I'm 21, so I wasn't even there yet when they were shooting Blackadder. I'm Polish, which makes the whole thing even more curious. What does a person like me have to do with Blackadder, one might ask. I'll tell you. This is friggin' awesome. I've watched all four series and I laughed my ass off. I love myself for learning English well enough to be able to watch such gems of the British culture. You, Brits, should be proud of Rowan, Stephen and my favourite, Hugh Laurie. They're just GREAT.

Yep it was, not unusual in those days btw and in american civil war times. This would be called a 'Drumhead court-martial' or a 'Kangaroo court'. 'Drumhead court-martial' name came from legal proceedings occuring on the battlefield, they would up-end a drumhead to use as a writing table.

Judgements were swift, punishments were severe and apeals denied.
