Hi guys! Does anyone has a good tip to devellop more power with the heel down technique? Since we are on youtube, with a video showing it would be even better :)
@Ltdave123 Ok, ok ok here it is: Remo Clear Powerstroke4 on the beater side and a Remo Powerstroke3 Renaissance with a 5" hole and a felt stripe for muffling, no additional muffling in the drum. Very loose tuning on the beater side and medium tight tuning on the front side.
Love the video! I have been playing for years and have never been quite able to apply the heel to toe technique. I mean I understand the concept, just can't seen to get it to my feet! My bass drum pedal is a little loose, should it be tighter? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
@wapsap101: if the pedal is too tight, you have to work to hard with your foot. Try it with a medium tension and practice slowly. check out Jojo Mayer's video on his foot technique.
id love to just like drive out into the desert... far FAAAAAR away and like.. play the drums where its soo loud and i dont have to like.. worry about sound.. just play for freee!!!! :D
I love your technique. I've tried to adopt the same way of thinking in that I don't think, I just let my foot do what it wants to do and it feels really great. Using heel-down in spots where you'd think it would make more sense to use your whole leg to me actually makes more sense..if that makes sense :)
Nope, it doesn't make it sound like shit, it just makes it sound different. You get a short, powerful thump that sounds almost like it went through a compressor. If you release instantly, you get a longer, deeper boom that works great if you need to fill things up. The short thump is nice if you want to keep things tight or make precise footwork audible =)
@boybawang9997: Remo clear Powerstroke4 on the beater side & Remo Renaissance Powerstroke3 on front with a 5" hole at the 5 a clock position and felt stripe across the head
Hey, that's not "ALL" the techniques out there. I saw heal up, heal down, and heal-toe techniques but didn't see any slide or swivel techniques... I demand my money back! :-P lol
These light cheap single chain pedals are the BEST ! All those Eliminators and Falcons and notwhat have these HEAVY footboards and chains... the pedal always feels stiff, whatever setting you put cause the footboard itself is just so damn heavy. It's like playing 7A sticks with iron gloves... If you want real control on your beater, it has to be heavier than the footboard... so that the resistance you wanna play with comes from the beater.... it's easily explainable by the basics of physic.
Personally, i took bonham's technique of toe-heel-toe and basically reversed it. So instead "Heel-toe-toe". The technique is performed simply with a walking motion and since i play heel-up its easy to come down for third note since my foot is already rebounded to its normal postion. I've tested it extensively and have even come up with 4 and 5 stroke techniques. If you're good you can even do away with need for a double pedal, which i never found to be necessary anyhow. :)
Hmm.. i dont know what tell to you.. becouse your right foot technic looks very strange, and rare, .. something like wrong played.. but anyway sound fine if works for you..ok.. but by some momentes its rare - bad.. I just wanna see and listen the Yamaha Hip Gig, its great drums set, made by Yamaha.
Hmm.. i dont know what tell to you.. becouse your right foot technic looks very strange, and rare, .. something like wrong played.. but anyway sound fine and if works for you ..ok.. but by some momentes its rare - bad.. You use your ankle for the most part. I'm a self-taught metal drummer and have conditioned myself to use the entire leg which results in fatigue, loss of speed and cramping when I'm playing 32nd notes. What's the best advice for conditioning the front calf and ankle muscles?
@earlturner2 I have the same problem as you. There are two things i do.
I have an old shitty pulse pedal that was just laying around. So i tightened up the tension ALL the way and whenever I am sitting down, watching tv or playing games, I just play heel down on it really fast. It helps.
my other technique is playing with ankle weights on. If you do that you can play heel up or heel down. Or even your whole leg A.K.A stomping the pedal. Whatever works for you is what you should do.
@loveanianimeme You actually don't have to have small feet for heel toe technique.. type Jared Falk Heel-Toe Bass Drum Technique into youtube and click on the first video. Foot size doesn't matter, once you understand exactly what heel toe is. =)
@loveanianimeme it's always good to know different techniques, but with bass drum.. You really should build up your own technique rather then 'learning' heel toe or the slide... as you progress your technique will come to you on its own. =)
i dont think that many people realize, its not the specific technique you use, or even the pedal, its doing what is comfortable and easy for you to get the desired sound. thats why we always see these videos with people doing a mix of things to get that sound.
@shankerman10 wrond....pearl demon drive....fuck axis and trick...if you know how to do heel toe very well.....you'll decimate any axis or trick player
nice i couldn't play with this technique...i think it's a little bit abnormal, not? well, whatever, your a good drummer and your foot technique is awesome! 5*
swivel foot is when you move your foot in a side motion back and forth its a technique used by alot of drummers because their legs dont get quite as tired when they play faster beats
its cool dude though its mostly just good for double bass ive seen some people play on a single bass kit if you wanna see a couple drummers using swivel in action check out Tim Yeung and George Kolias those men are beasts on their double bass
@pelzzy22106 You're an idiot! It's pretty easy to tell when it's going to rain. And he probably has his car right beside his kit, for a quick getaway lol
The kit is the Yamaha HipGig and has a 16" kick, To be able to hit the bass drum in the middle, the bass drum has to be higher, that's why the bass drum is way in the air.
i didnt see nething that actually needs a technique. when i play double bass patterns with one foot though i find my self leaning forward a little thats all.
ya i'm getting a kit with a 18" bass and i really need the powerstroke for that. but out of all your kits this is my favorite. it's small sizes but with an excellent tight sound. If i had the money I would buy this kit anyday
