I enjoyed this a bit, being a major John Woo fanatic. If anything, I'd suggest using the lenseflares of Adobe Premiere for muzzleflashes, which my brother used on his most recent project and they look pretty damn real. I like the use of Face/Off music an whatnot, but the majority of the shootout felt kinda stiff--like the guy with the D.Eagle should've been moving more. Nonetheless, I found this enjoyable. (check out my recent film 'Under Fire' which has a major action setpiece in the middle)
That shows you how many times I've seen that movie haha. You got the whole Hard Boiled thing going on at the beginning too. Like you said, it's a bit rough, but I can see that you already know how to edit. With more practice, it'll be better. Can't wait to see more stuff.
Put more SF, put there SF of moving clothes, of footsteps, etc.Generaly its not good idea to use original sound from camera unless you dont have good microphone. Dont shoot anything that is not supporting main core, the idea, the object, EVerything else is just wasting of time and it becomes boring to watch.
Trust me i know what iam talking about, i used to do same mystakes.
But iam learning now. In this your project, is crucial lighting. I doubt you used any 3 point lighting techniqe.
Ok, i noticed all SFX. My suggestion, dont do them if you dont know how. Check my afterlife video, how iam shooting from m16, its in adobe AE. It looks verry fake when you not soften edges of muzzle flash, and when you are not doing collor correction and blending mode of the muzzle flash effect. You need to fit muzzle flash to footage, composition.
Dont use muzzle flashes with smoke and sparks, because when camera moves, they are moving also.
Then i think there are too much shots of guns on table. And 3x detail on opening doors and guy standing there, thats not looking verry good.
Make just one, and make white frame shot, put that white shot between first detail on doors that are opening, then bankg, white frame shot, and second, more closeup to the main guy standing in doors. Thats lot of better then 3 shots of same thing.
I thought that there were some interesting shots and the image of the main character was badass. However I notice that while using airsoft guns is an obvious choice, try not to obsess over the use of them, everyone knows that they're fake. I got the impression that the movie was more about showing off the guns rather than presenting a story. I've noticed that my most recent short film (which has airsoft guns) looks more like I'm showing off than storytelling in certain areas. Good job though
Having made a "at my place" shoot-out film, I know the difficulties of making one. Having said that, I think the main thing that hurts this piece is the editing/pacing. Action must be as rapid-fire as a submachine gun in my eyes: 1-2-3-4-5-6, whereas here it always seems to be 1....2...3-4....5... etc. It drags on a bit.
As for the video quality and the FX quality, the main thing I'd suggest is do more color correction to blend the two together, which is actually not hard. Keep up the work!
Pretty good early attempt. Some shots are OK, many could have been a bit more epic. There was way too much fade in/fade out which ruined the flow. Like other said, VFX could have been better. I do special effects with a standard mini dv camera and it still looks great. If it's too dark, use some more lights or something.
Though not perfect, it's an excellent early attempt. Keep improving.
Why thank you, i have actually just recently this week splashed out on a new high definition camera so its a nice little upgrade and i look forward to attempting new things with it!
Yes do know that its visual fx lol, plus to be honest, its only like my second attempt! Still, things can only get better the more i do, thanks your nice comment anyhow!
Ahh thank you, personally, i find when i have tried to do the VFX with my standard mini dv camera, it doesn't look very good at all, there just two elements that don't mix. The quality of my camera after upload is very dark and grainy, so its hard to work with. But within a month or so im making the upgrade to HD so that will allow me to do alot more with VFX

Great ear! I did lift some of the sounds from the dvd as all the library type gunshots sound quite bad!

Work on sound effects, put more SF.

I like the first scene with glass.

Make it dynamically.

I'd also like to add that it kind of reminds me of a Quentin Tarantino film! Oh yeah, I meant to say "ominous" in my first comment. Sorry.

I really liked this short! I enjoyed the opening as well as the omnious music. Keep up the good work!

I can asure you that you can do better vfx than that, dosn't matter what camera you've got. I've got a normal SD camera like you.
You do realize that VFX is Visual Effects? Like muzzle flashes, explosions etc.
But as i said the vfx in this movie is ok :)
Otherwise you did a truly awesome movie. like it a lot. :)

I see this a lot, those who do good movies sucks at VFX work.
In this case the VFX was OK.
Good movie anyway. 4/5 stars from me.
