He says his beliefs are based on science, but according to science or any evolutionistic theory, he actually physically can't be correct. You get a godlike entity no matter where you turn. If evolution is 100% fact then there is no possible way a god like being doesn't exist somewhere in infinite space and time. If it's not in any way based in fact, then someone created us without evolution. Either way I het my godlike being mathematically and scientifically.
I'm not intimidated by science, theory, logic, or philosophy. These are the things that actually grounded me in the idea that God could exist. DNA as a code comforts my faith. The complexity of the eye comforts my faith. Infinite space and time plus evolution theory comforts my faith because it corners the equation into no way around a god.

Would he support the independent thinking of his kid or would he privately vilify him for being stupid? I pick the latter as likely. Dawkins asks us to look at the evidence and make up our own minds. @bakersteven3 It's not my proposition but Dawkins', so the burden of proof rests with him. So far he's got nothing. I don't know why Stalin acted the way he did. I personally think people don't kill for any other reason than that people kill. They might need to find some rationalization for it, religion, politics. It could be a vestigial survival instinct of killing off competitors for food and territory, but I doubt you could nail it down to a particular dogma. It's a tough question.

Dawkins and Harris are simply expressing opinions on the matter with no data, field work, or serious investigation into the matter. On the other hand, Atran has extensively researched the topic as is your best resource. Atran has no use for the pseudo-science of Dawkins & Harris, and has openly criticized them for their comic-book characterizations of Islam.

Couldn't Dawkins reason that all religions might have one source? Why reason that they're can't be a multitude of religions, because only one can be right? Maybe this is why Dawkins hasn't found God, because he hasn't recognized the one source, which is God, which is the basis of every religion.

Would he support the independent thinking of his kid or would he privately vilify him for being stupid? I pick the latter as likely. Dawkins asks us to look at the evidence and make up our own minds. I'm OK with that. But then he says that if you don't arrive at his opinion, you're deluded, a nice way of saying you're an idiot. So I doubt he'd give his own kid much room for independent thought.

@bakersteven3 It's not my proposition but Dawkins', so the burden of proof rests with him. So far he's got nothing. I don't know why Stalin acted the way he did. I personally think people don't kill for any other reason than that people kill. They might need to find some rationalization for it, religion, politics. It could be a vestigial survival instinct of killing off competitors for food and territory, but I doubt you could nail it down to a particular dogma. It's a tough question.

Dawkins and Harris are simply expressing opinions on the matter with no data, field work, or serious investigation into the matter. On the other hand, Atran has extensively researched the topic as is your best resource. Atran has no use for the pseudo-science of Dawkins & Harris, and has openly criticized them for their comic-book characterizations of Islam.

As an example, in his atrocious documentary, "The Enemy of Reason", he attacked homeopathy by listing only one meta-analyses (Lancet 2005) of the 5 that were done, picking the only one that showed homeopathy as placebo. The others were published in Lancet (1997), The British Medical Journal, The Journal of Clinical Epidemiol, and the European Journal of Clinical Pharmacol.

And even if they did, and it’s discovered that one religion gets something right, and another gets that same fact wrong, why believe it though you’ve proved one is wrong.

But the fact is, unfortunately for them, this whole language game we have been playing for the past decade is finally coming to an end. Religion is a dyeing concept and will be ending very soon. Whether we all die along with it or move on without it, it will still be gone very, very soon.

Trying to argue against reason, logic, and facts is truly a no-win situation.
