@jga665 Naw you need to listen, he says Uh--retha as in Aretha, he pronounces it quite sharply but he does not say Daretha, I heard no D in that. Ray knew Aretha's name and said it many times before this... It does not matter anyway...hear what ya want. LOL.
@jga665 I don't care what everybody else said, they're wrong too. As far as my ears are concerned, Ray didn't say nothin but ,"sista Aretha"; D is a consonant, so it wouldn't change the pronunciation of the A very much anyway, you heard "Duh", I think his pronunciation of the "Uh" is just a bit terse giving the enunciation a bit of a push normally associated with the precedent of a consonant. It don't matter though, there's far more to the vid than this small matter.
oh my gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooddddddddddddddddddd i m dead,i see the lights.....yess
that is passion and real music. where has the soul gone these days...lets just hope its never forgotten and the art of these inovators lives on for people to love
The historical significance of clip is important. Aretha is Queen because the would not have televised this Duke Ellington special unless Aretha was on the show. She was the most popular vocalist on the planet...so the sponsored lined up. She also proved that she can sing jazz, pop,r&b an gospel all in one show...Sarah, Peggy, and Roberta was one trick pony...Aretha showed the world she could do it all...!!!! All Hail the Queen!!!
Come on now, you are starting to sound like mostick. I think it would have been aired even without Aretha on there, there were so many people on the show. Please don't disrespect Sarah, Peggy, and Roberta, they are in no way one trick ponies.
@TheQueenAretha No disrespect. Sarah, Peggy and Roberta although excellent artists would not venture into gospel. Aretha is respected by musicians because she's not scared to tackle any genre including gospel. As far as the airing, sponsors want viewership period. Why else would a Duke Elington special feature a tune (Spirit in the Dark) penned by Aretha? All the other songs were Duke songs. Mentioning disrespect. Quincy said that the other women complained that Ree couldn't read music.
Still that doesn't give you the right to disrespect them. As imporant as Aretha is they show was about Duke and would have aired anyway. There were so many other big names there, and they were there for Duke Ellington a musical genius. This isn't Spirt In The Dark, it is a Duke Ellington song that was in similar arrangement of "Spirit in the Dark". There is a difference.
@TheQueenAretha First of all I have every right to disrespect who ever I please including you. But I have not disrespected them but stated a business fact. When these programs are aired they have to attract sponsorship to cover the budget. Since I've been in the business and speak from what I know as opposed to what you want me to believe, I rest my case. You have know proof that this program would have aired anyway...once again just so that you don't get it twisted...I do have the right.
All i'm saying is, don't dierespect those ladies to bring Aretha up, she doesn't need it. As much as i love Aretha, this tribute would have aired anyway because there were other big names on this Special.
If you can please download the song Aretha was singing in the back ground of the show I think the song was Dukes song'' Come Sunday''She didnt show her face but she was singing behind the curtain she sound so beautiful like a Angel from Hevean...Please Please..i remember this when i was in school im 56 now so its been a long time...
@yaskam Aretha like Ray have a great ear for music. At this time Aretha of course was very popular so the tribute would probably not garnered enough sponsored unless she showed up. Not sure how a Spirit in the Dark adaptation fit in with Duke Elington. But Aretha showed the world she is no one trick pony. She sang, jazz, blues, r&b and gospel on this show.
that's how it's done.
thanks a lot for posting,peace.

Who is Sister Daretha? Wasn't his mother named Aretha too? LOL
jga665 2 months ago
@jga665 He very clearly said Aretha. I'm sure he would not screw up her name given that was his mother's name.
