i need some light effects for my drive-in but i can't choose between 1 AMERICAN DJ REFLEX or 2 AMERICAN DJ TRI GEM LED MOONFLOWERS. what would you prefer?
There are 3 versions of the Reflex light. The Reflex LED (this one) is a very different light than the other two older versions, and does not have the FX switch, but has a program of LED patterns which the olders version could not do. The mic is reasonably sensitive, and the fixture reacts to sound really well :)
hey sleeper. i'm new to all this lighting stuff, but i need it for my mobile gigs. do i need some kind of dmx thing in order to run this? or can i just plug it in and get to work?
It's just plug and play. There is a DMX version as well, but even the DMX is plug and play if you do not have a DMX controller... it just defaults to internal auto play programs, and uses a mic to play to the beat.
For a college apartment? Yeah, with a little fog in the room, it would looks really cool! Wouldn't drain your power bill or produce any heat either :)
Yeah, back then it was deciding between the Vue III and the Reflex. The Vue III was definitely the right choose for the time between the two, but I knew I'd pick this up later some time :)
In ADJs videos, using 2 of these fixtures makes it look amazing! I too am waiting for the DMX version for master/slave of 2 before I decide to get them or not.
For anyone familiar with other LED pod based lights, I found that basing the light output on a per pod basis. Naturally a Revo 3 will be much brighter because it has 7 pods.
My local nightclub has a Reflex LED and while bright, it didn't quite feel like it was 250 watts because of the narrow beams of it.
I think it is really hard to compare LED lights with Halogen lights with real accuracy, because they really are a "different" kind of light. For example, I think that if all the LED's in both pods of the Reflex LED are "on", it is around the same brightness or brighter than a dual 250 Watt scanning fixture, but if it's only lighting 4-7 LEDs on a pattern, it is certainly a lot dimmer overall. With Halogen bulbs, you can't turn 1/2 or 3/4 of the bulb off...LED.
Alternatively, with LED, you can't refocus all the LED's brightness into a pattern of 4-7 LEDs. The best way I can judge, is to look at the individual beams, and compare it with like sized beams from a halogen fixture, and ignore any "extra wash" light emitted by the halogen fixture. -- by the way, fullspectrum, great videos on your page as well! :)

Thanks for this, is was very helpful. The comments at the end are great too for a new dj who is clueless about lighting.

Yeah, I like the effect of the two DMX versions linked together too. ...and the housing is a bit slicker looking on the DMX versions as well :)
