It's claimed that a high pressure natural gas line was leaking prior to the incident. A "wildfire" as you claim could not have happened in the area where the incident began. I used to live 1 block away from where the explosion occurred, I'm familiar with the terrain and surroundings.

The wind was blowing in the opposite direction of those houses. The houses being hit by the heat in the wind were all victim to spontaneous combustion at over 1200 degrees farenheit. The homes behind the gas pipe weren't effected until later, when the wind began to die down a bit.
