A great comeback. John squire, Ian Brown, the Stones Roses inspire my life whenever i listen to their songs for the past 20 yrs. One of the best Indie Manchester Band ever produced and still it will be forever. Forever "Stone Roses"
omg how fucking awesome are they?awesome days, screw today's shite, what a perfect total they are, perfect guitars, perfect bass, ian's creative and emblematic, and what can we say about reni?pure genious
@CaliBoy644 the best in the band, in my opinion, is Reni one of the greatest drummers in the history of pop music. They could be one of the best bands, what a pity they separated.
I've just realised that you could take a still pic from just about any part of this performance and it would sell millions as a poster. The word "iconic" doesn't even cover it. The band that made it possible for so many others ...
....Reni is considered by many to be the best drummer of his generation, and the "single most important drummer in UK indie circles" and according to former Hacienda General Manager Howard Jones, he "played the drums like Hendrix played the guitar."...
it was their choice , no one asked them to leave , & with reni walking just before the 2nd coming tour , john gave very little warning he was gonna split , just a phonecall. shame ,.....
"Suck a lemon, you're eyes don't water CS gas it's true." - The whole artwork and many songs (Bye Bye Badman) from the eponymous debut are based around the students riots in Paris 1968. I'm from Manchester and I struggled to get what he said initially.
Reni on fucking fire in this clip; What a fucking amazing drummer!
Oh yeah, sorry, the point being the students were sucking on lemons during the riot as police pelted CS gas canisters at them. It stopped their eyes from watering!
i've wathced this thousands of times and had a cd of it in the car but never listened on headphones for some reason?? holy shit its amazing, i would highly recommend it
the best thing they could do is play one last tour, a was very younge and didnt apreciate them then but now a love them, better than oasis, bring back the stone roses
GreenGobllin!!! how the fuck can ian brown nick liams style ya daft cunt..ian had his own remember mate ian has in the scene since the early 80's..this song was in 1989 and liam started his own in the broadwalk in 1992 so get ya head checked
me too lol, when i 1st heard this i had to get myself a wah peddle just so i could play this intro on guitar haha mine sounds no were nr as good though, also the bit at 3.39 sound fking arwsome
It's bizarre. The Wah Wah pedal was pretty much popularised by Hendrix in the 60's. It lost credibility when disco and funk abused it through the 70's.
Then in the late 1980's Squire pretty much made it sound like the coolest, funkiest, sound in the world.
True mate, Squire made it sound like it was a brand new sound, to a lot of people it was. I think he outgrew the Roses - Second Coming was Squire's album - I dont think the others were as into bluesy rock and guitar solos as he was!
This is on a 1964 Gretsch Country Gent guitar, through 2x Fender twin reverb 'silver face' amps -1975 -ish., slaved to a MesaBoogieMkIII (used as pre-amp). The lemon thing...seems like he picks one up before he says it...did people throw lemons on stage? Kinda makes sense with the album cover.

The lemons counter tear gas effects on the eyes. The song Bye Bye Badman is about 1968 Riots, were some man told the band about how they used lemons.
