I've always been of the opinion that every really good hero needs a nemesis. The fact that Simm's Master had a streak of humour to him, albeit a twisted one, made him the perfect opponent for Tennant's Doctor.

Plus, it's always a relief to have a break from the really cliché, over the top evil bad guys.

The part where he throws the files in the air is still in my opinion the funniest thing ever in the history of television. After seeing that I actually went in an office meeting and did the same thing. My brothers and the other people in the meeting said to me have you lost your mind? And of course I could not resist giving them the thumbs up just like the Master did. I love John Simm.

Master's one of the only villains I've seen that's given me chills and made me tense up.

He's so ridiculous you just have to take him seriously. Most villains you see are either ultra-nefarious aka stereotypically villainous or ultra-stoic aka every evil general or military leader.

Master's just plain happy and screwball. You don't know what nutso thing he'll do next, but you know he'll do it with a smile.

He's like the Joker or Kefka from FF6.

John Simm played the Master better than anyone. We all know the Evil side of the Master and he showed it, but John also showed us a master that could have been more, and different had the Time Lords not driven him insane.

I hope that we have not seen the last of John Simm's vision of the Master.
