@cunnidvd Weren't the indigenous people and the jesuits fighting the cause just as much "the church" as the pope and his representatives? Seems more to do with church hierarchy doing the dirty work for the empire building aims of spain and portugal. I saw the movie as a vindication that the true church is the grassroots.....which is how Christianity started in the first place.
