used to have the vinyl version of "the psychedelic guitar stylings of Boogaloo Joe Jones" found it in an op shop. Really thought I had found the roots of Acid Jazz. The liner notes said he didn't really make much of a living from music, worked at a car wash or something. Thanks for posting .
@slyme1711 .. That's got some great tunes on it! He worked as a vending machine engineer (alongside Billy Hawks originally I think) - and went back to that after Sweetback, and also went back to teaching in his church or something. Not 100% sure as there isn't much information about the good man...
I always argue that Jones is not underrated, but under-heard. Nobody who has actually listened to his music doubts the talent he had. Purdie and Grover Washington made this a very powerful ensemble. It's a shame he ended up mending gambling machines to make a living - thank goodness his music is appreciated once again.
Yes he certainly is.. Had the pleasure of him joining me and the Fantastics! on stage once - the whole thing took off.. Don't think I've ever grinned so much!

One of the many underrated guitar players & musicians in this world.
when some of these "new" guitar heroes turn down her overloaded effects,
a lot of them wouldn't sounds good like this!

Love this, thanks for posting! I got into Joe Jones when I bought an album of his at a yard sale back in the early 80s.
