialized copy of this session along with license for private use. Can you do?

  • @flatpikinguitar Rofl, you're out of your mind. By your statement, it's obvious that you aren't familiar with any of these musicians, and haven't heard any of their performances in the past. The person who changed the format of this clip and put it on youtube may have screwed up on the audio/video sync, but that was definitely a real performance.

  • @flatpikinguitar and fuck you too

  • @flatpikinguitar Earl Scruggs can play like this in his sleep. And so can Steve Martin. Yes, this is an original song posted over a video of the guys, but it is exactly how they do it on stage so what's the diff? People love to see a video with an original soundtrack so they throw these together in a few minutes. But every one of those fellows are "in sync", but I agree, not with the video.

  • @flatpikinguitar you have no brain at all

  • @flatpikinguitar I agree. There's no way this video was from a single take. A wide-angle close-up one moment and then a long-shot, no camera in sight. Very artificial. Compare the live recording example posted by Nekrophyliac

  • @flatpikinguitar that's how every band does a music video. music is recorded separately from the video 99% of the time

  • @flatpikinguitar its a video, it all depends on how good the editing is.

  • the sounds WAY off...

    ha...

    maybe its just my computer

  • dude on the keyboard rules, because i know hes stoned, and his beard is awesome

  • dude on the piano is freakin me out, isnt he from conan obrein

  • that is rock and roll legend leon russell on keys

  • that would be Paul Shaifer from the CBS Orchestra, on the David Letterman Show

  • lol earl is cool lol iv seen him havent meat him but i know jd crow lol hsahahaha i have guitar from im hahahahaha i whent to the jd crow fest this year but i know allot of bluegrass musicain's kentucky blue i know them to ...........................

  • yup....better bring your A game if your going to sit in with this bunch

  • fuckin a

  • Does anyone know where I can get the All Star Bluegrass celebration DVD? Earl Scruggs played with Travis Tritt, Albert Lee, Vince Gill and Ricky Scaggs on that DVD's version. Travis Tritt played the banjo, but I can't believe no one has put it on YouTube yet.

  • Amazing musicianship from everyone. I was really surprised to see Steve Martin in there. He rocks on that banjo. I hope he makes an album. He's a great comic, actor, writer, and musicianship. He can do anything he sets his mind too. I hope I can be cool like him when I'm his age. Or at least before I'm 30.

  • I meant to say musician. Sorry. When I talk about my heroes on here I get nervous and make errors.

  • Holy Shit!

I'll need to listen to Albert's solo a couple o' hundred times before I can pick my jaw up off the floor. Not to mention the amazing Vince Gill!!

    Wow.

  • Yeah I like Vince too. He plays banjo too. But the guitar is rock man!!!

  • the man with the long white hair and beard is the coolest guy i have ever seen!

  • Leon Russell.

Look 'im up at allmusic and learn something about the important contributors to American music.

  • I just read a review that said this song buckled under 10 guest pickers. What a moron. You can prefer the original, but if you can't recognize that it's something special when so many great musicians collaborate, you've got something wrong with you. This song is AMAZING. I love the new take.

  • Stuart Duncan on the snare drum -- the greatest fiddle player alive and he's on a snare drum -- hilarious ...

They butchered this song. The original still is the best.

  • nowone can beat the original foggy mountain version

  • @rawfiddler fuck you. this is still amazing

  • @rawfiddler I think that's Harry Stinson on drums. Longtime session guy, played on Steve Earle's "Guitar Town", was the house drummer on "American Music Shop" and is currently seen all over YouTube as the drummer in Marty Stuart's Fabulous Superlatives.

He and Duncan do favor each other (similar features and hair), but I'd wager a steak 'n' tater it's Harry Stinson.

  • they should do a viagra commercial with banjos

  • that is soooo bad ass thank you for posting!

  • thats some good azz pick'in

  • The sound doesn't match the video!

  • YouTube compression doesn't always synch up especially when the notes per second exceed the frame rate of the video after it's been compressed three times LOL.

If this had been a slow waltz you never would have noticed anything amiss!

  • Ah, yes. Bluegrass. ^_^
