Yes ALPA has almost the same structure as AFA. The problem is that ALPA defends and improves their contracts; AFA doesn't.
The pilots have gotten 2 raises since NWA came out of bankruptcy. Despite our me-too clause in LOA 35, AFA has failed to enforce the provision. Those two raises that we should have gotten could have made an NWA flight attendant $40,000-50,000 richer than they are today.
So you have to look beyond the structure and look at the union's performance.
Really? I should be ashamed? It doesn't strike you ironic that Pat Friend is no friend of flight attendants? That she is not even a flight attendant herself? That she stayed in office in violation of the AFA Constitution?
4Y83Z120401, you should be ashamed of yourself for your mindless post that shows a gross lack of historical perspective and failure to recognize the complete failure that AFA based on their own performance.
You asked "Do you have health, car, home owners insurance?"
Here's the difference: I am able to shop around and CHOOSE an insurance company THAT WORKS FOR ME. That's not the case with AFA and they are too selfish and greedy to allow any other union on the ballot.
AFA is like an insurance company that doesn't pay when you're in a car accident or in the hospital.. AFA has failed to live up to a SINGLE promise, and all YOU could point to was something the FORMER union did.
gaschambers1 - you are wrong. AFA did not protect our jobs against outsourcing. That was all done by the former union and decided by the bankruptcy judge before AFA was on the property. In fact AFA was RAIDING the NWA flight attendants AT THE VERY TIME THEY WERE FIGHTING TO PROTECT SCOPE.
You are the fool, gaschambers1. Getting your facts all wrong like that and spouting off so high and mighty like. That's a good example of the behavior we'll get from the union if AFA is voted in.
Would you go to court without a lawyer, let someone else decide your fate with you having no say in the outcome? You are a fool and I hope you see the light before it's too late. P.S. Do you have health, car, home owners insurance? If so why, according to your logic we should just let others and circumstances decide our fate, I guess I'm just a little more pro-active then you...
Patnofriend, you are a fool, What did the union do for us, it kept them from outsourcing our jobs to cheap Chinese labor with our SCOPE clauses, clauses and protection Delta flight attendants don't have. Oh and guess what, those same guys that tried to outsource at NWA are now heading Delta. Why do the pilots have a union? Why does management have contracts! Why would we not want one?
The fear of a union is much stronger then having one.... What is the length of a union term??? Oh thats right.... It is FOREVER...You can ALWAYS get a union...but if you have one...you can ONLY switch to another.. NWA F/A's have been married to a union forever...why dont we try being single for awhile?????
Great professional video stating the true facts to those who are confused.
It is reassuring to know that ALPA, the Delta pilots union, has almost the exact structure in their union. One of the differences I see is that our AFA government affairs department spends more time fighting for crew members rights. OSHA protections, fairness in our FAMLA hours, the study of air quality on our airplanes, the FAA fatigue study and so much more. APFA (AA),TWU(SWA),IAM (Continental)also strong f/a unions!!
I will be proud to be a Delta Air Lines Flight Attendant, with a union contract. We as flight attendants will have the potential to be the strongest work force in the Aviation industry.
Can you name one thing that AFA did to benefit the NWA flight attendants in the last 3 years?
Aren't you the one that made the motion to give away our right to strike in the last contract negotiations - which effectively removed all our leverage at the bargaining table? How did that help us? What did that get us?
What about the anti-gay, anti-woman hate videos you have been promoting through your website? What about your attacks on NWA flight attendants? How does that help anyone?
We will have the ability to make the changes all of us want in a contract from the most junior to the most senior, and we will have the opportunity to lock into stone, a course for our careers. Having a contract will also grant us the ability to plan our lives further ahead than one month at a time.
All of which I have stated above can be accomplished while we all work toward improving the bottom line of our company insuring the longevity of our company and our jobs.
I feel like I'm watching one of those late night infomercials. Some lame company you don't care about is trying to butt into your life and create hypothetical "problems" that only they can solve. (for a fee of course)... lame..
I am grateful and proud of the officers of AFA International and to our legal department as well as our Government affairs team.
I have personally met many of these people and can say with great confidence the people currently representing us and working behind the scenes have nothing but our best interests at heart.
