Even a baby intro to pilates mat class would have you crying in pain the next day...

I feel Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong based exercise has superior practical and longer term benefit. Qi Gong based exercise has over 5000 years of practice and has been developed to address not only every muscle system in the body but every organ and gland as well. so true. It takes so much strength to be stable when you are doing this and to remain center so you don't topple over. I remember me and my mum doing some of these and we were so jerky in the beginning.
Start off doing all hand support exercises with a thick Pilates mat. And focus on spreading your fingers wide apart to distribute weight evenly through the hands rather than all on the wrists. Actually all of these exercises are done much gentler, smoother, and ,for some, more challenging and rewarding with a thick mat.
You should make a fist and rest on your knuckles... if you know what I mean. My instructor has wrist problems and she does that. Mine also get sore as they are tiny for my 5'10 frame and it actually works.

The only thing about these exercises, is that my wrists really start hurting!! I'd love to be able to do these, though. They are very rewarding.
