Can anyone tell me why the Rolex series exists? The ALMS actually embraces road car-relevant technology and still puts on great racing. And it's not under NA$CAR's thumb like Grand-am.

@FrodothePuppet It exists because there was a split in US sportscar racing when IMSA collapsed in the late 90s. ALMS and Grand-Am used IDENTICAL rules until the DP was introduced in 2003. The DP was designed to bring in the action-centric racefan that makes up the bulk of US motorsport fans(nobody likes NASCAR because of the cars) while also being the safest racecar ever built.

Obviously, they screwed up which is why the cars are now being heavily overhauled.
