The guard at the end of the level stands there and then disappears simply because you are not supposed to stay there and see it. You were supposed just to proceed to the next level and wonder what happened to Buddy :)
This is certainly more colorful and detailed then almost every other one I have seen-loads fast too. the 3DO was technically good, but didn't have a prayer because of the price point and there was also no copy protection
It's weird that I noticed this, but the keypad to the door of Lester's lab is different in this version. The 123 row and 789 row switched places. His hand motion is the same though.
I watched through the longplay of this version and I've to say I agree with some other comments I've seen. You can read on anotherworld.fr that Chahi wasn't really involved in this port and the sequel promoted after the 3DO ending. In the original version the fine details that push the game to that artistic memorable status have been lost here. The background music doesn't give you much break and the impactful ending lost the impact - it's like "did it end?" audio cues wise.
Man, the altered backgrounds really do clash with all the old-style foreground assets. The music in this version also kind of sucks. The bright and clean and curvy new backdrops and the switch from engaging melodic music to absent minded horn blowing really hurts the atmosphere. Honestly, I'd say the Sega CD port is this best version since it not only runs excellently but it also has the best music. It's always interesting to see a different version regardless.
I had no idea this version had improved graphics, i used to say when i played it on the Amiga " I wish they could do this game with better graphics" and it has and i had no idea, so now i'm not gunna watch all this cos dont want to ruin it for myself. It looks great.......
I have to say this is the best version of this game. I played pretty much every single one but the 3DO version is the one I always go back to when i want to play the game again.
You know something that stinks? Hardly anyone owns a Panasonic 3DO, and this port of Out of This World just happens to be the best because theres a secret game in it that every other version lacks, including the Windows XP version. The game can be accessed by entering the password BRGR. A word of caution, though: It might not work for you.
By the way, the ceiling crawlers are actually leeches.
looks very cool but it really doesnt capture the feeling of the amiga version.

This guy sure does bitch a lot about this version in the annotations, if you hate it so much i'd gladly take your copy. Thanks.

Hard to judge from the youtube quality, Is this better looking or otherwise better than the PC Windows version released recently?

yeah, it has some minor tweaks and background changes. This is honestly the best version of this game.

It's actually not the only version which the ceiling crawlers do not drop, the SNES version does that too.
