It depends on what you're after. I've tried both, the 49er is faster and lighter, but you don't get the same adrenalin rush once you're in the groove. The 5000 is also cheaper to buy and not as expensive to run (one design, no intentions to change the rig!) and doesn't break as easily. There's plenty more videos to watch. Taff

The 5k is a great boat to sail, but yes, it will be significantly different for both you and your crew:
Kite is bagged and not a spinnaker shoot, so needs a bit more thought.
Helming from the wire in this boat is BIG! Lots of practice is required and be prepared to get wet in the process, the rewards are great though
Lightweight crews usualy need intermediate bars on the racks, so if you're buying one, make sure you bear that in mind.
Get in touch, we'll see if we can arrange a demo sail.

@5000taff Seriously? Bag Kite?
I thought we'd made a break from that after the I420...
Why did they do that?
There's an L5k sitting in the dinghy park at our club that we have our eyes on.
Sounds like a bigger move than I'd anticipated tho.
I'm up for getting wet first few seasons.
I remember the first proper full on 3 sail reach in l4k. It was at once frightening and completely earth shatteringly brilliant.
I need more of that edgy thrill.
I've no doubt it's worth the dunking.
Stay in touch.

@5000taff Thanks for the advice.
Much appreciation for your time.

My crew and I are thinking about moving to a 5000 from an L4K.
I helm and I've some (not much) trapeze experience.
My crew is (obviously) confident.
We've had the 4000 for 3 seasons and we're getting pretty confident in it.
We're good up to about 20mph winds with full rack extension. (We're very lightweight-actually below the 4000 matrix for equalisation... :-)
Is the 5000 a major step change? I appreciate helming from the wire and all that that involves will be a big change for me...
