loving the 'gimp' masks LMAO - Pulp fiction much?! The original version of this song by TISM is really old, it came out not long after RIVER passed away - some may see it in bad taste - it's really up to the individual to decide - myself - I'm for freedom of expression =)
@Blusideup I guess you've never seen a dozen guys anally raping each other and sucking dick while listening to TISM clips on youtube?! It's a shame really, you'd be a great addition to our group!
It is actually titled "(He'll Never Be An) Ol' Man River".
To those (one being Flea from red Hot Chili Peppers) complaining about River Phoenix being mentioned in the song's verses: you seem to miss that they also add other drug-related rock star deaths- Bon Scott, Hendrix, Lynard Skynard and Mama Cass!!
I think it is a wonderful anti-drug song. AND they predicted Michael Jackson's drug fatality too!
@katholickunt it's not anti drug, it's anti celebrity worship. Half of Lynard Skynard died in a plane crash, it had nothing to do with drugs. TISM can't be anti drug anyway, at least not without being hypocritical, because they drink alcohol, which is a drug.

that is disgusting.. a lame attempt to get famous off someone else's death.. River Phoenix made a bad choice in life and that is how this stupid band is reminding us of it..
Agreed but it is hilarious, and it worked a charm.
This was seven years after it was first released.
Before this came out in 1995 they had a fair following ever since the mid 80s. It's not just them that are sick. There were obviously enough other people sick enough to buy it and send them into the charts.
@TheVendetta Rose there's a serious message behind this. Apparently, River came to Ron Hitler-Barassi in a dream and pleaded with Ron, Humphrey and the lads to get River's story out as a warning to the kids. So, they immediately went to work on "Greg! The stop sign" (if you watch closely, they act out River's message disguised as a war Haka, in the middle of the MCG...which is the initials of the drug that killed River...clever, huh?). Then they made this song.
@Zadan I know that story is 100% accurate as I made it up myself. I also know that Heroin, Cocaine and Diazepam is a harmless mix that might make an inexperienced user slightly dizzy, but nothing else. River's death was purely a career move to advance his status and put meaning into this song which TISM had spookily recorded years earlier when they were known as "The Hitler-Barassi Folk Jamboree" and mainly played Sherbet covers at local footy club awards nights and dog shows.
well those mask will fuck anyones carrer lol......my chimnee is boobytrapped HAAAA ha ha

If Australia has but one cultural export of significance, one which ironically was never exported, then it would be our glorius TISM. God bless.
Dilkingtonism 1 year ago 15
@Dilkingtonism You could also say that DAAS was a cultural significance. They were huge in the States.
daaskapital1 5 months ago
@Dilkingtonism I tried to export it to Northern Ireland but they could't understand what TISM were signing!

This is the nature of this band's songs though, they always shocked and attracted controversy no matter where they performed or appeared.

@DexterFishbourne MCG isn't the initials of the drug which killed river phoenix.
He died of a combination of Heroin, Cocaine and Diazepam. I'm not sure where you heard that story from about Tism, but it is completely untrue.
