Probably because Star Wolf is significantly easier to defeat than the Aparoid. Why does it matter?

I'd like to add something to your strategy for the badge. When you reach the mech after the swarm after the third mothership, destroy the mini ships surrounding it and destroy the mech. That way, swarms of blue enemies will come at you in groups of 6, not to mention Krystal saying troops down below instead of slippy giving you a health ring. This helps a lot hen doing the mission on the gold level.

I don't play story mode a lot now and I kind of suck in GOLD level because I die a lot there.

Hey, when you are flying in the forest, shoot the first branch you see and it explodes, letting out a S-Flag.
