I want to see she older shows released on dvd. I miss that traveling-with-the-odd-grandad-feeling. I loathe the new Tardis. It is like Willy Wonka and Chitty chitty bang bang dropped acid simultaineously at a rave.
I read that Willam Hartnell left the show because it was hard on him because of his age. I wonder how many more years he would have played the doctor.
@britfrenir There are actually two stories about why Hartnell left. The official line was he left due to failing health but there's also a rumor that he left because he didn't get along with the incoming producer and disliked the direction the new production staff was taking the series.
@jwg2372 I wonder if it was because of the Daleks Master Plan which was 12 episodes. I wonder if he did like that the Dalks kept coming back and the show was too science fiction and not enouph historal stories.
Doctor Who, for the first four doctors was an ever improving programme with a sound scientific basis, and a genuinely likeable character. Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee, Tom Baker, made the character, it was fantastic.
Tragic to see what it has become now. What a loss to the children of Britain.
Separated at birth: William Hartnell (in the Doctor costume) and Richard O'Brien (in Rocky Horror Picture Show costume). Writers of the Rocky Picture Show must have used the image of the first Doctor for Richard O'Brien's character image. Oh well!
that is so weird. i grew up loving the doctor who show. i have always loved the first five doctors....its just weird to find out that william hartnell had died the actual day that i was born. april 24th, 1975. now thats weird!!!!
@jimmyjambhere Among the Buddhists there's a belief that when you die you influence a person who is born at that time. You and Hartnell? Will you be the next Doctor???
Hartnell was a superb Dr, as were the next three; Troughton, Baker & Pertwee. They held together that superb statement Hartnell made in 1962. After the first four doctors it just became a pastiche, and remains so today. Although to be fair to Billie Piper, she makes a great assistant!!! Frankie Rage xxx :-)
It would have worked a lot better with shorter lengths of time between the changes in pictures and if you had played some music (or better William Hartnell quotes) over the slideshow instead of a bunch of random 10th Doctor quotes.
Thanks for this video. Loved Doctor Who. The 4th Doctor (Tom Baker) was the first Doctor I was not until I saw the previous Doctors from him on PBS years later that I enjoyed the others.
Bill Hartnell is the reason we are all enjoying the new series. He made it work, God bless him. He was a much darker Doc too, which was really interesting.
I still prefer the original Tardis control room and that amazing console.
yes. I prefer the original tardis console than the one currently being shown, and I agree with you about him being THE doctor, he got me hooked in the first place in 1967!!
