  • my name is thomas i catch those all the time and i now its a banded water snake

  • with out a doubt, it is a "big ass" snake. Leave it alone.

  • Some kind of old watersnake, blotched or broadbanded.

  • that is NOT a moccasin---even I know that.

  • water snake i caught one to day

  • kill it

  • That is a member of the Genus Nerodia. It is not venomous. And by the way cotton mouth and water moccasin are the same snake, their scientific name is Agkistrodon piscivorous. You can take my word on it I am a herpetologist.

  • thats propily a water mocasian and it's defently a vemenus snake cause of the trangular head

  • no, it is not a venomous snake.

  • cottonmouth and water moccasin are the same thing and itsdepends where you live

  • cotton mouth and water moccasin are 2 different snakes

and i beleive thats a water moccasin

  • giant water snake..

  • ive rarly seen blotch water snakes that long but he does look very old

  • Its just a Nerodia erythrogaster. Just a harmless water snake.

  • There is not much retreating from him! He doesn't care that you are there. The rock is probably the coolest spot around. Definitely not poisonous but all creatures bite including me if I am aggravated so with that in mind you really have not that much to worry about. What is it about snakes that alarms people? Basically a lizard without feet. People are conditioned into fear over many years of brainwashing. Easy to rise above that nonsense.

  • I think you made a friend. He is curious about you and does like you somewhat. I don't know if you feel like touching or not but you could without a problem. He's very docile and old. Don't bother him too much. You know how the elderly get when you bother them.

  • I do believe its a blotched watersnake as it is dark(some are) and maybe it went away from you because it o maybe getting ready to shed. It is very dark and that could be your indicator..Im from Houston and have seen some huge blotched water snakes that were very dark and I know its not a cottenmouth.

  • maybe Nerodia erythrogaster transversa or blotched water snake.. its pretty dark thou.
