ok i get what every1 is sayin but i do and dont agree with tht theory about tht shinigami being light because if any1 reaad the manga at the end RYUK WAS GOIN ON THE JOURNEY WITH HIM to the shinigami king nd he would no if thts light

huh. i can see how people came to that conclusion. personally, though, i'm not convinced that that's the case. i think the punk shinigami's just another shinigami and he walked off without hearing the end of the story cos he couldn't wait to experience all the things Ryuk's mentioned. he seems young and impetous enough.

and I think Ryuk's only talking to Light like an old friend who lives only in his memory. people do that sometimes, and i guess shinigami aren't impervious to it as well.

The unamed shinigami is Light.

The way he walks, the way he throws the apple, he gave Ryuk an apple so he could have information like Light did, his red eyes, he has a similiar jacket of Light when he died,

Obviously that Shinigami is in fact Light Yagami. If you read the ending of the Death Note Manga, Light is forced to suffer the deaths of all of those victims he killed. Since he killed over 100,000 people, this gave him enough time and he decided to speak to the King of the Shinigami world so that he could exist and not vanish into nothingness. Obviously he is successful and becomes a Shinigami, but has to pay the price of losing him memory and humanity.

No he doesn't. He just says that the rockstar shimigami will find things in the human world that he'll never forget for the rest of his life. He then says "Isn't that right... Light?".

No, Light no longer exists at that point. I heard that the manga states that all humans go to nonexistence when they die. I'm not sure about that though.

Light was not that shimigami though, nor do I think he became one. Ryuk was simply looking up at the sky and remembering Light when he said that.

i've watched it subbed, and there is a really clear example that the shinigami with goggles is light. when he's finishing his story, he's saying: "you weren't god, you were just..."

then he notices that light has already left, responding with "gone already, huh?" now i'm sure you recall light saying he was the god of the new world, so that's a clear reference. light = shinigami with goggles

ok. You have to realize that ryuk was talking to light in his mind. Light had just said he was god or whatever/was trying to become a god. Ryuk, looking back at it all was talking to himself to light saying "You weren't god, you were just..." then he snapped out of it and realized that the shinigami wasnt there anymore. Nothing more to it, nothing less. Light died. Ryuk was being nostalgic, remembering lights ambitions.

that might be the case, but i tend to think otherwise. there has been no actual clarification, so it's ultimately left to the viewer to conclude what Light's fate was. i don't see it as a coincidence that the shinigami simply showed up and Ryuk began tellling him a story. i saw a purpose behind that, and through Ryuk's story, Light regained his memories.