Lastly, I will never understand how a group of our own peers, would fight so hard against the majority of us who want nothing more than to have something which will benefit all of us.
For myself I see this as me telling my coworker dont stand on that X because an anvil will drop on your head Of course they argue that in fact Im incorrect and then stands on the X only to be hit in the head with an anvil
Thank goodness the voice of reason is prevailing, and thank goodness for our union, and our collective membership, and for the people who represent them.
Many thanks to our union for making this video possible,
Why in the age of 24/7 jobs would any employee NOT want to have a union voice to help keep the employer honest? The ex NWA and current CEO of Delta has a past history of deceit and dishonesty. DO NOT be surprised if Delta threatens bankruptcy again if it does not win the upcoming election. ALWAYS remember Richard Anderson has a contract - why not the rest of the Delta employees?
we need a union to protect our jobs, otherwise we can give it up to outsourcing, and beleive me, thats first on the list! A union will give us legal representation and a binding agreement that must be upheld in court. we can still have a great relationship with management, we will just have legal rules to go by.
What we must recall - our airlines were in or near bankruptcy in past negotiations. That makes it tough to achieve the gains that we wanted. However, we are in an entirely new situation now. I believe in us - we (Delta and Northwest FAs) have the intelligence and determination to negotiate our own priorities through our union (AFA). A contract is legally binding, it cannot be arbitrarily changed all the time. Thank you AFA, for hanging in here with us no matter what it takes.
We must also recall that BEFORE all of the bankruptcies, Delta held the industry leading FA contract. That comparison was made in the yellow book contract negotiations at NWA (our last pre-concession agreement). NWA would not consider the Delta pay and benefits in those negotiations because, as they said, there is a cost to the company to having a union on the property (studies have shown the cost is administrative and not in the contract) and that the FAs had to pay for that in other areas.
Really, Want2KeepmyVoice? So you (and AFA) are saying the concessions are only $162 million per year and not $195 million?????
Is this like the "funny math" that AFA used in the last campaign when they got for Tracie McCallie (sp) to claim that the NWA flight attendants were earning $65,000 per year AFTER their contracts were decimated by AFA?
And what about AFA caving at US Airways and United BEFORE bankruptcy? They took cuts there WAY BEFORE Delta. So let's look at the whole picture
patnofriend, How can you ignore what I wrote? I said the valuation of the 195 mil. 195 mil was the target, but AFA found 33 mil improvements. That means Northwest undervalued the components of the 195 mil ask by 33 million. Quit grabbing bits and pieces from from other airlines like US Airways. Your question was what as AFA done at NW. A lot. It's apparent you don't want a contract that protects US DELTA jobs. The majority of us want that. I deserve to continue to be able to negotiate.
Do you care to quantify your claims? IF not, they are just more of the AFA fear and whisper campaign? What WERE the $33 million in improvements in valuation? What exactly did we get that wasn't a trade-off from TA 1 to TA 3?
You are the one grabbing bits and pieces if you refuse to look at the entire picture of AFA decimation of airline contracts.
It's apparent that YOU are spouting off without any supporting facts and that you have succumbed to the AFA fear campaign.
I can name 33 million things they do for us every year. During bankruptcy, our union, The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA's financial analysts and negotiators improved our position, per year, in our contract by $33,000,000.00. This improvement in the valuation of the 195 million the FA's were being asked to give in concessions is due solely to AFA-CWA. It was nearly 3 years after Delta FA's were forced into huge cuts that NW FA's took a pay cut. I made 36,000.00 more than my twin atDL
It's ironic and deceitful that Clare Burt doesn't mention all the misinformation that the AFA campaign has put out to try to scare the NWA flight attendants and misrepresent themselves to the Delta flight attendants.
Misinformation has been AFA's greatest tool in this campaign because they cannot claim a single achievement in their 3 years at NWA.
They have been dodging the truth in all of their videos.
I'm laughing at patnofriend and wondering if this very foolish individual is going to change their name when Pat Friend retires. hahahahah

I look forward to Our New Day but not the black and dark one promised us by the NWA Bankruptcy leadership Team.
I look forward to Our New Day a day created by us and for us, which is filled with light and confidence and a sense of calm.
I look forward to Our New Day, the day we can discard the old process of thought and move forward putting the past behind us and starting new.
