  • my life before & now thank for emotion, ex genesis peter & phil it's very very great winner star of world thank the guy

  • Can anyone hear Sting's voice in the backing vocals too?

  • Actually, it's Sting, Peter Gabriel, Helen Terry and Phil himself...all singing backup.

  • peter gabriel has bucketloads more charisma, talent stage presence etc. that phil collins...its just phil had more ambition to be in the mainstream or whatever while peter just concentrated on the music, not necessarily focusing on getting the "big time" ,pardon the pun,...just watch Gabriel's live DVD Growing Up Live and you'll know what i mean, truly breathtaking

  • wow hold on there fella

    u got it all backward

Phil has so much more talent

  • he only got the singing gig in Genesis because he sounded like Peter Gabriel, therefore his entire career is based on sounding like PG :D

  • you seem to be forgetting that he's also a very talented drummer. As for sounding like PG, Collins used WAY more reverb than gabriel, you can tell them apart right away solely on that.

  • they're both talented in their own ways... personally I love PG's voice more than phil's and in stage PG does much more

  • pointless this chaps - your not comparing like with like!

  • I always wondered what this song was really about. A prisoner of war dreaming about returning home? Guess Phil Collins only knows for sure!

  • You know Satchel334, I think your right, becuase Phill Colins mentions "I have been a prisoner all my life". So I think your right.

  • oh i love this. great. thanks for posting.

  • The live-version sounds more beautiful with the echo ^^ But this is great too.

  • i think his voice is great :)

  • hay mate his voice is some thing els you just dont know music.

  • COLLINS HAS A BAD CHARMA and a normal voice, he's a peter gabriel plagiator..xD

  • You must have a bad taste for music or your ears are too dirty!!!

  • i love this song. It's so true.

  • I'd say i wish we all were in the 80s right now,but then i wouldnt be able to type this message because there was no internet and definitely no youtube.

  • I know. Bummer.

  • One of the best songs of the 80s! Whenever I hear this, it inspires me to do anything I want, ANYTHING I WANT! Thanks for posting. The 80s rule! Those were the days. Nostalgia, nostalgia, and nostalgia!

  • THESE DRUMS ARE SICK!!!!!

  • ROLAND TR-808 Drum Machine with LIVE tom-tom, roto-tom and cymbal overlays!

  • Nothing against drum machines, but the thundering live drums on top are awesome! They're the best part of the song for me.

  • Very observant Tom!--Those are live Tom-Tom and Roto-Tom feels on top of that TR-808 Machine!--You know your stuff! (-:

  • Thank you. I play drums, and I know the difference.

  • is there a remake of this song?

  • There have been some sampled versions. Bone Thugs & Harmony did a version using the chorus...it even featured Phil in the video.

It's worth noting that the version here is not the orginal, but a remixed version. You can find the orginal on the album "No Jacket Required" from 1985.

  • I beleive that this version is the remake of this song. If you are refering to other artists, theres another good version done by an artist named Benjamin Wagner. Not as good as Phil Collins version but good anyways.

  • Bone thugs re-maid it with a sample of the song and with Phil Collins help on vocals a few years back. I thought it was garbage...

  • this song is fucking great!

  • I'm surprised this never became popular in clubs.

  • dude...how can you say the rest of these lyrics are lame? Phil Peter and Sting are all some of the greatest musicians mankind has ever known. Do your homework bro.

  • You never heard of Mozart?

  • and you Chopin? Verdi? they worth your attention.

  • Peter Gabriel and Sting on back-up vocals. Wow. Phil Collins is a lucky man.

  • dont phil collins seem like he would be such a dynomite guy to be friends with? iwould like to be his friend man,....

  • What frustrates me about this song is that it has a wild percussion riff, 2 good refrains -- I don't mind, take me home -- but the rest of the lyrics are pretty lame.

Thank you darknyytt for the 12" tip.

  • This song is not on this album!... what gives?...I just spent $15.00!!! What album is this VERSION on?

  • The album is called phil collins 12ers and u can get it only at amazon cause its a import.

  • On the 12"ers version. This is the 12" mix of the song.

  • Don't worry, you didn't waste 15 bucks, it is an awesome album

  • This is good, good stuff...

  • I can hear gabs and sting if I listen - but if you told me it was Robert Plant and Lemmy - I could hear them also

  • It is Robert Plant, Lemmy and Harmon Killebrew from the Minnesota Twins singing backup.

  • Funny you should say that - I can hear Harmon in there as it goes :-)

  • You're stupid.

  • I have paper-work to say that I not :-)

  • great work

  • This mix is awesome. I had never heard it before, I can definitely hear PG and Sting in the backgrounds. I would love to have a high quality version of this!

  • wow this is different compared to the version I've heard all of my life!

  • Yeah- this is called the GOOD version, lol.

  • yeeeeah I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. The original is the best ...this is terrible.

  • Oh well...

  • Yupp...The GOOD

  • Phil's own voice was used in the background vocals....as were Gabriel and Sting. Sting also sang backup on "Long, Long Way To Go" from "No Jacket Required" (1985).

  • too much verb to hear each voice clearly great song though.

  • It's not exactly a duet, tho.

  • Who gives a shit who you hear, greatest song Phil ever did that was never credited 10+

  • all things are relative mate

  • Even the statement "all things are relative"? Because if that is relative as well, then the value of that statement is stripped, rendering the determination of any one truth quite difficult, if not impossible. But of course, the defense of those statements, as well as this one, are themselves inconclusively true.

  • Yes - somebody has read a book (I think) IF is the middle word in life and if you sit on yer hand for 1/2 and hour - then have a ham-shank - it feels like somebody else is a-doing it!

  • LOL Great comeback.. hahahhahahhaaha.... :)

  • thang-yew-very-much

  • Seriously- wtf was that comeback all about? lol

  • GREAT song...but uh...THIS version was only found on Phil Collins-"12-ers :P And yes...both versions rock. :)

  • i cant hear peter gabriel

  • He's one of the backing singers, this video should really have Sting and Helen Terry's names added as well, they are singing in the background with Peter Gabriel.

  • I listen to Sting & The Police but I don't hear them :(

  • I know, but all three of them are backing Phil.

Sting's voice is more clear in one of the other songs on this album. 'Long Long Way To Go' also features Sting's vocals.

  • Yea, I heard it there. Phil, Peter & Sting have unique voices. Sometimes Peter looks like has same voice as Phil :D

  • I know, but all three of them are backing Phil.

Sting's voice is more clear in one of the other songs on this album. 'Long Long Way To Go' also features Sting's vocals.

  • God, what a song 10+ LOve LOVe LOVE IT Phil at his very best nothing like it

  • who ever made this they should get a gold medal

  • i love this song very much and im only 16 and im a phil collins fan

  • I love this song it completely fills me with this feeling of pure serenity.

when i listen to it, it makes me think of god and how where all just spirts and he's comming to take us home to heaven.

of course thats just my view if your strongly opposed to it just ignore it and enjoy being swept away by the music anyway.

  • awesome song!!

  • Best song ever!!!!

  • its not the best song ever its the greatest song ever

  • great song
